Thanks @Roussette. Bone doesn’t know who Geidt is? Ffs.

BBC BREAKING:
Lord Geidt quit over ministerial code 'affront'
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-61827319

BBC have published the letter in full with a short report:

Boris Johnson's former ethics adviser Lord Geidt says he quit after being placed in an “impossible and odious” position over a plan to risk breaking the ministerial code.
In his resignation letter, he said it would "make a mockery" of the rules, adding "I can have no part in this".
He told the PM he had considered resigning over Partygate.
But it was a request for advice on a trade issue that had left him with no choice but to quit.

Replying to the letter, Mr Johnson thanked Lord Geidt for his service but said he was surprised by his decision to resign.
The prime minister said he had sought Lord Geidt's advice about a potential future decision related to the Trade Remedies Authorities.
He said he wanted to seek advice on "protecting a crucial industry, which is protected in other European countries and would suffer material harm if we do not continue to apply such tariffs".
He added the proposal would be in line with "domestic law but might be seen to conflict with our obligations under the WTO [World Trade Organisation].
By seeking Lord Geidt's advice, Mr Johnson said he wanted to "ensure that we acted properly".

Hmm

By seeking Lord Geidt's advice, Mr Johnson said he wanted to "ensure that we acted properly".

He’s got his answer then.

Truth twisters. It's all to do with donors it appears. I know who I trust and it ain't Johnson

Cornettoninja · 16/06/2022 12:34

What was the breech that broke the Camels back? Am I being dumb?

Why does he have to be frustrated? Surely he could just publish his own letter? Jesse Norman managed it

have to admit, I thought the same. Is it possible he’s bound by some sort of confidentially clause?

DuncinToffee · 16/06/2022 12:34

He probably wanted to ensure that he could get away with breaking the code, again.

A potential breach to WTO rules it seems.

It looks to me like the breach of WTO rules just compounded everything that had gone on before (missing messages re payment for flat refurb, who paid for Mystique holiday as well as Partygate).

I'm not surprised he resigned. 10 years as private secretary to the Queen but career ending in service to a charlatan.

Notonthestairs · 16/06/2022 12:56

So Chinese steel bad, Indian steel good? Is that the message?

Who donates to the Conservatives?

Cornettoninja · 16/06/2022 13:05

Is it the reallocation of the Russian and Belarusian quotas that is the problem? I’m struggling to get a handle on this one (obviously Grin - we need a Reddit style explain-it-like-I’m-five board!)

Did that Rwanda thread get zapped, the one with the poster called freerangechildren on it? I can't find it, which is a good thing!

Interestingly, said poster seems to have disappeared subsequent to a zapped post with a MN message saying they were looking behind the scenes. Would be nice to think they've discovered where the bots are posting from.

Roussette · 16/06/2022 16:26

I do hope so @AmaryIlis

I had to stop responding to them because of their blatant made up crap

InMySpareTime · 16/06/2022 16:38

Can we have a new thread please, this one's nearly full?

Surely it's up to Suella to advise on legalities? - not the Independent Advisor on Ethics and Standards Confused

Or is she not up to the job? Wink

She's. It up to the job.

Purely because she won't want to tell Johnson the truth and not to do it.

Cornettoninja · 16/06/2022 18:12

Am I behind with the news re: Robert Peston interviewing Braverman? Nothing less than you’d expect from her…

Oh. You couldn't make it up. She's appalling. Really, I fear she'll start snapping at ankles.

If Boris was found standing over a stabbed body holding a knife with blood dripping from it laughing about how much fun it is to kill people , Suella would still be prepared to say there was nothing illegal about his conduct and anyway Prime Ministers are entitled to kill people when they (the PMs) are as wonderful as he is.

It's pathetic that more than a year after they got Brexit 'done', they can still only blame Remainers. They fail to realise that blaming Remainers is an admission that Brexit is failing.

Brexit is failing?

You just wait till you get your unicorn, then you will see how wonderful it is. Mine is grazing peacefully in its paddock as I type this. If you do not have a paddock then that is because you do not have the common sense and intelligence of Jacob Rees Mogg to move the paddock to Ireland so the unicorn can still live in the EU.
