Thanks Rousette.

For objectivity, this is Johnson's (and Dorries) reaction

As much as I disagree with @AngelaRayner on almost every political issue I respect her as a parliamentarian and deplore the misogyny directed at her anonymously today.

derxa · 24/04/2022 12:23

Shamelessly placemarking

Cheguevarahamster · 24/04/2022 12:25

Thanks for the new thread. Still saving a bottle proscecco in the fridge 🍾for celebrating his inevitable downfall.

Piggywaspushed · 24/04/2022 12:26

Thanks roussette.

Has everyone seen the Nadine Dorries/Boris Johnson identi-tweets this morning?

Piggywaspushed · 24/04/2022 12:26

Oh woops duncin already posted it!

ilovesooty · 24/04/2022 12:27

Thank you.

Roussette · 24/04/2022 12:28

Has everyone seen the Nadine Dorries/Boris Johnson identi-tweets this morning?

Yes. I was actually about to give her some praise for her tweet, but seeing as che C&P'd her Dear Leader's tweet, I don't. Surely surely surely she is capable of writing her own words on this.

Let's unpack this:

The first 18 words or so are entirely unnecessary. Just begin 'I deplore'...

It wasn't 'anonymous' now was it?

They apparently only respect her 'as a parliamentarian'.

I deplore the misogyny directed at Angela Rayner in the Mail on Sunday today.

Fixed it for them

DuncinToffee · 24/04/2022 12:35

Well said Piggywaspushed

ClaudineClare · 24/04/2022 12:35

Now that the scandal of Angela's Legs has backfired, the Tories are digging up the bones of Keir's beer again. The spin this time is that the PCC of Durham was there and that is why Keir was cleared of wrongdoing.

Janiie incoming shortly I expect...

Piggywaspushed · 24/04/2022 12:38

Starmer got quite tetchy with Sophie Raworth on this this morning. The new thing is comparing it specifically with Sunak's FPN.

ClaudineClare · 24/04/2022 12:44

It would be very interesting if Starmer did end up getting an FPN for Durham. How would Johnson handle it? He couldn't call for Starmer to resign. He wouldn't be able to weaponise it without blowing his own head off.

the80sweregreat · 24/04/2022 13:19

If Boris Johnson does ( eventually) resign because of the fines etc then I can see why the the Conservatives would then start on Keir starmer to resign too or Nicola Sturgeon for not wearing a mask indoors or any of the other MPs who broke the lockdown laws as well in the last few years.
I'm not a fan of Boris Johnson at all and I agree he lied in parliament and they were well aware it was a party ( but trying to say they were not parties and only work gatherings ) and they broke the laws, but so did KS , even though the restrictions were not as bad at that time and he was on official business having a break ( but so was Boris Johnson too , so they say )
I didn't see KS being interviewed today , but he will have to answer questions too about what he was doing at that time.
The tories will cling onto this ( the same as Labour have since November last year) and it'll be the old ' tit for tat' politics we always get.
The police were also at number 10 during party gate too, but it's taken months before any fines were issued
My neighbours are conservatives and mentioned K S to me the other day , ' he did it too ' they argued , smugly ! I couldn't really disagree! This is probably how Boris Johnson will stay where he is.
It's clear that many politicians and some of the scientists too thought they were above the law
It is a mess , I do think he should be called out for lying , but the parties will just bring up KS's meeting and his beer and it will still be all rumbling on by next Christmas at this rate.

Roussette · 24/04/2022 13:41

But isn't it very different? BJ went to either 6 or 7 'parties'. How does that compare with having a beer whilst stood up in a room with 3 others at the end of a meeting. For instance, BJ attended the BYOB which was an invitation thing and was there for half an hour plus and gave a speech. At least I think that was the one, or was it another one. I just don't see the similarity. And isn't it about the rule of law?
Hasn't KS's beer been investigated and no FPNs issued?
Or am I missing something....

Notonthestairs · 24/04/2022 13:45

KS was investigated and cleared. If Durham Police want to look again at that so be it.

But so far as I am aware KS hasn't repeatedly mislead Parliament or failed to correct the record.

If the FPN for the cake ambush with event staff isn't sufficiently persuasive because "work meeting" blah blah then how does that square against a very obvious party (garden for 40 or Abba gate).

the80sweregreat · 24/04/2022 13:47

Your not missing anything at all
I don't think that KS's actions are as bad as BJ , but if you saw my final paragraph about my neighbours, this is how it will be ' spun !'
I'm playing devils advocate, whilst acknowledging that anyone who thinks that what Boris and co did ' wasn't that bad ' will just then bring up KS and that photo of him at a work gathering and how ' they are all as bad as each other ' and then justify voting Tory again etc
It's just how it'll be put forwards in the Mail or to try and stop Boris Johnson from resigning or whatever.
Hope that makes sense!

Notonthestairs · 24/04/2022 13:47

And the party in the garden occurred when we were restricted to meeting one other person outside socially distanced. Work meetings could only happen if "absolutely necessary".

Notonthestairs · 24/04/2022 13:48

We should challenge the "they are all the same line" trotted out to save people from thinking. It's lazy and plain wrong.

MapleMay11 · 24/04/2022 13:50

They are absolutely as bad for a man so desperate to be the future prime minister. With every day that passes, Starmer's chances slip further and further away.

Roussette · 24/04/2022 13:54

80 Oh yes, I am agreeing with you, and disputing what your neighbours would say!

I have a very good friend and we are on different sides totally, so much so, I avoid any talk on this sort of thing as much as possible. I'm sure she would say exactly that given half the chance!

But how anyone can compare the two (KS's beer with endless partying) I don't know!

In fact I do know really.... some people just know without fail he's done wrong, but to admit that, means to question their own judgement and they just can't do that. So it's much easier to say 'people don't care' or 'everyone's sick of hearing about partygate' or 'there's a war going on don't you know' etc etc etc

Absolutely. And the circumstances were completely different.

“The restrictions allowed people to work when they needed to, we were running an election campaign, we were in a constituency office.”
He said no restaurants or pubs were open and the hotel he and colleagues were staying in did not serve food, so “if you didn’t get a takeaway then our team wasn’t eating that evening”.

I really must stop with the C&P - I’m turning into a Poundshop Clav!
