What sort of people do you envy?

Because I’ve just realised I really envy people who don’t feel the cold! (Recalling a day this week when I stood shivering in a train station, wrapped in about seven layers, chatting to a glamorous acquaintance who was perfectly at ease in a long sleeved dress.)

Excluded qualities:

Family & relationships. Children. Wealth. Good looks. Because otherwise the thread would be pointless.

(Do I really need to add lighthearted to the title? Hmm )

Also people who never have to diet and are happy and confident in themselves and their healthy bodies.

I'm a size 12/14 now but having to diet as I'm healthiest as a 10/12 - I have been an 8/10 before but I just never feel 100% self confident regardless of size

CoffeeAndRedvelvetCake · 13/03/2022 11:56

People who don’t have lazy selfish teenagers

Rinatinabina · 13/03/2022 11:56

People who look effortlessly tidy - though I quite like the wild haired “my mind is on higher things than my appearance” look too - I can’t pull of either

People who appear calm and poised - I babble and talk at speed. I can’t seem to stop myself probably the anxiety disorder.

People who really don’t care what other people think - I always feel like I’m getting it wrong/did the wrong thing, said the wrong thing.

Gwenhwyfar · 13/03/2022 11:56

People who can sleep anywhere.
I second people who don't feel the cold.
People who are successful at work, but only if they have interesting jobs. I don't envy people with boring jobs even if it' brings them money and status.

Daftasabroom · 13/03/2022 11:57

Front crawl.

I'm a trained lifeguard, used to swim 1k breast stroke every day, ex professional water sports etc etc. But I cannot do that effortless front crawl, it really gets to me.

HappeeInParis · 13/03/2022 11:57

People who can talk to anyone.

ParkheadParadise · 13/03/2022 11:58

People who can walk on snow and ice without falling.
A couple of weeks ago it was snowing I looked out the window and my neighbour comes out of their house and walks up the street.
I go out and straight away I start sliding on black ice🤷‍♀️ ended up walking on the road taking baby steps 🙈🙈
Every bloody time it's icy or snowing I can't walk.

TottersBlankly · 13/03/2022 11:59

Wholesome, passionate, graceful, fun.

Ah… The first of those qualities is not one I’m familiar with in an English context, Hoolihan - so I only have a vague idea of what it indicates. What would be the opposite of wholesome?

Oh and people with good eyesight. I am very very short-sighted and am just getting to the stage where I can't read small print either. I'd love to just get up and go in the morning without fumbling around with contact lenses and making sure I've got one of my many pairs of reading glasses in my bag

nailsathome · 13/03/2022 12:02

Definitely people with a tidy house! Ours is wild and chaotic all of the time.

We are quite laid back within the chaos though so I guess that's a positive....maybe!

the80sweregreat · 13/03/2022 12:02

People who can wear heels or wedge shoes
Those things are evil , yet they stomp about so casually, looking really cool.

SwedishEdith · 13/03/2022 12:03

Didn't realise I envied so many people.
People who tan easily and can just throw on a sundress in the summer and go anywhere.
People at ease with public speaking
People who love exercise and going to the gym. I know I should do it but I feel bored even just thinking about it.
People who have their holidays sorted 12 months in advance.

Doodar · 13/03/2022 12:04

Oh I can sleep anywhere at the drop of a hat.
People with boundless energy
Laid back people
Good at DIY

sammylady37 · 13/03/2022 12:06

People who have nicely toned arms, or even just those who don’t have bingo wings, so they can wear sleeveless tops/dresses

People who don’t have bunions and thus can wear normal width shoes with a heel

People who can (seemingly) effortlessly put a meal together- I can cook quite well but need a lot of thought and preparation, whereas one of my friends seems to be able to pull a fabulous meal together at short notice

cleocleo24 · 13/03/2022 12:08

People who seem to effortlessly navigate friendships and relationships.

itisyourbirthdayKelly · 13/03/2022 12:14

People with close, supportive families.

Midgetwithaplan · 13/03/2022 12:18

As previous posters have said:

Good hair, small boobs and poise

But I'd add doers onto my list, I'm sure it was tough in lockdown, but if I had the impetus to complete even half the things I'd add to my to do list, I'd have a tidy house, perfect weight, run half marathons for fun, join a book club, go to the gym, attend hair and nail appts that I'd booked.

Instead I whinge about how I don't have any of those things, with no real desire to put in the hard work to change them

absolutelynotfabulous · 13/03/2022 12:18

People who don't overthink, don't overanalyse, don't care about whether they are carrying a few extra pounds, can go with the flow at work and can bend with the wind as situations demand.

Also those who are comfortable with who they are and don't seek validation through constant achievement.

A580Hojas · 13/03/2022 12:19

Slim people who don't have to restrict their diet or work hard to be slim.

catlovingdoctor · 13/03/2022 12:19

People with groups of friends and a very active social life.
People who own their own homes or at least can afford to rent alone.

Winnietherose · 13/03/2022 12:20

People who can sing, or play the piano. Doubly envious of those who can do both at the same time. I would love to have an amazing voice instead of a tuneless wail Grin

strawberryapricotpie · 13/03/2022 12:23

People who can sleep/wake at the hours society deems acceptable. (I've had a sleep disorder all my life and it impacts on pretty much every aspect of my life.)
People who are confident in their own skin and don't worry about what others think of them. I'm in my mid-50s and never managed this, sort of given up now.
People who can make friends easily, command respect from others and not get constantly walked all over.

(In a somewhat cynical mood today as you can tell)

Gwenhwyfar · 13/03/2022 12:24

@A580Hojas

Slim people who don't have to restrict their diet or work hard to be slim.
You might be imagining certain slim people don't make any effort when actually they do. (I accept that some people can regulate their food intake effortlessly).

Young women who are coming of age in a time when there is a tv advert regarding stopping male violence against women. Specifically in terms of public sexual harassment.

I’m thrilled for them. I just want my teens and twenties back Smile and to live them trauma free.

Hellorhighwater · 13/03/2022 12:25

Morning people. It’s the thing I most dislike about myself. Obviously I get up, I have held down a job for twenty years and I have DD in school, but I feel awful in the mornings. My mother bounces out of bed like tigger, while I stagger around like Eyore at the last possible moment and it’s truly horrible. I don’t really get it together until mid afternoon, and I’m just starting to feel really good about the day and everyone goes to bed.

Also, I’d like to be a bit taller, because chairs, sofas, kitchen surfaces and tables are all made for people who are not the same size as me. It’s not a looks thing, it’s a comfort thing.

Wouldn’t mind being able to hold my drink better. I don’t actually want to get drunk - I’d happily drink alcohol free stuff if it tasted the same - I like drinks. Specifically gin. Also, I get horrific hangovers, so I’ve more or less had to give it up.

Be nice to have better skin. My skin is fine if I don’t eat carbs. But I like them, too!
