Cannot get over the queen was working two days ago…

I’m not a royalist by any means but I do feel sad with the queens passing, she seemed a lovely old lady and like many has been a constant all throughout my life…

But OMG I cannot get over than literally 48 hours ago she was still doing duties and standing shaking Liz’s hand looking though frail, smiley and every bit the part, just how?!

She really was incredible.

I'm gonna be telling my pathetic staff who can't turn up for a shift and they're young and healthy. Puts them to shame.

Vast difference between your work being your life purpose and such an important role to a whole country compared to a shift to pay bills just so you can eat!

I think it was more than a job, by this point it was her whole life and she probably found it more odd not to do them. She will be missed.

Harry wasn't estranged from the Queen. He's reportedly estranged from his brother (according to tabloids that is but it's likely true), maybe he's estranged or on bad terms with his dad who knows. Not his grandmother. By all accounts they remained close and spoke often. Harry mentioned last year that the Queen knows how to use Zoom and that she used to do Zoom calls to watch Archie running around. The Queen attended Lili's birthday party so they were obviously not estranged.

None of them were there to say goodbye, were they, apart from maybe Charles?

I thought all her children were there and William. Harry was on his way but she died before he got there.
I actually think now the Queen has gone that will be it for Harry. Despite everything he did she was still there for him. Not so sure Charles or William feel quite the same.

On the programme about her life last night, it showed her making the speech about dedicating her life to the service of the Country and Commonwealth.
I thought that came after she had become Queen. No, it was when she became 21.
That was inspired.

I've never been at all interested in the royal family so I'm surprised at how sad I feel about the news of her passing.

Same here @Whatthe4. I've never been remotely interested in the monarchy but have been surprisingly hard hit by her death, it's really stirred something up in me 😢

Wombat100 · 09/09/2022 07:59

Incredible lady. RIP Queenie.

NanaNelly · 09/09/2022 08:06

No one else has ever Queened it like Her Majesty did ❤️

aaronbary · 09/09/2022 08:07

It's actually really upset me.
My nana loved the queen and also passed away aged 96 2 years ago.
My nana got bruises like that anytime she knocked her hands ..looked exactly the same

I was talking with a colleague the other day about how some people seem to 'Wait' to die. They want to see a particular event or date and then its like they're happy to go then.

I wonder if she was waiting to make sure Bojo was gone. Then once she knew the PM was sorted, she could rest easy.

I said the exact same thing yesterday

Marmite27 · 09/09/2022 08:16

My FIL passed away this time last year. When he was in hospital, just before he died he asked for his order book.

She was born into a role. She didn’t turn her back on it or walk away from it. She never disgraced the country with her behaviour. She worked diligently and I guess her only failing wax being unable to help her children make good decisions.

I’m very thankful she can rest in peace now and I hope Charles doesn’t fuck it all up.

Have some respect

mateysmum · 09/09/2022 08:23

We will never know what it cost her to see Boris out and Liz Truss in but I don't think she would want our pity. As somebody commented yesterday, she enjoyed being Queen and provided she could make it to the meeting it would never occur to her to shirk her duty no matter how ill she was.
She was mentally sharp and her sense of humour remained to the end. Not a bad way to go.
God bless and keep your majesty. No doubt you'll have some good chats.

upinaballoon · 09/09/2022 08:36

When she lost weight last year I thought she had developed diabetes and then possibly diabetic neuritis, but I had begun to wonder lately if there was more. I wonder if she's had some treatments/injections to get her through the days when she's appeared.
I had the same 'waiting' conversation with someone yesterday, but I think she held on ok for the jubilee, rather than for seeing Bojo go! After that, leaving it all quietly in one of her loved places seems very nice. B Palace was her working place and she adored Windsor but Balmoral or Sandringham were also loved by her.
I am sparing a thought for her dresser, Angela Kelly.
Absolutely great that she (HM) was on her feet and working two days before her death.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 09/09/2022 08:49

My 97 year old mum came round and made pancakes for us all on the Tuesday evening. She felt a bit tired so we took her home and she died in her sleep on Wednesday night. I am so glad The Queen had a swift and peaceful end, like my mum.

Inkanta · 09/09/2022 08:49

Yes that photo on Tuesday with out stretched frail hand - full of warmth and kindness ❤

MarshaBradyo · 09/09/2022 08:51

It is sad and feels very moving but in terms of ending a life it is quite something. It was not prolonged but working to the end

SallyWD · 09/09/2022 08:53

When I saw that photo I thought she looked incredibly frail and old (as you'd expect with a 96 year old). I felt she didn't have much time left but I had no expectation that she'd be gone in 2 days! I suspect it was something sudden like a stroke. Not a royalist either but so glad she got to see the Jubilee celebrations and do her duty to the end - because I think that's what she wanted.

That last photo of her is beautiful. What an incredible person and queen, to be so dutiful until the very end.

RIP.

Feel the same. Was chatting to a friend before the announcement and said it was the fact that she was a constant. But couldn't really put my finger on why I felt upset.
I respect her sense of duty and high standards of herself.
The political leadership of this country has modelled a moral cesspit.
Whereas we have lost a figurehead with values.

Really? Did no one see the massive bruise on her hand. Or the colour of her skin (apart from face which was caked in makeup and legs with tights on) she looked poorly

She looked dreadful in the pics with LT, I'm not sure what people are seeing other than a very, very frail elderly lady who has obviously being having some kind of treatment due to the big bruises on her hand.

Figgygal · 09/09/2022 08:56

Agree
She looked old and frail and the bruised hands were a shock but not looking like this was imminent
I keep wondering what happened for it to turn so quickly

I thought she might have decided to overshadow Truss's much talked about announcement about fuel prices. All the I'll tell you when I'm elected, I'll tell you next week, I'll tell you tomorrow. I can just imagine the Queen's big smile as she thought, "You're not getting the headlines today lady."

DappledThings · 09/09/2022 08:59

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 08/09/2022 21:52

Yes ,I agree.

There has been little hint or preparation for this.
It's out of the blue, with other royal deaths there has been a clear wind down! We get emotionally prepared.

This is very out of the blue.

She was 96, how the hell is that our of the blue?

I don't think she looked dreadful personally, sure she looked frail as would any 96 year old woman, but considering she was merely days from death, I think she looked absolutely wonderful.

Marmite17 · 09/09/2022 09:00

Lovely that she had the beautiful smiles in her later pics.
RIP. Amazing lady.

toomuchlaundry · 09/09/2022 09:05

I thought she looked very frail but not like she was imminently going to die.

I also assume that the Royal Family didn’t think it was that imminent either otherwise Edward and Andrew would have been there earlier. Looking at the timeline it appears they didn’t get there in time

Redqueenheart · 09/09/2022 09:11

I think her will got her through. She absolutely wanted to see off Johnson and be there for the new PM.

After that she probably thought that her job was done and that it was time.

Whatever you may think about the royal family she had incredible strength and dedication.
