This has just been reported on BBC News. He was only 50 years old. Thoughts are with his friends and family.

I'm absolutely gutted.

What a drummer!

They are amazing live and you can see Taylor's heart and soul go into the sets.
I'm truly devastated.

Fizzgigg · 26/03/2022 09:50

It's tough to be a fan of 90s American rock bands. Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Mike Starr, Kristan Pfaff, Stephanie Sergeant, Scott Weiland, Chris Cornell all gone and in the last month Mark Lanegan and now Taylor Hawkins. And I'm sure I've forgotten loads of people.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 26/03/2022 09:54

I am honestly completely devastated. First thing I read was a text from my mum and I thought she was on about someone else.

His poor poor family and band mates. This will hit Dave Grohl so hard

Atmywitsend29 · 26/03/2022 09:55

Agree with the pp who said Dave and Taylor were like the core of the band, they were amazing. I can't imagine FF without Taylor 😞
Genuinely gutted.

Pinkypie86 · 26/03/2022 10:02

My favourite band. Taylor seemed like he had a truly lovely soul. Again, I'm not usually affected by these things but, I listen to their music all the time, and was due to be seeing them In London this June.
Heartbroken for his family and friends.

CremeEggThief · 26/03/2022 10:05

😢💙

the80sweregreat · 26/03/2022 10:07

It is sad news.

toomanytwinkies · 26/03/2022 10:15

@StrangeAddiction

R.I.P Taylor.

Bit of a coincidence but I've been hearing Foo Fighters "My Hero" over the last few days (which ends up being an ear worm!) on tv which was written as a tribute to Kurt Cobain and as someone on Twitter said Dave being the drummer in Nirvana and losing his front man (Kurt) to becoming the front man and losing his drummer (Taylor). Sad

I rediscovered February Star the other day and have been playing it lots and that was a tribute to Kurt. How weird.
TechGinny · 26/03/2022 10:23

I'm heartbroken, I just can't believe it.

Velveteenchair · 26/03/2022 10:24

So sad. He was absolutely bloody gorgeous.

SmellyWellyWoo · 26/03/2022 10:28

So sad, I loved the Foo Fighters for many years. So many icons of that generation are dead way before their time, it's heart breaking.

Sparklingbrook · 26/03/2022 10:29

He was a very beautiful man. DG said when they went to bars women would send Taylor drinks over. Smile

longtompot · 26/03/2022 10:34

Such sad news. He seemed such a lovely person, loved the rapport between him and Dave. Such a talented drummer. I hope Foos will continue but somehow I don't think they will. I really hoped I would see them live one day

JuliaSways · 26/03/2022 10:37

I don't often get overly upset by famous deaths, but this has really shocked and upset me.

He seemed like such a genuinely nice person, he was an amazing entertainer and obviously a brilliant drummer.

I'm a huge Queen fan and also love The Darkness (Roger Taylor's son, Rufus, is the drummer with TD) and the 3 drummers were good friends, Roger Taylor has put a post on Instagram mentioning Taylor's influence on Rufus.

I do wonder IF they continue with the band, whether they'd have Rufus play. Early days though, I can't imagine them wanting to carry on without Taylor Sad

Eyesofdisarray · 26/03/2022 10:47

Really sad news. Love the Foos.
RIP Taylor; always looked such a happy, smiley guy. His interviews always made me smile.

amusedbush · 26/03/2022 10:58

DH told me first thing this morning, what shit news to start the day. I love FF, I only got to see them live once (2005) but their music is never out of rotation on my playlists.

I’m laughing now, remembering how many times over the years I have explained to my mum that he and Dave Grohl are not brothers. Every single time a FF music video came on the TV, she would ask me as if it was the first time we had ever had the conversation 😅

TimBoothseyes · 26/03/2022 11:20

Met him when FF played a surprise gig in the local town. He was so lovely and very funny. Listening to him and Dave it was clear that they were the best of mates. The memory of that gig and the drinks afterwards will always be one of the best. Rest in Power, Taylor.

SnottyLottie · 26/03/2022 11:36

Foofighters trolling the Westboro Baptist Church with disco music is a thing of beauty.

Pedallleur · 26/03/2022 12:21

The band will continue. It's Grohls band and he has lived this before. Just a cliche of being found dead in a hotel room. I just know it's going to be the usual causes. Be sad if it is. He was a vibrant character who lit Up a stage with his smile and his ferocious drumming.

Sparklingbrook · 26/03/2022 12:26

I am not sure if the band will continue TBH. I don't doubt DG will continue making music because that's what he does. He's said it was music that saved him when KC died but whether the FF will continue I am not so sure.

Winkydink · 26/03/2022 12:30

I haven’t been this upset about a famous person passing since I woke up the news of Kurt Cobain’s death as a 16 year old. Really recommend Dave Grohl’s memoir - so well written with fantastic passages about Taylor. So sad for his wife and kids - and Dave losing yet another best friend.

gogohm · 26/03/2022 12:32

Love the foo fighters, so sad to hear this news, so young. Was thinking about how Dave Grohl reinvented himself after nirvana just the other day when I came across my unused nirvana ticket (Kurt cobain took his life a few days before the gig)

NeedWineNow · 26/03/2022 12:57

I was absolutely stunned when I heard the news this morning. They are my favourite band and we have tickets for Manchester in June. It is just so sad, and I feel so much for the rest of the band, his family and friends. Me and DH have just been up the road, me in my Foo Fighters top and Foo Fighters Vans, and were stopped by another couple in similar garb, and we stood chatting about how sad it was. We discussed whether they would continue but really it's too early to speculate. Just remembering what a fantastic band they were live with Taylor as the driving force behind the drum kit. RIP Taylor.

augustusglupe · 26/03/2022 14:11

SnottyLottie

That's great! Never seen that before. Much needed, made me smile Smile

RedShoesBlues · 26/03/2022 14:20

So horribly sad, he was way too young and so full of life. Heartbreaking.
