Duvet covers of the 80’s

Just looking at my dog sleeping on his bed & I'm reminded of the ‘snatch’ duvet cover I had in the 80’s.
Which then made me remember the cartoon worzel gummidge & aunt sally one I had.
The pillowslip had worzel one side & aunt sally the other. Sadly I can’t find a pic of it, did anyone else have it?
I also had a Victoria Plum one with matching curtains as a small child.

Any other classics I’ve missed?

Also had the Snatch one, but the one I remember best is Fred Bassett - had the matching curtains, too

Seeing that has reminded me that my brother had the Fred Bassett one!

I had a Rainbow Brite one. Could have been early 90s

They sell for £££ on Ebay.

WonderingWanda · 07/09/2022 20:45

I also remember that some bedding and nighties were nylon and you could make lightening under the covers.

80s for me and I cannot remember the characters name on mine.
She was like a rag doll with a big floppy hat.
Anyone any ideas

Holly Hobby?

We were never allowed character bedding. Am so jealous of all of you who had a Rainbow Brite duvet cover 🌈🌟😭

This is DS's bed currently with my brother's bedding on it. Amazing how long these sets last and how well they wash etc.

I had this boring floral one.

My brother had the country diary set in his room. I had Holly Hobbie but wanted Strawberry Shortcake.

MrsMoastyToasty · 07/09/2022 20:49

I had these from the 70s.

@WonderingWanda yes, me & my sister used to have competitions in the dark who could make the most lightening.

I had Sarah Kay curtains and bedding but I really wanted my brothers ‘return of the Jedi’ duvet cover.

Great thread OP

My whole bedroom was Garfield. Bright orange Garfield duvet set, orange curtains with hundreds of Garfields on, wallpaper to match.

You can't beat a bit of 80s chic 😁🐱

I'm jealous.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 07/09/2022 20:51

I had a snatch one

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 07/09/2022 20:51

I had Victoria Plum and Rainbow Brite!

My sister had Care Bears and My Little Pony IIRC.

My older male cousin had the black and red stripy one upthread.

I remember in 1990 I had my bedroom redecorated, for some reason I absolutely HATED the idea that people would think I was 'girly'. I didn't like to admit I did ballet and liked Barbies and such, so I had my bedroom decorated in Dennis the Menace wallpaper Grin. My mum was mortified!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 07/09/2022 20:51

And a Coca Cola one

Yes I remember the upgrade to a continental quilt too. I got the quilt and cover for my birthday and was thrilled. I’ve just googled Brentford nylons which I was sure where my mum used to buy bedding but it closed in 1976. I was 3!

Me too! I got a continental quilt with a Pierrot cover as a birthday present, while the rest of the house was still on sheets and waffle blankets. I was really pleased, until my parents upgraded all the other beds later, and I felt like I'd wasted a birthday present!

Lovemusic33 · 07/09/2022 20:52

And I had postman Pat 😁

Do they?! I've got one! If anyone wants it, make me an offer 😄

I also had pink Snatch and still have a My Little Pony one. Oh and we had the candy stripes too!

I was always jealous of my brothers Star Wars one as Han Solo's face was on the pillow where my head would rest so I could have snogged him

Ha... my son has a similar duvet cover... I might go and lie down on it! 😋

MrsMoastyToasty · 07/09/2022 20:49

I had these from the 70s.

Us too!! We had the yellow set and the brown set. Sooo 1976.

It saw us right through into the mid 1980s when my sister and I got separate bedrooms and I got a double bed. My sister then went for pierrot , and I had the classic 80s grey duvet with arty splodges in primary colours. And bright yellow walls!

Bitterbean · 07/09/2022 20:57

@takingmytimeonmyride snap! Excuse crap picture but I'm lying on it in the dark while trying to get my dd to bed. It's hers now.

ShowOfHands · 07/09/2022 20:57

I still have several. I've a Wind in the Willows, Holly Hobbie, Victoria Plum, Paddington, as well as candy striped sheets and some candlewick.

I've added pictures.

I had the same one as the one Tony in Men Behaving Badly had on his. It was from M&S.

Ha my brother had this one too! I was so excited when I saw it on TV Grin

ShowOfHands · 07/09/2022 20:59

I've also spent a LOT of time tracking down my 80s wallpaper and finally have it. Photos 35yrs apart for evidence.

And we called it a continental quilt, not a duvet!

Ha ha I'd totally forgotten that.

That wind in the willows one is lovely.
