"we've had fpns for saying happy birthday in the office at work"

No Johnson had an FPN for a planned social event - 40 people plus events staff, wife, decorator and official photographer in the Cabinet Office.

Peregrina · 07/05/2022 11:20

I dunno who AlexanderKalks is. Perhaps I should go on twitter and sound off about German politics? It would be about as well informed.

"Wasn't it predicted to be at least 800?"

I gather that the Tories were only standing in circa 1400 seats. So for Tory HQ to say "look we are so crap that we expect to lose 57% of the seats we are going to contest" wasn't exactly the best advert for them. No wonder those losing councillors up and down the land are annoyed. Some of whom were perfectly decent. Others not, others lazy and complacent and deserved to get the boot.

W Oxfordshire only managed to win 4 out of the 11 seats they contested i.e. 64% loss. A resounding success for Johnson.

Oxford City as before remains a Tory free zone.

SueSaid · 07/05/2022 11:22

'Ah ok, so we all agree that if the police find wrong doing the leader should quit.'

No sorry you misunderstand. They shouldn't get rid because he boozed at work, they should get rid because he's a crap leader and a mahoosive hypocrite. This Durham thing wouldn't have been an issue if evey single time he was on the telly he didn't whine 'the pm broke the rules waaah'. He's only fit for ridicule.

Cornettoninja · 07/05/2022 11:22

Steven Swinford reporting a minister saying 80% of Cons MPs want rid of Johnson - apparently they will wait a bit longer to move as they don't want to damage 2019 intake

imho this kind of thing is what is really damaging the tories. Internal politics at the expense of everyone else.

I have a lot of time for my local Tory MP, he’s good at what he does and unsurprisingly kept his seat, BUT, he’s also towing the party line on Boris and clearly feels no responsibility in his part of allowing this saga of blatant corruption and ineptitude to continue.

This is all off the scale stuff that would have completely sunk a politician a few years ago yet here we are allowing the crooked to rewrite the rules of decency.

Where has the figure of 30 for curry come from? Made up figures again

I think that came from financial expert Nads Dorries who calculated £200 would buy curry for 30 people.

Can she recommend somewhere? Me, DH, 4 kids, their partners, 6 GC would be about that and some of the children are under school age.

Cornettoninja · 07/05/2022 11:24

Your stance is incoherent and conflicting. Make your mind up @JaniieJones .

In Tunbridge Wells the Tories lost 10 of their 12 councillors who were up for election. Last time I checked Tunbridge Wells was about as true blue as one could find.

But Jeremy Corbyn had a beer.

Notonthestairs · 07/05/2022 11:24

Agree Cornetto. They are allowing themselves to be tarred with the same brush.

You ae pure gold Janiie!

If we were to get rid of people because they are 'hypocrites' and boozed at work that's most of the Westminster civil servants and half the government gone!
50 FPN's so far and counting...

If that's not hypocritical I don't know what is. Make the rules. Break the rules. Hypocrisy at its finest. Talking of crap leaders.... -482 seats.

I'll just repeat it, in case you missed it -482

@JaniieJones Starmer is a crap leader and yet saw his party's share of the vote and number of councillors increase.

Where does that leave Boris Johnson given that his party's share of the vote fell and lost over 25% of the council seats that they previously held?

Roussette · 07/05/2022 11:28

Oh yes. It's Royal Tunbridge Wells too!
I know someone who lives there... he works for the Duke of Westminster, he is the poshest person I know!

@JaniieJones I think I have it worked out. You are a huge fan of Carla Denyer and Adrian Ramsey as leaders, and given their massive electoral success anyone else is crap.

It all makes sense now.

It's all just a game to you

It really isn't. I'm Irish, product of a green&orange marriage with a foot each side of the border. About time the small island of Ireland was reunited.

SueSaid · 07/05/2022 11:37

'About time the small island of Ireland was reunited.'

Absolutely agree with you. Do you know what the stats are on both sides of the border in favour, out of interest?

SueSaid · 07/05/2022 11:39

'Starmer is a crap leader and yet saw his party's share of the vote and number of councillors increase.'

Not by much. Post pandemic, post partygate cost of living crisis etc it should have been a Tony Blair style landslide. Starmer is hopeless.

Peregrina · 07/05/2022 11:41

In Oxford City they weren't even prepared to call themselves Conservatives, but 'Local Conservatives'. What a ringing endorsement of the current Government.

DuncinToffee · 07/05/2022 11:43

If Starmer is such a bad leader, why would the Tories want him out?

L1ttledrummergirl · 07/05/2022 11:49

The sad thing is that this shows that the Conservatives are still not listening.
How can you claim to represent people you refuse to listen to?

It only takes the Labour Party to start listening with regard to the gender issue and the Conservatives will be gone.

It's a fucking disgrace.

Starmer is hopeless because he now has 5% more councillors than when those seats were last contested. So what is Boris Johnson given that he has 26% fewer councillors than the hapless Teresa May managed to achieve in 2018?

I don’t disagree with you, what I’m struggling to understand is how, even with the loss of Tory supporters and seats, police action, parliamentary findings of misconduct, confirmed illegal actions by the PM in proroguing parliament, countless other accusations of fraud and nepotism there is still no action from the Tory party themselves. There are a sizeable number of self declared tories who don’t recognise their own party anymore.

The rules have changed, mostly it seems amongst the politicians themselves and those still adhering to traditional codes of conduct are pitted against those who see no reason why they should be held to the same standards.

from where I’m sitting all I can observe is that we’re currently residing in a country where a deeply flawed and ineffective PM is immune to consequence. Imho that’s an unsettling and dangerous place to be. There are only the quietest of rumbles about tories, drowned out by increasingly alarmed calls to oust one individual and bring order to the current regime.

SueSaid · 07/05/2022 11:55

DuncinToffee · 07/05/2022 11:43

Well true, 'The tories' probably want him in as he's got no chance of being PM.

I'm just saying if we want a credible opposition they need a different leader.

I think it is a plot to make sure the Conservative party is unelectable as possible and even though the leader of the opposition is apparently hopeless his party can take large numbers of seats off them.

ClaudineClare · 07/05/2022 11:56

I don't think this is true at all. Most people are more worried about the cost of living, NHS etc. The gender "wars" are not top of the list for many.
