Duvet covers of the 80’s

Just looking at my dog sleeping on his bed & I'm reminded of the ‘snatch’ duvet cover I had in the 80’s.
Which then made me remember the cartoon worzel gummidge & aunt sally one I had.
The pillowslip had worzel one side & aunt sally the other. Sadly I can’t find a pic of it, did anyone else have it?
I also had a Victoria Plum one with matching curtains as a small child.

Any other classics I’ve missed?

Ours was mainly white with pink blue and grey hippos I think

MrsMoastyToasty · 07/09/2022 20:49

I had these from the 70s.

@MrsMoastyToasty I too had that in the seventies 🤣

What lovely flashbacks to my own and some of my friends duvet covers. My mum kept all of ours and currently my fourteen year old has my old teddy bear one and my younger daughter has my postman Pat one. They are absolutely amazing quality. Have been washed and dried a gazillion times by my mother and me. The girls absolutely love that they used to me mine! I haven't bought a duvet cover ever for my kids 😂

When I was around ten in the early 80's, I had a Sarah Kaye matching duvet cover and pillow case - absolutely loved it.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 07/09/2022 21:54

my continental quilt was a birthday present, blue flowery cover which i kept for years!
i think dm actually bought it back from Germany for me

Sswhinesthebest · 07/09/2022 21:58

Don’t know where that earlier quote appeared from. Didn’t realise I’d quoted.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/09/2022 21:59

Forever friends, Country companions and a noddy one. Are the ones we had. Plus some adult Ives with flowers on.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 07/09/2022 22:01

@Offredismysister I had that Worzel Gummidge duvet set! I have no idea why, I really hated that programme. Worzel freaked me out, I would only ever sleep with the Aunt Sally side upwards.

NinHuguenAndTheHuguenNotes · 07/09/2022 22:02

My mum bought Holly Hobbie material and we made two continental quilt covers. Mum made my sister's and I made my own. I was 12 and going through a sewing phase!

PatsyJStone · 07/09/2022 22:06

I still have a 70s Magic Roundabout one, can't bring myself to get rid of it.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 07/09/2022 22:07

maddiemookins16mum · 07/09/2022 21:13

I had this one (and the lampshade and the round cushion). M and S.

I had this one, my mum didn't like character bedding!

Toddlerteaplease · 07/09/2022 22:12

We never had matching sets on. My mum would just put anything on. As a fully fledged adult, it really upsets me that my tempur pillow does not fit in all of my pillowcases, so I have to have one non matching pillow. 😬

Circa 1989,sun and moon designs were everywhere. I loved them and had a duvet corner in a sun and moon print.

I think I did as well, now you've reminded me. I loved moon and stars pints.

ILV · 07/09/2022 21:25

@Bitterbean @takingmytimeonmyride my 9yo is also currently in bed with this design on their pillowcase!

Ahhh it makes me so happy all these Paddington duvet covers still bring used.

Carlycat · 07/09/2022 22:28

I had the Snatch duvet set. It was mainly blue and white as I remember? Plus a Rupert Bear one I can't part with

Leafy3 · 07/09/2022 22:29

@MrsMontyD yes, I am thinking of the bathroom company! Lol

So 80s were before my time but I had frilly lacy bedding i think in the early 90s and then went to town on sun, moon and stars in late 90s...Had no idea the celestial pattern had been big 10 years before! Have been feeling nostalgic for it lately Grin

Were forever friends around in the 80s too? I used to love them in the 90s

LokiDokiArtichoki · 07/09/2022 22:40

I had a Moondreamers duvet set. My sister had rainbow brite.

99redballoonsgobyy · 07/09/2022 22:40

@Lovemusic33 this seems very familiar I'm sure these were the curtains I had too. I definitely had something with this design on, what is this called is it Holly hobby??

My best friend had a playboy bunny one on her bed. I don't think her mum can have known what it was!

I had the playboy bunny duvet!
When I first started staying for weekends at my dad's when he got married I remember his wife giving me a catalogue and telling me to pick any duvet I liked... so I picked the black one with the bunny on it! 😁
I remember them trying to encourage me to pick a different one but I was dead set on it.
Rather than say no, or explain why I shouldn't have it, they just let me!
I had Care Bears wallpaper and a playboy bunny duvet!

Pierrot. Had curtains boarder and bean bag, as well as duvet. Loved it made my room feel so girly. X

99redballoonsgobyy · 07/09/2022 23:09

@woodhill I need to see a picture of the sanderson hippo bedding do you happen to have one? I've had a Google but cannot find picture. I think I may remember it but cannot quite picture it in my mind.

CalmConfident · 07/09/2022 23:11

Another Pierrot bed set owner here! My brother had a fab he-man set and matching wallpaper.

I still wish parents had kept some lovely bedding we had as younger kids - it was all different greens - a landscape with hills and little roads on, plus the occasional car & cottage. No idea what make it was - never managed to see it again.

VenusClapTrap · 07/09/2022 23:11

Yellow and brown floral until my 11th birthday, when I was finally allowed to get with the eighties and chose a bright red duvet with white hearts all over it. With matching wallpaper. I loved it sooo much. Filled my room with red accessories to match. It was all very… red.

Parents had the more restrained Country Diary set.

Sorry, that was supposed to be in reply to @Caroffee !

I'd give my right arm for both of those!

FernsAndFlowers · 07/09/2022 23:16

I’ve got this one from circa 1983 - about to pass it to 9yo DD!
