That’s Queen consort, of course, but that idea is going to take a lot of getting used to.

I think she seems lovely and great fun. No problem with it whatsoever!

Anonymouseposter · 08/09/2022 20:10

The new Queen Consort has not been called Camilla Parker-Bowles for a long time. Who else would be referred to by the name of their Ex when they had been remarried for years.
She won the respect of the late Queen who expressly said that she would like her to be referred to as Queen Consort.
As the wife of the King that is her title.
I think both she and Charles will be very conscientious.
I don't see what will be so difficult to get used to, except that it initially feels a big change to talk about the KIng .

I really like her. I actually really like him as well.

I noticed how much more relaxed Charles seemed at the Platinum Jubilee. His affectionate demeanour with Louis and just his manner in general, happier, more content, less formal and rigid. I think he’s mellowed with age for the better.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 08/09/2022 20:12

Yes I think he has improved with age, I think he’ll make a good king

BadNomad · 08/09/2022 20:13

I am William's age, so I remember all the drama at the time. It seemed so clear, then, that Charles was bad and Diana was an angel. But life has happened since, and I now realise it was never that black and white. It is now clear that Charles did not have the upbringing or tools to be able to care for someone with such severe emotional needs and mental health problems as Diana had. Equally, Diana did not have the self-confidence or resilience to be able to cope with someone with Charles' background and detachment. They were toxic for each other.

Camilla was always the woman Charles was supposed to be with. It was society and "tradition" that kept them apart.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 08/09/2022 20:15

Can someone explain why she will be a consort and Kate will be queen ,how does that work? Philip was consort too ,I presumed because Queenie was queen when she married him.

NuNameNuMe · 08/09/2022 20:15

Not my cup of tea.

spinduffy · 08/09/2022 20:16

She seems lovely and very stable. I wish her well in her new role.

Not for any normal, well-balanced person, it ain't.

Quite. What's to get used to? They've been married for years.

I think so too. Being a grandfather suits him. He can be relaxed without the expectation and eyes on him. He seemed much more self conscious before. There were a couple of affectionate pictures between him and his mum when he was a much younger adult on the tv earlier. A lot of affection between them.

One would have thought MN would have had a London Bridge of its own. A separate forum for RIP monarchy threads and a single thread where Republicans of whatever stripe or thought could have lingered. But apparently not.

DeadButDelicious · 08/09/2022 20:17

I like her. She seems like she would be a good chuckle.

Charles is the King, Camilla as his wife is the Queen Consort. We've all had a long time to get used to the idea and it was the Queens wish that Camilla would be known as the Queen Consort. That's all there is to it really.

Antarcticant · 08/09/2022 20:17

If the monarchy must continue, Camilla is a 'least worst' option as Queen. She's one of the less objectionable royals, in my opinion.

SolarLanterns · 08/09/2022 20:18

I'd much prefer Camilla the queen with Charles being consort 😂She's smart and seems to have a great personality

Charlize43 · 08/09/2022 20:18

Just consort will do... although she's been consorting for some time.

SolarLanterns · 08/09/2022 20:19

And Camilla is much more suited to being a queen than Diana.

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 08/09/2022 20:20

I agree re Charles

I can imagine him and Camilla being very fun with the grandchildren in the palaces actually...

He's a very emotional man and intake that over the sheer arrogance of Andrew!

wizbit93 · 08/09/2022 20:22

Here's a pondering.....
What were we called during The Queen's reign? Were we Elizabethans or Windsorians or something else? What will we be under Charles' reign? I've googled and it said that under Charles I it was the Caroline Era.

Philip was Prince consort because he couldn’t be king consort because the monarchy is misogynistic and kings always outrank queens so Prince consort was required to ‘protect’ the queen.

all queens married to kings are queen consorts (as opposed to queens in their own right) but it’s not usually emphasised in this way. It’s perhaps because Camilla is keeping the Duchess title and not using the Queen title, as agreed when she married Charles due to the controversy of their relationship. So the use of the full queen consort title is I suspect, for clarity and as a sign of respect to QEII.

the consort bit just denotes the ‘by marriage’ relationship. Kate will also be a queen consort but will use the title queen.

Loppa80 · 08/09/2022 20:23

My Dsis met her when she was very poorly at a charity event and she said she was really really lovely. Everyone who met her liked her.

Beepbeepenergy · 08/09/2022 20:27

Camila isn’t going to be the queen

OttersMayHaveShiftedInTransit · 08/09/2022 20:30

MrsMontyD · 08/09/2022 20:08

@OttersMayHaveShiftedInTransit I'm older than you and I don't remember pre decimalisation coins in circulation. Shops and banks started taking them out of circulation on 15th February 1971, if you are 49 you weren't born until 1973. All decimalised coins had the Queen on.

There weren't many but one of the pre decimal coins was interchangeable with either five or ten pences (I can't remember which) and only went completely out of service when the new size 5p or 10p came in. Half pennies and pennies were still in use.

The old shilling was interchangeable with the 5p and went out of service in 1990 when the 5p was made smaller. The old two shilling piece was interchangeable with the 10p and went in 1993 when the 10p was reduced to match the scale of the 5p.

BreadInCaptivity · 08/09/2022 20:34

I like Camilla. Out of all the members of the RF, her and Anne are the ones I'd be happy to spend time with.

Anyway, regardless of how she's "styled" she is technically Queen (as the wife of the now King) now whether people like it or not.

Kellie45 · 08/09/2022 20:34

As Queen Consort Camilla is in the same position as Prince Philip. Married to the sovereign. No problem. She is not perfect so she suits this country well.
