Duvet covers of the 80’s

Just looking at my dog sleeping on his bed & I'm reminded of the ‘snatch’ duvet cover I had in the 80’s.
Which then made me remember the cartoon worzel gummidge & aunt sally one I had.
The pillowslip had worzel one side & aunt sally the other. Sadly I can’t find a pic of it, did anyone else have it?
I also had a Victoria Plum one with matching curtains as a small child.

Any other classics I’ve missed?

We didn't get 'continental' quilts until the late 90s. My mother distrusted foreign ways amd was loathe to give up the candlewick bedspreads

@Lovemusic33 this seems very familiar I'm sure these were the curtains I had too. I definitely had something with this design on, what is this called is it Holly hobby??

Isn’t this Victoria Plum? I think I had wallpaper like this in the 80s and was led to believe it was V.Plum but can’t be sure (only have mums word for it lol) - this thread is nostalgia deluxe!

@ThistleSifter yes design was definitely Holly hobbie.

I had this "country diary of an Edwardian lady" with matching curtains if you please.

I had that one, too.
If I visit my mum, it still appears on my bed 😄

blackheartsgirl · 08/09/2022 01:08

as soon as I opened this I knew it would say snatch duvet cover.

I had a shitty brown one and a pink one with flowers which I still have. The quality is brilliant, it must be forty years old now and it’s still perfect, my dd2 uses it

I was never allowed to have fancy duvet covers i was so envious of my friends who did

Interesting! I’ll be enquiring with my mother why I was deceived 😂 (knowing her she probably didn’t even realise) thanks for confirming! @99redballoonsgobyy

Yours would have matched my wallpaper much better than my playboy bunny duvet! 😁

Yes I remember the upgrade to a continental quilt too. I got the quilt and cover for my birthday and was thrilled. I’ve just googled Brentford nylons which I was sure where my mum used to buy bedding but it closed in 1976. I was 3!

Brentford Nylons definitely existed in my city in the early 90s because I remember my nan taking me and my baby sister there to buy new bedding for me when she had my bedroom decorated. My bedding at her house was peach and grey, and I had the Athena poster of the man with the baby on my wall and Marti Pellow on the ceiling above my bed so I could gaze at him lovingly from my bed.

I had this Sarah Kay set when I was a child in the 80s. I loved that duvet cover 💕

I had that one too, just remembered!

99redballoonsgobyy · 08/09/2022 10:23

@ThistleSifter to be fair to your mum they all did look pretty similar. 🤣
loving this thread, very nostalgic bringing back loads of memories. someone mentioned toys too and the big yellow tea pot I had one of those too! and the my little pony show stables and grooming parlour. 🤣 wish I'd have kept them would have been worth a fortune now.

I want this thread to go in classics- it's so cosy and nostalgic

crochetmonkey74 · 08/09/2022 11:06

It really evokes for me the feeling of home and clean laundry, lamps on- everything a bit mismatched but well looked after- now you only ever see Showhome type decoration- and everything seems so curated not the normal hodge podge of a real home that is lived in and items that are loved for years

Our house is definitely more the mismatch that you describe! 🤣

I was, and still am, a massive snoopy fan. I still have somewhere a snoopy nightie that my mum got me as a kid, and then it bizarrely stretched in the wash, so I can still wear it now!

VanillaImpulse · 08/09/2022 13:07

My auntie (who was about 16 at the time when I used to go to my nans to stay) had an Ann Summers duvet set complete with sexual positions on it!
I was educated at an early age Grin
Would love to see a pic of it now!

Hi @crochetmonkey74 I think you need to ‘report’ it and ask MN to do that. I’ve only ever done this once before and years ago but think it’s still the same.
