Thank you @Alexandra2001

Not sure of it has been discussed on other thread, but have read this morning that Russian Drone flew over Poland and was shot down.
Not in BBC/Sky but the Sun, Twitter and a couple of other tabloids.
Has anybody else seen this?

shreddednips · 15/03/2022 07:47

Thanks for the new thread!

Ijsbear · 15/03/2022 07:48

Thanks. Poor number 13, what did it ever do to you? :-D

My Companion (don't do bf/husband after a terrible marriage) works in high level IT security and he says there are a lot of attacks going on. The English language Russian govt site was unreachable last night.

By sheer chance he'd completed some unusual precautions against cyber attacks literally 3 days before the invasion started. He says they've been quite heavily tested for real since the invasion. Russias at it, no doubt about it.

Peregrina · 15/03/2022 07:51

I see that the Telegraph has a headline 'West made a terrible mistake with Putin, says PM'.

He is one of the last people who should talk! So did the Tory Party divest itself of Russian money after 2014?

Natsku · 15/03/2022 07:53

Did we jump from 12 to 14 to avoid unlucky 13 or is there a thread 13 hiding somewhere?

Thanks for the new thread anyway.

Cyber attacks and GPS jamming are definitely ongoing, I expect the NATO exercises in Norway currently will get some interference.

Thanks for the new thread.

Is part of the issue about really knowing what's going on with cyber is that organisations won't want the publicity that there are weaknesses in their systems?

"Prime ministers of the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovenia will travel to Kyiv on Tuesday to meet President Volodomyr Zelenskiy as representatives of European Union leaders, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala said on social networks."

I can't really understand how they'll get in or out safely. I admire their bravery however.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 15/03/2022 08:10

@notimagain yes, I have seen a few of these reports but not on the main news, which appears to me they have not confirmed it yet? Do you agree?

Is this something that will cause a NATO retaliation?

Alexandra2001 · 15/03/2022 08:12

Yes laughed at that one!

Not just the Tories but sport, reliance on Russian raw materials, his govt making billions in extra tax from the hike in energy prices, which isn't being fed back to the struggling consumer but stored up for election tax cuts.

Thanks @Alexandra2001.

I’m not sure about the drone in Polish airspace, interesting that no big news channels aren’t reporting it.

Also I don’t understand why we aren’t threatening to sanction any country which props up Russia.

MagicFox · 15/03/2022 08:15

Thanks @Alexandra2001

I personally don’t see a drone overflight as reported in this case as being cause for NATO retaliation TBH…

@Natsku

Reference the GPS jamming comment ..FYI -it’s something that has been going on near Russian areas of operation for some - it is or was an issue over parts of the Eastern Mediterranean for several years, and was I think generally assumed to be associated with the Syrian conflict.

I was searching through chat for ages for thread 13, thinking loads must have happened while I was sleeping to fill up a whole thread and start a new one!

One think that has struck me is the lack of support from the Commonwealth, where is the one voice condemnation?
Sure the Western sphere ones but India is buying Russian oil at a discount.

So much for "we don't need EU, we have the CommonWealth"

It is our traditional allies that have united, indeed gone further.

@notimagain that is reassuring, thank you.

Natsku · 15/03/2022 08:24

@notimagain Russia was suspected of jamming GPS during NATO exercises in Norway before and they are suspected of doing it in Finland lately yle.fi/news/3-12352631
