What sort of people do you envy?

Because I’ve just realised I really envy people who don’t feel the cold! (Recalling a day this week when I stood shivering in a train station, wrapped in about seven layers, chatting to a glamorous acquaintance who was perfectly at ease in a long sleeved dress.)

Excluded qualities:

Family & relationships. Children. Wealth. Good looks. Because otherwise the thread would be pointless.

(Do I really need to add lighthearted to the title? Hmm )

OP posts:
imamumgetmeoutofhere · 13/03/2022 20:17

People that can fall asleep within minutes of being in bed and stay asleep all night

Sunnytwobridges · 13/03/2022 20:22

People that have had an easy life and got mainly everything they wanted. My life wasn’t easy and I didn’t get a thing I wanted. 😂

karmakemmie · 13/03/2022 20:24

Ha ha! I love this thread.

I too am envious of those who effortlessly park. I always watch in admiration and silently praise them. It once took me 15mins to parallel park much to the disgust of DC (7 and 4 Grin) in the back. And even then I was about a metre off and had to wait for DP to finish the job. I blame the tree lined streets and uneven kerbs but i'm just shit at it Hmm

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 13/03/2022 20:26

I wish I wasn't so sensitive.

DuesToTheDirt · 13/03/2022 20:28

Big things - people who travel the world in a campervan.

Small things - people who can't sit still, they must get so much done. I like nothing better than lying around on the sofa Grin.

Afonavon · 13/03/2022 20:30

I envy people who:

Have a healthy relationship with food

Who’s children don’t have health problems and are unable to support themselves in the future

Have a good memory

Are good at making friends

Have patience

Nosetickle · 13/03/2022 20:30

People who don’t need a lot of sleep!

FindingMeno · 13/03/2022 20:34

People who don't run around twitching and squealing like a five year old when they see a wasp.

HeyItsPickleRick · 13/03/2022 20:38

People who can touch their eye. I'm detained to forever be a speccy four eyes or get laser.

People who have no shame. Acquaintance of mine has written a book and is trying to become some sort of motivational speaker as far as I can work out and posts all these cringey long posts followed by "what about you?" on her Facebook. It's people like her who start businesses and do cool stuff. Not people like me who would find it far too shameful to even post a selfie.

Octopus37 · 13/03/2022 20:41

I envy bigger, deeper things, but lighthearted envy includes:

People who can fake confidence and fake being OK when they're not. I find the former particularly hard.
People who can draw
People who can sew (cant even thread needles cause of awful hand eye coordination.
People who dont need a lot of sleep
People who can skip meals and not notice
Peope who can be welcoming and nurturing all the time, I'm a massive introvert, quickly feel put upon and want to run off and be by myself.
People who were savvy with money from a young age, I'm not terrible, but could have done a lot better
People with natural good general knowledge.
People who can master driving
People who tan
Peope who can consistently work like mad, without burning out
Natural optimists
People who are good at DIY

willowstar · 13/03/2022 21:03

I used to be really fit and healthy but a prolapsed disk, dodgy sacroiliac joint, plantar fascitis and flat feet mean that I can barely walk without a lot of pain and my life is really quite restricted now. I used to LOVE running, cycling, spin classes etc...so...I envy people who can move freely and use their bodies and get the rush of exercise I used to get.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 13/03/2022 21:06

Those who sleep well and wake up feeling refreshed and ready for their day.

There's nothing that could beat that feeling.

Clarabe1 · 13/03/2022 21:20

Something that really turns me green with envy is people who can do the splits. I have absolutely no idea why I want to the splits but I do.

Clarabe1 · 13/03/2022 21:25

Never mind @StorminaBcup. I am sure there are people who are jealous of the fact that we already know what colour we will turn when we are dead. Not everyone has that insight. ! Summer corpse hands here too - and when I am driving!

Copenhagenoffice · 13/03/2022 21:38

Those who can sleep anywhere under any circumstances. I need a fan, my special flat pillow, my sheet, a pillow between my knees, lately - my daughter's stuffed toy which she wanted me to cuddle one night and now it has to always be there, DH to be facing the other way, pitch blackness... need I go on.

Brilliant! Me too.

Also envy people who don't analyse every conversation they've ever had harking back to the 1980's.

I'm too excitable - fgs - someone actually called me that the other day. I like to think I'm passionate and articulate, clearly I am not.....

gluenotsoup · 13/03/2022 21:39

People who can just drive anywhere confidently and actually get there. I hate motorways.
People who have good rhythm and can dance well.
People whose lives seem to have gone perfectly to plan.
Any woman who has had more than one baby and still has a flat stomach and defined waist.

Copenhagenoffice · 13/03/2022 21:39

People who don't run around twitching and squealing like a five year old when they see a wasp.

That made me proper laugh! See above re being too 'excitable' 🤦‍♀️

blueshoes · 13/03/2022 21:43

gluenotsoup I am with you about people driving confidently and getting somewhere. Satnav and me don't get on. Night blindness does not help.

I am also envious of people with a sense of direction. Any sense of direction, not zilch like me. If I go on a business trip, I stay in my hotel when I have free time because if I go out exploring, I may not find my way back. It is like being in prison.

glowingcandle · 13/03/2022 21:50

Aww I quite like this thread now. I have a flat stomach/defined waist despite having two kids. And I enjoy housework. I also don't mind driving to new places.

I never thought to appreciate these things before.

XenoBitch · 13/03/2022 21:53

@Clarabe1

Something that really turns me green with envy is people who can do the splits. I have absolutely no idea why I want to the splits but I do.
Ha, same. Or back flips! I would love to do an impromptu backflip away from someone who is pissing me off. Like Catwoman!

I keep seeing ads on FB for some course that claims you will be able to do the splits in 4 weeks. They all feature a supple 20 year old.

Evanna13 · 13/03/2022 21:53

People with great hair, without any effort.
People with perfect eyesight.
People who are socially graceful.
People with lots of energy.
People with a talent (music, art etc).

LoveFall · 13/03/2022 21:55

I also wish I could suffer fools in silence. Instead I make people annoyed by correcting them.

Example. On a walking tour with a local guide in Alaska. Another tourist asked if beluga caviar came from Beluga Whales. She said yes!

I could not stop myself from saying no it doesn't, whales are mammals and have a live birth. They don't make masses of eggs. Caviar comes from egg laying fish.

I could feel the guide trying to curse me to a life of misery the whole rest of the tour.

I am such a bitch sometimes. But really?

15MinutesOlder · 13/03/2022 21:59

@TheChosenTwo thanks for the information. I’ve nothing, I use a heat protection spray by ghetto but I only straighten if I’m going out out and even then only lightly to prevent damage. My hair is fine, if left to dry naturally has a kink and any humidity or drizzle it’s like Monica from friends. My DH and DS have the hair I dream of but our DD inherited my hair gene.

15MinutesOlder · 13/03/2022 22:00

@TheChosenTwo ghd not ghetto

Copenhagenoffice · 13/03/2022 22:03

LoveFall

That's not bitchy though I don't think.
I'd have done the same and then felt like a know all for the rest of the day 🤦‍♀️
