Cannot get over the queen was working two days ago…

I’m not a royalist by any means but I do feel sad with the queens passing, she seemed a lovely old lady and like many has been a constant all throughout my life…

But OMG I cannot get over than literally 48 hours ago she was still doing duties and standing shaking Liz’s hand looking though frail, smiley and every bit the part, just how?!

She really was incredible.

Really? Did no one see the massive bruise on her hand. Or the colour of her skin (apart from face which was caked in makeup and legs with tights on) she looked poorly

lollipoprainbow · 08/09/2022 22:14

I think if she hadn't been seen for a while it wouldn't have been such a shock.

SpudsIluv · 08/09/2022 22:14

Sounds like she died peacefully of old age....an acute illness she would have got to hospital.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 08/09/2022 22:15

Yep she looked very frail and the huge bruise on her hand was very prominent- likely from a cannula.

I'm a total anti royalist but she was as hard as nails. And what a way to go. Up and at it 2 days before then seemingly quick and painless death. Amazing. Go Queenie.

I think you have missed my point…

I’m not shocked that she was poorly and near the end of her life, on the contrary and even more astonishingly that despite this she put on her pearls, painted on her famous smile and posed for one more iconic handshake/appearance/picture.

Shortjanet · 08/09/2022 22:21

I dunno, I'm actually really sad to think that she was still having to work at 96 years old and within two days of death. I wouldn't want that for myself or any of my loved ones. Admirable on her part, but was it really a fair expectation?

Icecreamandapplepie · 08/09/2022 22:22

What a bloody legend.

Those last pictures of her, smiling sweetly and carrying out her duties as usual, despite being clearly ill with that giant bruise- like a metaphor for how she lived her life.

Dutiful and kind to the end.

Cleebope2 · 08/09/2022 22:25

Her bereavement hit her hard and hastened her passing. Cannot believe she was working right up to the last moment. God bless her. What a woman.

Yea, I imagine she felt absolutely awful.

Duty above everything.

You have to admire and respect that.

workiskillingme · 08/09/2022 22:26

Like my Nan. Not working but off out gallivanting and driving herself wherever she wanted right up until she had a stroke that took her very suddenly .
That's what she would have wanted and I bet the queen did as well. I truly think she chose her time

SemperIdem · 08/09/2022 22:27

People have strokes/heart attacks/aneurisms all the time, at far younger ages than the Queen, always suddenly.

That she was still working in her 90’s is the impressive thing, not that her death came suddenly.

A long life of duty, 15 PM’s, 12 US President’s and all the other changes she saw during her reign. A fascinating life really.

Neowwwm · 08/09/2022 22:27

I just can't fathom the images of her at Balmoral earlier this week, her still doing her duty looking as motivated and alert as ever and 48 hours later she is gone. I hope this is how she wanted it.

It all happened so fast, I thought she'd fully withdraw from service long before passing.

Always new this day would come but oddly also felt it was still a long way off.

picklemewalnuts · 08/09/2022 21:59

Totally agree. What dedication.

I hope I'm not shaking hands with people I care little for, in my last days.

I think HMQ cared very much.

Absolutely
I thought she looked extremely poorly but still had been dressed and made up and performed her duty with accomplished professionalism.

She has had a difficult two years, she must have been exhausted.

I'm gonna be telling my pathetic staff who can't turn up for a shift and they're young and healthy. Puts them to shame.

ffs 🙄

Imagine having to spend your penultimate full day on this earth with Boris Johnson Sad

She’s incredible but it makes me sad in a way to think how hard she worked, doing her duty above anything else right until the end. Poor woman didn’t just sit in a chair and rest did she! So amazing.

She may well have enjoyed it though. She chose to keep going.

Mummysharkargggggggg · 08/09/2022 22:31

She did it her way like she always said she would.
The last photo of her was lovely, yes she looked frail and bruised but she looked happy and in a nice way she looked like anyone's little old granny not putting on a show or brave face x

Wineat5isfine · 08/09/2022 22:32

She was just THE most amazing woman. Truly dedicated to her “life of service”.

There were whispers that she had cancer - that had taken hold fairly quickly. Who knows if they are true.

It is truly the end of an era - we will never know another monarch like her. Rip 👑

@Shortjanet I think it’s more an expectation that she had of herself than an expectation that others had of her! I don’t think anyone would have batted an eyelid had she decided to step down over the last few years and put her feet up, but that’s not who she was. She vowed to serve her country until the end and I think that fulfilling that responsibly to the best of her ability would have been hugely important to her.

A truly remarkable lady.

Classic ERII

Always bossing it.

And good on her!

Pixiedust1234 · 08/09/2022 22:33

This is something I have kept saying today "...but she looked fine with truss, standing up, smiling and with it!"

She really was an amazing woman.

I was talking with a colleague the other day about how some people seem to 'Wait' to die. They want to see a particular event or date and then its like they're happy to go then.

I wonder if she was waiting to make sure Bojo was gone. Then once she knew the PM was sorted, she could rest easy.

I suspect she wanted to appoint the new prime minister so the country wasn't left in a state of flux and uncertainty.
