Which UK city do you think will host Eurovision?

In our house we are guessing either Manchester, because it has the Media City area, and has a reputation for being very vibrant and up and coming, or Cardiff because the waterfront would provide a beautiful backdrop and the Millenium center is right on the bay.

Why should it be anywhere else? And “not having had a turn yet” isn’t a good enough excuse.

Because there are fabulous venues across the UK (though I'm sad about Cardiff not having a big enough one) and it should go to the most suitable venue. We don't deserve it more in England than anywhere else in the UK.

Glasgow. And if so, I will be there!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/07/2022 13:51

I'll unstrike Cardiff off the list. Grin

I'm sure when it was first being discussed I saw something saying large stadiums aren't considered as they are too big, and more intimate (can you call 10k plus intimate?!) venues are preferred.

Scepticalwotsits · 25/07/2022 13:56

RoseAndRose · 25/07/2022 13:22

What size venue is needed?

When UK has hosted before, the venues have been:

  1. London, Royal Festival Hall
  2. London, BBC TV Centre
  3. London, Royal Albert Hall
  4. Edinburgh, Usher Hall
  5. Brighton, Brighton Dome
  6. London, Wembley Conference Centre
  7. Harrogate, Harrogate International Centre
  8. Birmingham, National Indoor Arena

I think it should be in Wales or NI

I think it will end up at the MEN - or whatever it’s called these days, everything seems to head to Manchester now.

I think it would be nice to have it back in Birmingham to carry on events from the commonwealth but I doubt it will.

personally I think it should go to the odyssey in Belfast

BestIsWest · 25/07/2022 13:57

The Principality Stadium are keen to host www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-61871291

Manchester Arena is the largest arena in the UK

Ilikecheeseontoast · 25/07/2022 13:58

Liverpool maybe?

Indiana2021 · 25/07/2022 14:00

Glasgow would be ideal. OVO hydro is surrounded by hotels and the BBC Scotland HQ. Also right next to SECC building which is a huge multi use space. Very short hop to the City Centre with even more hotels and direct access to the motorway for the Airport. Glasgow's teeny tiny as a City Centre, but is bursting with amenities and you can get across and around it really quickly.
That's my pitch done 😉

CMOTDibbler · 25/07/2022 14:01

I think at relatively short notice, the NEC in Birmingham is the best bet as it has so many hotels on site, great infrastructure links and a lot of experience of big events. I've been there all weekend as a Commonwealth Games volunteer and though I've been there a lot in the past its only walking round randomly you realise just how big it is, and the flexibility of the spaces

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/07/2022 14:02

It hadn't really occurred to me as to how tight the timescales are. The conclusion of the bid is in the autumn and there isn't long between Autumn and Eurovision.

I did not know Leeds had an arena. When did that happen!!

I expect Manchester or Glasgow.
I think Newcastle would also be brilliant.
Birmingham had it last time.
London would just get cries of everything being London centred.

I'll put my money on Manchester.

KnittingNeedles · 25/07/2022 14:06

I am crossing EVERYTHING for Glasgow. We have the track record of hosting similar big events like the Commonwealth Games and Cop26. We have a massive concert venue next door to a big conference venue. Loads of hotel accommodation. I will definitely be volunteering if we get it.

But above all, the SNP will have a hairy fit at all these people waving their Union flags and supporting the UK. They will hate it. 😁

PeterPomegranate · 25/07/2022 14:07

I’m sure it won’t be London and I say that with sadness as a Londoner.

I reckon Manchester.

I’d like to see NI, Wales or Scotland host though.

ThreeRingCircus · 25/07/2022 14:08

I expect it'll be Manchester or Glasgow although out of the two I'd prefer it to be Manchester (since Sturgeon wants out of the UK.)

I'm hoping it's Cardiff though.... Wales is due a turn!

marcopront · 25/07/2022 14:09

Can I just point out the NEC is in Solihull not Birmingham.

Frazzled2207 · 25/07/2022 14:09

bubblescoop · 25/07/2022 13:45

It should be England and I suspect either London or Manchester will get it.

Why?

Charmer7 · 25/07/2022 14:10

@OhYouBadBadKitten they'd easily just shut the principality stadium roof though to count as indoors. I think it must be in with a chance.
I reckon it must be likely to be the o2 in London though. Very dull and obvious!

No, you can't, because it calls itself the NEC Birmingham.

But you many go and have a moan in Pedants' Corner Smile

gold22 · 25/07/2022 14:15

Money is on Manchester🤞🏻

CMOTDibbler · 25/07/2022 14:16

@marcopront actually its not Solihull either, it's address is Marston Green, parts of the site arein Bickenhill. If you want to be picky

Marston Green and Bickenhill are in Solihull.

TidyDancer · 25/07/2022 14:23

I'm hoping for London because I'd love to go and that's easiest for me to get to! Would be great! Second choice Manchester.
