So far Ukrainians are saying this. And that it was them who shot it down.

There is no confirmation from Poland nor verification of any other kind about it.

I'll keep an eye on it.

Even if it happened, my suspicion is there will be radio silence (in fact the more silence the more likely it is to my mind. If its not true there will be a strong rebuttal). But nothing will happen until something is actually hit on the NATO side of the border.

No strategic benefit.

@Peregrina

I see that the Telegraph has a headline 'West made a terrible mistake with Putin, says PM'.

He is one of the last people who should talk! So did the Tory Party divest itself of Russian money after 2014?

Nothing as self -serving as blaming your predecessor, is there?
Peregrina · 15/03/2022 08:31

One think that has struck me is the lack of support from the Commonwealth, where is the one voice condemnation? Sure the Western sphere ones but India is buying Russian oil at a discount.

Call me an old cynic, but it was only the White Commonwealth that we were interested in.

Russia have been jamming and causing cyber disruption to NATO exercises - and attempting to disrupt personal equipment belonging to personnel on the exercise - near their borders for a long time. I wouldn't say that that's anything new really.

MagicFox · 15/03/2022 08:33

Chinese state media reporting Ukraine are saying a peace deal is likely within two weeks. Why does this make me feel uneasy? Can't see this reported anywhere else? twitter.com/cgtnofficial/status/1503510531495571456?s=21

MarshaBradyo · 15/03/2022 08:36

Thanks
@notimagain Russia was suspected of jamming GPS during NATO exercises in Norway before and they are suspected of doing it in Finland lately yle.fi/news/3-12352631
Thanks for the link…I’ve seen GPS jamming a couple of times…for the benefit of nervous flyers I’ll emphasize it wasn’t a big deal in the context where we were using it ( it might just limit certain types of operations).

I suspect it might be possibly much more of a major PITA/more limiting for the military in some circumstances.

Petr Fiala

Today, we are going together with PM of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki, deputy PM Jarosław Kaczyński and PM of Slovenia Janez Janša to Kiev as representatives of the European Council to meet with president Zelensky and PM Shmyhal.

They say purpose is to “confirm the unequivocal support of the entire EU for the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.”

AgnesWestern · 15/03/2022 08:41

Thanks for the new thread.

@MagicFox I really really hope that’s true, but I guess we need to wait until it’s reported elsewhere first.

MFA of Ukraine @MFA_Ukraine

A new Ukraine tartan has been registered in Scotland’s national tartan register. The new ornament named “Ukraine forever”

Read as 'we are a bit concerned at what you are going to accept in the negotiations'.

holliem91 · 15/03/2022 08:45

@MagicFox

Why does it make you feel uneasy? I thought that would be a good thing. Fingers crossed but I'm not getting my hopes up too much.

DuncinToffee · 15/03/2022 08:49

Polish PM
Together with Deputy PM Jarosław Kaczyński, PM @PFiala and PM @JJansaSDS we are going to Kiev to meet President @ZelenskyyUa and PM @DenysShmyhal. Europe must guarantee Ukraine's independence and ensure that it is ready to help in Ukraine's reconstruction.

Under the link you sent I saw another section which was an Azov recruitment one. I did not click on it but felt a bit concerned seeing they are the more national front types/‘nazis’. Do you know if it remains true that they only represent about 2% ?”

“I have no idea.

I am not going to indulge 'gotcha' posts. Its not good faith.”

My post was neither ‘gotcha’ nor in bad faith.

New - At least 88,000 people have registered for Homes for Ukraine, which means it has doubled overnight. Incredible generosity from people wanting to help.

Quite!

Didn't the Telegraph receive £500k a year from the Russian's state news agency to run pro-Kremlin articles? Some of which were written by BJ himself?

And doesn't Lord Lebedev have a dog called Boris? While BJ is known in Russian oligarch circles as 'Sacha' (from his real name Alexander)?

Sounds like we've got a serious security risk right under our noses and afawk nothing is done about it :-(

And just in case people have missed it, the very brave Marina Ovsyannikova

I think I felt suspicious because it hadn't been reported elsewhere but thanks for the BBC link - I think it's just a more positive re-wording!

ClaudineClare · 15/03/2022 09:05

Marina Ovsyannikova was very brave to do that. I hope she will be OK.

Why travel to meet?why not via video link? Seems unusual. And aren’t they all putting themselves and zelensky at risk by being more visible?
CailleachGranda · 15/03/2022 09:11

Thanks for the thread. I don't contribute but read avidly

Helocariad · 15/03/2022 09:13

Agree that it looks risky for Zelenskyy to travel :-/
