Gosh! Haven't seen you for a while Clavinova , how are you coping with the 482 losses?

Clavinova · 07/05/2022 18:58

May 2020 was very very very different to a year later

Boris Johnson's birthday is 19th June although I notice that the restrictions mentioned earlier in the thread (for May and June) have been overstated - for England at least.

Clavinova · 07/05/2022 19:01

Fine with the council losses - a bit worried that Keir Starmer will have to resign and Labour will find someone more electable. Grin

Really. Fine with that? Your party aren't.

More electable?
Did you miss the local election results?

Surely there is more chance of enough Tory MPs realising that Boris has just cost them 25% of their local council seats and finding someone more electable than him?

DuncinToffee · 07/05/2022 19:04

Did you manage to solve the riddle of the beer in the window, Clavinova?

DuncinToffee · 07/05/2022 19:04

Did you manage to solve the riddle of the beer in the window, Clavinova?

The key question is did it take Kier more than 10 minutes to drink the beer, if it did then he is in serious trouble, if not then apparently it was permitted with in the law (although strangely that part of the law was never written down).

Luculentus · 07/05/2022 19:07

I'm very able to look at context so no, an fpn for a 10min happy birthday greeting with others is not a law breaking incident where resignation is proportionate. If he'd burgled a house as you oddly often try to compare it to, yes that would be a resignation matter.

Let's not be selective about that context. Don't forget little matters such as Josephine's cancelled birthday party, to say nothing of repeated lies to Parliament. Johnson can't conceivably have genuinely believed that a gathering involving 40 people including his wife, interior decorator and a photographer complied with the law. Is resignation proportionate for lying to Parliament?

Let's wait for Sue Grey then shall we? Because I remember distinctly you saying if there were other parties like Abba or whatever, he should go.

Brace yourself!

She's going to tell us that the ludicrous interview excuse is perfectly reasonable. Mark my words.

Clavinova · 07/05/2022 18:53

I don't see the equivalence with KS and BJ at all, BJ attended several events at the heart of Government, with family and tradespeople in attendance.

Keir Starmer's biggest problem is Rishi Sunak -

12 April 2022
The Labour leader, Keir Starmer, has said Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak “have to go”, calling them “guilty men” after the two were given fixed-penalty notices over parties held in Downing Street when government rules forbade gatherings during the Covid lockdown.

By all accounts Rishi Sunak (who is teetotal) was rather unlucky to have received a fixed-penalty notice - he was en route to a cabinet meeting but Sanctimonious Starmer said Sunak must resign as well.

No, that was the rather sad attempt to spin it. On any interpretation, attending a birthday gathering with people who had no business being there was breaking the law, and that was the risk Sunak took.

Clavinova · 07/05/2022 19:31

The key question is did it take Keir more than 10 minutes to drink the beer, if it did then he is in serious trouble

Several key questions here:

Keir Starmer was asked in January; "How many people were there [at the Durham gathering]?"
He answered; "I usually...have about 6 with me..."

If he was certain he had not broken any rules why not give an honest answer to the question? How did 6 people become 'up to 30'?

Why did he tell Good Morning Britain; "All restaurants and pubs were closed..."?

Restaurants and pubs with outside seating had been open for about two weeks at the time.

The Durham constituency office held two online events that evening - one of them was a “Pre-election CLP QUIZ and Social” - apparently Labour have refused to say where this event was hosted. Possibly the same building as Keir Starmer and Angela Rayner?

itsgettingweird · 07/05/2022 19:35

Clavinova I actually agree re the Sunak attendance. I said before that if he walked in and then walked straight out (as opposed to staying when he saw what was happening) because it was a party (non DS employees attending) and not a meeting (of the DS employees) his FPN was wrong and I'd like to see the SG report surrounding this.

I'd be interested to see what happens with Durham police and kiers beer. Because actually if they deliver an FPN they actually then should look again at Cummings.

It's like a whirlpool taking them all down!

Clavinova · 07/05/2022 19:35

Either way I'm not aware that Rishi Sunak has been linked to any other gatherings - Starmer sanctimoniously said Sunak was a 'guilty man' and 'had to go'.

Roussette · 07/05/2022 19:37

I agree. I don't have the same feelings about Sunak on this... as I do BJ. He had his wife and decorator there.
Very different.

"f he was certain he had not broken any rules why not give an honest answer to the question? How did 6 people become 'up to 30'?"

How did you come to 30 people?

Peregrina · 07/05/2022 19:43

How did you come to 30 people?

Brexit arithmetic. 52% of a vote. Ovewhelming victory.

Between 23-40% of seats lost. Just a few seats lost.

Mad Nad's maths. £200 for a takeaway with alcohol means 30 people were there (I've just paid £50 for me, DH and DS(9). We're right greedy sods!))

Clavinova · 07/05/2022 19:57

Because actually if they deliver an FPN they actually then should look again at Cummings.

They did 'look again' but decided to take no further action (Feb 2021);

Durham police have rejected a 225-page dossier alleging that Dominic Cummings perverted the course of justice in his account of the lockdown journeys he made in the north-east of England at the height of the pandemic.

After more than three months considering the allegations...

Its @Clavinova favourite number.

sashagabadon · 07/05/2022 20:23

It’s not looking great for Starmer. Guido Fawkes reporting that it was a boozy party with various assorted Durham labour people - see his Twitter feed for more details! Police to send out questionnaires like party gate ( maybe the Met have sent over their one to use as a template 😁)
I thought party gate was ridiculous and so is this. Neither are resigning matters imo but as Keir has spent weeks calling for Boris and Rishi to resign for eating cake he’s massively backed himself into a corner and will have to live up to his own ridiculous standards.
media and politicians both as bad as each other on this, entirely inflated on both sides ( although labour started it!)

Notonthestairs · 07/05/2022 20:26

Guido Fawkes 😂

Clavinova · 07/05/2022 20:26

How did you come to 30 people?

Good question!

4 May 2022
put to him repeatedly by Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley that 30 people were gathered, Sir Keir did not deny it.

www.thesun.co.uk/news/politics/18455864/squirming-sir-keir-starmer-doesnt-deny-ordering-curry/

Great comment on the interview by the Telegraph's parliamentary sketchwriter if you can access it. A snippet here;

Madeley upped the outrage, if anything, even further; describing a sea of curry, a positively Bacchanalian orgy of balti in Durham. "Thirty - THIRTY takeaway meal!" he gasped...

www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2022/05/04/keir-starmer-fails-curry-favour-spanish-inquisitors-beergate/

sashagabadon · 07/05/2022 20:27

Even Owen jones calling Keir Starmer a liar.
I might put a bet on a Jeremy Hunt and Lisa Nandy 2024 election (Hunt winning) 🤔

Notonthestairs · 07/05/2022 20:27

So by not confirming it you've decided that it's correct. Right you are.
