What sort of people do you envy?

Because I’ve just realised I really envy people who don’t feel the cold! (Recalling a day this week when I stood shivering in a train station, wrapped in about seven layers, chatting to a glamorous acquaintance who was perfectly at ease in a long sleeved dress.)

Excluded qualities:

Family & relationships. Children. Wealth. Good looks. Because otherwise the thread would be pointless.

(Do I really need to add lighthearted to the title? Hmm )

People who draw on their eyeliner perfectly.

JessCat75 · 13/03/2022 10:55

People who can do DIY, I'm absolutely rubbish at things like this.

TammyOne · 13/03/2022 10:56

Seconding the public speaking one. I really envy people who can stand up in front of a crowd of people and just talk, sounding at ease and exactly like themselves. When I talk, and the focus of more than 2 people is on me my voice comes out in a raspy growl, or like I have just inhaled helium and my accent veers all over the country, often to places I have never been… whyyyy??!

TacoCats · 13/03/2022 10:57

People who are healthy.

I have many illnesses and I'd love just one day to be healthy enough to do whatever I fancied without worrying about the impact it'd have on my health or knowing I can't do a certain activity because I'm so restricted.

Other than that I don't really envy anyone. You don't know peoples struggles behind closed doors.Smile

TottersBlankly · 13/03/2022 10:57

@wouldHAVEshouldHAVEcouldHAVE

People who can dance unselfconsciously at a party without being drunk.
Does such a person exist?! Shock

(I wouldn’t like them, anyway.)

My initial thought was no one but then I remembered

People with good hair, hair that can just be left to dry and it still looks good and those whose hair doesn’t get frizzy in humidity or drizzle. What I would give to have their hair.

TammyOne · 13/03/2022 10:57

Ooh, im brilliant at eyeliner though so that makes me feel better, thanks Matilda

Glamorous ones, people who just are kind of shiny and put together. And people with matching houses too. Just that polished/shiny thing that I seem to be incapable of achieving.

Laska2Meryls · 13/03/2022 11:01

Ectomorphs

People with small boobs

People who can pass.

And those with social confidence ...

glowingcandle · 13/03/2022 11:02

People who are passionate about their work, usually they are people who have had a clear idea about what they want to do from a young age. Whereas I just fell into a career I don't particularly enjoy and now feel trapped there.

People who enjoy exercise.

People who are able to be assertive and say no in a really positive, friendly way. I've been a people pleaser for as long as I can remember and really struggle with this.

mistermagpie · 13/03/2022 11:02

People with nice hair. Not rapunzel, flowing locks necessarily, just the kind of hair that doesn't need anything much doing with it to look presentable.

My hair is thin, limp, frizzy and simultaneously greasy and dry. It needs blow drying to look remotely not-terrible and never ever looks actually nice.

Also people who are good at parking.

TottersBlankly · 13/03/2022 11:03

I can speak in public - for work type things. (I don’t love it, but the fear is manageable and I’m fine once I’ve begun.)

But I’ve spent decades trying to ensure I’m never invited to parties. And I never understand that ‘group of friends’ thing’. Can happily sit and chat to one friend; add another and I immediately start to believe they both despise me and would rather I disappeared … ‘Tis weird.

Haha, you and me are basically after the same thing!

ChameFangeNail · 13/03/2022 11:05

Anyone with a separate laundry room and/or boot room in their house.

Ooh yes this is a good one, also envious of people that don’t have hooded eyelids due to this reason.
the80sweregreat · 13/03/2022 11:07

I do envy thin people a lot.
Those that ouze confidence and can understand technology really well
I envy many people to be honest

@15MinutesOlder I was going to add this!
People who feel comfortable washing their hair, leaving it to air dry and then just leaving the house! HOURS I spend controlling and taming my mop - HOURS!
I rarely dry it and straighten it maybe once per week. I have worked out a strategy to get maximum yield on my Herculean efforts but my god what i wouldn’t give to have naturally beautiful hair…

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 13/03/2022 11:14

Good dancers
Good sleepers
People who invested in crypto 10 years ago didn't talk DH out of it, no, not me

Also a part of me wishes I could be one of those 'more the merrier'' mums with a big family and a chaotic, welcoming house. I suspect DS wouldn't actually like it that much, so this one is completely irrational.

15MinutesOlder · 13/03/2022 11:16

@TheChosenTwo @mistermagpie
I think I’ve tried every product going over the years, if you know something that works I will love you forever Flowers

JellyNo15 · 13/03/2022 11:17

Positive people and people who can easily maintain a healthy weight.

clpsmum · 13/03/2022 11:17

People with no money worries and lots of family support

shabbalabba · 13/03/2022 11:19

People who always look "put together" even when they just put on pj's and are not even trying!! 😭😭😭
