What sort of people do you envy?

TottersBlankly · 13/03/2022 10:14

Because I’ve just realised I really envy people who don’t feel the cold! (Recalling a day this week when I stood shivering in a train station, wrapped in about seven layers, chatting to a glamorous acquaintance who was perfectly at ease in a long sleeved dress.)

Excluded qualities:

Family & relationships. Children. Wealth. Good looks. Because otherwise the thread would be pointless.

(Do I really need to add lighthearted to the title? Hmm )

Those who are untouched by tragedy, Sail through life year after year with their beloved family still intact while others are dealt with the shitty stick on a regular basis.

Tlollj · 13/03/2022 12:29

People that can draw.

lljkk · 13/03/2022 12:30

Admire not envy...
People who are highly resilient, just get on with stuff I find an exhausting headache. That's neat.
People who are positive, glass half full, see opportunities not scary challenge.
People who can work well under pressure.

MrsSkylerWhite · 13/03/2022 12:30

No one, really. Happy with my lot so have never thought about it.
Probably will, now 😁

KitchenMandarin · 13/03/2022 12:32

People who don't give a second thought about their bladder on a day out.
Universe, please give me the confidence of the person downing a can of Coke in a motorway traffic jam Grin

notprincehamlet · 13/03/2022 12:34

People who are good at public speaking; people with curls; people who can say No and get on with their day; people who enjoy driving; people who can swim well; people who can play the piano; people who are fluent in a second language.

Hoolihan · 13/03/2022 12:35

@TottersBlankly

Wholesome, passionate, graceful, fun.

Ah… The first of those qualities is not one I’m familiar with in an English context, Hoolihan - so I only have a vague idea of what it indicates. What would be the opposite of wholesome?

Hm interesting - the way I've used it here about MO I'd say is the opposite of mean/sly/deceitful. I suppose it means good/kind/open.
PupInAPram · 13/03/2022 12:35

@TottersBlankly

PupInAPram - you’re on a warning … ( Grin )

This is not a thread about comparative wealth! Or possession of partners / children or That Sort of Stuff.

Pretty please?

Duly warned. Smile In that case I'll take people who are good at learning, or completely fluent in, other languages.
1winterblues · 13/03/2022 12:35

@ClariceQuiff

Anyone who can eat what they want without gaining weight.

DH - I am looking at you and the shortbread biscuit in your hand.

YES!
the80sweregreat · 13/03/2022 12:36

I wished I could write that novel or sing or draw
Can't do any of these things.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 13/03/2022 12:36

@KylieCharlene

I envy laid-back people. I'm very controlling, organised and I like things doing in good time. Due to this I always have something I need to do and I can never relax. I'm extremely highly-strung too.
Ha ha I am laidback and envy organised people like you.
Daenerys77 · 13/03/2022 12:37

People who can sing. Not necessarily to concert standard. I love music but cannot hold a tune.

Hoolihan · 13/03/2022 12:37

Maybe it's about integrity. Michelle Obama would never bitch or gossip whereas I quite like gossiping but wish I didn't 😂

SleepingStandingUp · 13/03/2022 12:38

People who can multitask and juggle everything. I'm always forgetting something or I'll start something, wander off and accidentally start something else. I can't play with the kids whilst keeping the house clean so I fail at both. I envy people who are failing at their life

MistySkiesAfterRain · 13/03/2022 12:40

Oh yes people who follow an exercise routine. I manage two weeks then think wicked I have cracked it then stop.

Also people with stylish wardrobes. Not even expensive, just put together. How have I been wearing clothes for 40 years and not cracked this.

oncemoreunto · 13/03/2022 12:55

@ParkheadParadise

People who can walk on snow and ice without falling. A couple of weeks ago it was snowing I looked out the window and my neighbour comes out of their house and walks up the street. I go out and straight away I start sliding on black ice🤷‍♀️ ended up walking on the road taking baby steps 🙈🙈 Every bloody time it's icy or snowing I can't walk.
@ParkheadParadise you need YAKTrax. They are a rubber webbing with tiny spikes that you fit over your normal shoes when it is icy. I walked over a frozen lake on them this winter.
the80sweregreat · 13/03/2022 12:58

Classy people who can pull off a look without trying : I try and it goes flat.
I just look fat / frumpy / wrong

ParkheadParadise · 13/03/2022 13:08

Thank you @oncemoreunto
I'm definitely buying them.

Purplecatshopaholic · 13/03/2022 13:24

Any woman who has sailed through the menopause without it ruining their mental and physical health, and ageing them prematurely!

Stroopwaffle5000 · 13/03/2022 13:25

People who can stay calm and not lose their temper at the tiniest thing! People who can abstain from chocolate🍫

JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue · 13/03/2022 13:33

People much younger than me, and/or less qualified who have bigger wages and houses.

Giggorata · 13/03/2022 13:41

People who have practical skills: DIY, knitting, sewing, etc. I am such rubbish at anything like that.

People who have good memories.

People who can keep weight off as they get older.

People who have long strong nails. Mine have the strength of cardboard. Throughout my life, I've tried jelly cubes, supplements, stuff you paint on, all to no avail. How I long for perfectly painted, pointed talons…

Beachbreak2411 · 13/03/2022 13:44

People with friends / family that want to be around them.

AnIconOfImperfections · 13/03/2022 13:55

The thick of skin. Those people who don’t care what people think of them. They don’t analyse conversations and wouldn’t think twice if someone didn’t reply to say a text or an email; they aren’t sensitive at all. Whereas I would think ‘that person hates me, they couldn’t even be arsed to reply’, the thick skinned would simply think that person missed the message, or they have been too busy to respond.

They always think people only think good things about them, even when they don’t! I have a friend like this. She has no self awareness and can be a cheeky fucker but she always thinks people think the best of her. The consequence of this is that she has great self esteem! I see the tiny nuances and flicker of disapproval in People’s faces. She doesn’t and just gets on with her day. Must be amazing !

Shutupyoutart · 13/03/2022 13:58

People who dont overthink everything, people who are organised and basically have their shit together, people who can say no without spending so much time feeling guilty that they should have said yes. Confident people. Plus side I don't feel the cold 😜
