Which UK city do you think will host Eurovision?

In our house we are guessing either Manchester, because it has the Media City area, and has a reputation for being very vibrant and up and coming, or Cardiff because the waterfront would provide a beautiful backdrop and the Millenium center is right on the bay.

I hope it is Birmingham

covetingthepreciousthings · 27/09/2022 07:26

Update expected today !
Unsure if that means it'll just be narrowed down further or whether the city will be announced..

I imagine the closing of Doncaster airport won’t have helped Sheffields chances

KassandraOfSparta · 27/09/2022 08:41

COME ON GLASGOW!!

So excited.

Its being narrowed down to two today.

I'd be very very shocked if Glasgow isn't one of the two.

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 27/09/2022 14:37

Narrowed down to Liverpool or Glasgow...eeek Liverpool is v doable for me if I somehow managed to get tickets!

KassandraOfSparta · 27/09/2022 14:40

Surprised Manchester isn’t there but delighted Glasgow is.

Iggii · 27/09/2022 14:41

I wish they'd set the dates!

LoveLarry · 27/09/2022 14:43

It just HAS to be Glasgow

balalake · 27/09/2022 14:56

Which of the two cities has more Ukrainians given a home over the last few months. Perhaps that should be the one chosen.

RedToothBrush · 27/09/2022 15:40

My suspicion over the final two comes down to the availability of the venue.

Glasgow has events scheduled for the venue BUT crucially has an alternative venue which they can be transfered to.

Liverpool was the only venue with a clear 6 weeks prior to the event.

All the others had events which would have been problematic.

At this point, I'd have to say Glasgow looks to have it in the bag. It's a much bigger venue and it's convenient for the BBC.

I am still hoping for Liverpool but not optimistic. I hope I'm wrong, because Liverpool would be a dream for me to do as I wouldn't need to think about accommodation.

SwedishEdith · 27/09/2022 16:34

Liverpool's twin city is Odessa. Got to be Liverpool.

BlueThursday · 28/09/2022 21:20

True; Glasgow’s twin is Rostov on Don in Russia

MabelMoo23 · 29/09/2022 22:01

I wouldn’t worry about either venue having space or not. If it makes economic sense to them - they will shift the clients already booked and make it worth it their while

RedToothBrush · 07/10/2022 12:07

Final announcement tonight. Graham Norton on the One Show.

Apparently.

RedToothBrush · 07/10/2022 12:10

Betting odds on it being Glasgow are still narrowing so hard to see it will be Liverpool at this point.

Same! Venue schmenue at this point, just tell us the bloody dates!!

MistressIggi · 07/10/2022 13:35

Will they announce the dates at the same time, I wonder?

FamilyTreeBuilder · 07/10/2022 13:39

It’s always around my birthday so I’m thinking likely date 13 May.

RedToothBrush · 07/10/2022 13:43

It won't be either of the bank holiday weekends (bbc staff will have a shit fit).

So it kind of limits it. Hotels will be booked out by 7.15pm tonight I guess.

Wichit · 07/10/2022 15:29

Premier Inn and Travelodge already have no availability for 19-21may.

RedToothBrush · 07/10/2022 15:49

Looking like Glasgow 19th - 21st.

Hotel prices have gone NUTS.

Over £800 for two nights for a couple sharing in a 3* with shared bathroom!

RedToothBrush · 07/10/2022 15:53

From Twitter:

Ok I think I’ve solved where is going to host #Eurovision next year.

It’s going to be #Glasgow, because:

Olly Murs just announced a tour date for Liverpool on 6th May. That wouldn’t be enough time to get the Arena ready for #Eurovision.

That’s just a dead giveaway to me

FamilyTreeBuilder · 07/10/2022 16:33

Oh I SO hope it's Glasgow. Will be volunteering if they are looking for people.

SwedishEdith · 07/10/2022 16:34

Congratulations to Glasgow (assuming it is them). Think it'll be fabulous there as well and it is a very similar city to Liverpool. But I'm quite definitely disappointed it hasn't come to Liverpool or Manchester because I could have gone. 😥
