I've just been invited on a three day/two night baby shower

WTF?!

Travelling to another city; meal on day/night one, 'activities' on day two followed by another meal at another restaurant. Brunch on the third morning. Two nights in pricey hotel. Plus expensive gift list. Plus themes to have to dress for such as 'pink night'

I won't be attending. The 'Mama' as she calls herself on the invites didn't even invite me to her daytime wedding, just the evening do, so I'm clearly not that good a friend!

You should be grateful you aren't invited. It sounds like an expensive nightmare to me. You dodged a bullet there.

Comefromaway · 25/04/2022 11:50

Oh my life!!!!!!!

TeddyTonks · 25/04/2022 11:51

😱😂😂😂😂😂🤦🏼‍♀️

FourOclock · 25/04/2022 11:51

Goodness, I'm just wondering how the 'mama' has the energy! (Says the pregnant person currently laid on the sofa)

MsFrog · 25/04/2022 11:51

Absolutely ridiculous. I thought hen dos were bad but this takes the biscuit!

FrancescaContini · 25/04/2022 11:52

I would do the same. I am too old to understand the appeal of these baby showers (because what if the worst happens? I’d rather celebrate with my healthy baby in my arms) and the idea of it becoming an expensive trip away 😱

Chica10 · 25/04/2022 11:53

That’s insane! And assuming that you would have had to pay for all the food and activities on top of everything else?

Why do people do this to their friends?! This is just utter creed. If the mum to be really wants to do this she should pay for every single thing. I am so glad to said no.

Indiana2021 · 25/04/2022 11:53

🙄Tell 'Mama' to do one!

How unbelievably grabby. I can confidently predict that when her little Prince or Princess arrives she'll also be the only person in the world to have ever given birth. And she'll no doubt have a dramatic birth story where she 'nearly died'.

Sone people are just bloody awful.

Changemaname1 · 25/04/2022 11:53

What fresh hell is this ?

fuck no . 🙄

WhereWasThatFrom · 25/04/2022 11:54

That wouldn't be my idea of fun but I'm sure some groups of friends would enjoy it. It's just a silly excuse to go away for a weekend and have fun. It's an invite so you can decline if it's not your thing. I don't get why you would feel annoyed by it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Chica10 · 25/04/2022 11:55

Typo, sorry. I meant to say ‘greed’ and not ‘creed’.

Swayingpalmtrees · 25/04/2022 11:56

Wow, a new layer of hell the baby showers that have gone the same way as hen parties 😵

hopefulsunshine11 · 25/04/2022 11:56

Sorry, WHAT? I'm assuming she thinks a lot of herself? I've heard it all, baby showers fair enough an afternoon bash with friends but that's a hen do she's planned not a baby shower! 🤣🤣. I honestly don't know how people can plan these things in current climate expecting people to fork out lots of money, if that's what she wants to do and people can afford it and want to do it then ok but I think it's cheeky wanting to plan such an event in the first place, expecting people to buy off a gift list, seriously? Be glad you're not going. xx

Skyeheather · 25/04/2022 11:56

Wow - I wonder how many will go?

Has she banned everyone from drinking alcohol? Otherwise Mama may find herself stone cold sober with everyone else drunk around her (which I would have hated myself, I used to give DP evil looks if he had a beer while I was pregnant 🤣).

Figgygal · 25/04/2022 11:56

What on earth???????

SleepingStandingUp · 25/04/2022 11:57

What??? How far along is she? I have birth before my first baby shower and was only good to waddle to my second and sit down a lot 😂

Swayingpalmtrees · 25/04/2022 11:57

I don't get why you would feel annoyed by it

Entitlement
Thinking the world revolves around you
The loss of time/money/energy
Annoying - calling herself Mama - what is that all about?
Etc etc
etc

A fun weekend WITH AN EXPENSIVE GIFT LIST AND DRESS CODE.

I went away with friends when I was pregnant, once abroad and once in England (pure coincidence I was pregnant). I didn't make them buy me things.

DowntonCrabby · 25/04/2022 11:59

Wow!!

Will “the Mama” likely go off in one to have her invitation declined?

Is Pregzilla a thing? Mama sounds like a prime candidate.

Pigeoning · 25/04/2022 11:59

Wow.

nearlyspringyay · 25/04/2022 12:00

Wow 😮. I don't know where to start with that one.

Sure holiday with your mates, be pregnant, but but a bloody baby shower.

welshpolarbear · 25/04/2022 12:01
Shock
EatSleepReplete · 25/04/2022 12:02

How good a friend was she before the lack of wedding invite? Or how close have you become since then? Because that would be the main influence on how diplomatic I'd be in saying no to this...

BarbaraofSeville · 25/04/2022 12:03

WTF?

I thought a young relative of mine was being grabby when she invited us all to afternoon tea in a private room at a cafe for her baby shower and a couple of days before started asking for money for our food. The concept of hosting and catering for guests seemed to have been lost on her.

FlowersforEveryone · 25/04/2022 12:06

No thanks I don't even like or attend baby showers (or those hideous "gender reveals") so definitely wouldn't go to a 3 day babyshower.
