Alexandra, I know re my last post.
I'm an arm chair observer I'm just saying we... shouldn't wait and be reactive all the time...we should flood the whole place now....get boot's in under what ever circumstances... Which is what's he does.

We are too reactive...we have a window...be proactive and get in

Ijsbear · 06/04/2022 20:53

Dear God I hope those who can get out of Donbas and Luhansk have the sense to go.

Signing in. Thanking all contributors

Given the fact that arms are being announced after they have arrived, I would be very surprised if stuff is not happening under the radar. Donbas was pointed out as the next logical place before the Russians withdrew from Kyiv and there's a lot of experienced fighters already in place.

I am currently watching the Hunger Games. The parallels are depressing.

Ijsbear · 06/04/2022 21:09

1984 is the book that comes to mind. Russia is actually living at least half of that. The propaganda is disorientating to read.

PaperTyger · 06/04/2022 21:10

Lisjbear it's all in that very clearly but aforementioned books are real life mind bending

HeechulOppa · 06/04/2022 21:21

@PaperTyger re a point you made about the Russian battalion not looking ethnically Russian - there are a lot of Russian areas to the east and south east where native Russians look East Asian. When you think about how large Russia is and how many countries it borders it’s interesting to see how their physical appearance is so close to those of their neighbours, suggesting looser borders in the past etc

cloudberry · 06/04/2022 21:23

Thanks for the new thread and as always to all of you for contributing. I can’t quite compute what I’m reading about what is happening, especially the latest horror in Mariupol. What is the name of the book about what the women in Berlin went through at the hands of the Red Army? I thought Si’s taken a screenshot shot but can’t find it. I don’t know if it makes it any better knowing that the Russian army is consistent in its depravity - and yes I known this is dregs of human nature not exclusive to Russian soldiers. I do remember the gut-churning horror of what went on in the Balkans and the memory of one particular report has haunted me ever since. Part of me wanted to not believe what I read but hearing about what is happening now, I know it was real. The awful thing is my teenage kids seem completely uninterested in what’s going on in Ukraine ….. ☹️

Thanks for the new thread and to all the posters for such informed posts

cloudberry · 06/04/2022 21:26

I also wonder if these soldiers are ‘fuelled’ by more than alcohol to behave so utterly barbarically.

Ijsbear · 06/04/2022 21:33
