Duvet covers of the 80’s

Just looking at my dog sleeping on his bed & I'm reminded of the ‘snatch’ duvet cover I had in the 80’s.
Which then made me remember the cartoon worzel gummidge & aunt sally one I had.
The pillowslip had worzel one side & aunt sally the other. Sadly I can’t find a pic of it, did anyone else have it?
I also had a Victoria Plum one with matching curtains as a small child.

Any other classics I’ve missed?

Is that Angela Rippon as in THE Angela Rippon that wrote Victoria Plum??!

MollieTD · 07/09/2022 19:48

As soon as I clicked on the thread title I thought of my pink Snatch duvet! Fond memories of whole nights of sleep and not being woken every hour by a newborn…

I had a Rainbow Brite one. Could have been early 90s

Me too, god I had forgotten all about that.

And we called it a continental quilt, not a duvet!

In the late 70s, we had Sarah Kay (which I always saw a bit of 'lesser' Holly Hobby- we never got Holly Hobby!).

My sister, in the 80s had a whole Pierrot decked bedroom- duvet cover/curtain/ lampshades, the lot.

And yy- to the striped sheets GrinI preferred my beige candlewick bedspread Grinthough my room was extended in the early 80s, and was the 'guest room' (though we never had guests) and I had boring floral duvet covers.

Yes! It was a momentous day when I was upgraded from sheets, blankets and a candlewick bedspread to a continental quilt.

Strawberry Shortcake
Hollie Hobbie
Cinderella

I also had Victoria Plum, like many of us it seems!

pinkchampagne1 · 07/09/2022 19:54

I had the Pierrot duvet and curtains in the early 80s. I also had a pastel pink duvet with rainbows and clouds all over.
when we moved house in the late 80s I had a duvet and curtains in pink and grey stripes. I thought it was the coolest room ever!

LimeTreeGrove · 07/09/2022 19:54

We had a Wombles one and a Mcdonalds one with Ronald, Hamburglar and Co on it.

Livedandlearned · 07/09/2022 19:55

I had a pink Snatch the dog one and a blue and red stripe one. Diagonal stripes.

I had those sheets too with a homemade pink gingham duvet cover, no expensive character ones in my home.

Yes, I remember that day in my youth. It just appeared on the bed one day, and my pink nylon coverlet over sheets and blankets was no more. No exotic covers in my house - just dusky pink with flowers - wouldn't look out of place now, really.

DixiePeach · 07/09/2022 19:58

Yes I remember the upgrade to a continental quilt too. I got the quilt and cover for my birthday and was thrilled. I’ve just googled Brentford nylons which I was sure where my mum used to buy bedding but it closed in 1976. I was 3!

tellyiscrap · 07/09/2022 20:02

Wow .. continental quilt .. that brings back some memories .. mine was wrapped in a blanket till I got a striped cover lol

Danceswithkids · 07/09/2022 20:06

I had a beautiful circus/fairground duvet cover, I used to spend ages looking at all the little details when I was supposed to be sleeping (a child who had let go of a balloon, a man chasing a dog etc).

JenniferWooley · 07/09/2022 20:07

I shared a room with my brother until we moved when I was 7 & I got my own bedroom all kitted out in brand new Barbie stuff.

In the 90's I had a variety of quilted/frilly bedspreads with matching pillowshams like these

I had this "country diary of an Edwardian lady" with matching curtains if you please.

I had this in my bedroom too! My Mum went crazy for everything matching too.
I still have my blue 'Snatch' one as well 😂 it's lovely and soft - I put it on DD's bed for several years.
If that wasn't enough, when we cleared MIL's house after she moved into a care home, I came across some lovely vintage stripey flannelette sheets.

Also had Victoria Plum duvet and curtains! And does anyone remember Betsy Clarke?

unsync · 07/09/2022 20:15

I had Holly Hobbie bedding and Thelwell wallpaper.

Snozwanger · 07/09/2022 20:16

@Wazzzzzuuuuuuup I'm so nostalgic for those candy stripe pillow cases! We still had a couple knocking around for ages but they're gone now.
