@DovesofPeace

Thank you op.

This has been such a good thread series, I wonder if I could ask that the intelligent posters of Mumsnet to Keep it balanced? Pretty please?

It's tiring wading through the post's that seem to be on more of a " let's use this crisis to attack the evil Tories And turn, every single, move any of them make into something awful".

Please.

It's not Brexit, it's not a Political anthem And it's not the Westminders thread.

I wonder if another thread should be started specially looking at our politicians handling of this And then we could keeping this with clear information about the crisis?

Thank you

I'm confused about what you're actually asking for here. Are you asking for posters to refrain from criticising the government? That isn't going to happen. If you feel the tone of the thread is unbalanced, by all means post an impassioned defence of Patel's approach to refugees, or whatever it is you feel people are being unfair about. I'd love to read it.

I'm resisting the urge to argue about this. You raised it on a new thread, not someone else! And if someone throws a ball, I chase it.

But I won't,

Can we though from time to time go but Jeremy Corbyn?

Asking for a friend.

@dreamingbohemian.
What a fabulous Idea ❤️.

I've been wondering what very rich people would be doing who want to help.

That's brilliant I hope others follow suit.
I know for instance Leonardo DiCaprio gave 10 million dollars.

This is a wonderful way to support the refugees.
I wonder if we could organise something like that here but in nicer hotels i'e not travel lodge!!

DovesofPeace · 07/03/2022 20:21

I'm talking about framing everything through the I hate Tories lens and I hate Brexit.

Critical around specific issue's with Boris eg the hazy fog around the Russian, lords peerage, the 50 refugee stuff is obviously justified.
But much of these posts are now descending into constant critiscm and it's getting boring.

UK isn't doing nothing, apparently we have been training the Ukraine before the attacks and providing arm's.

We pushed for the Nord stream to be cancelled etc.
Just an observation otherwise just make them , Westminders do Ukraine?

dreamingbohemian · 07/03/2022 20:21

There is no way to know right now what the people in Russian-occupied eastern Ukraine actually want (and yes it is Russian-occupied, however genuine the original separatist movement, it is currently full of Russian troops).

There is no real democracy or open elections in those regions since 2014 so there is no way to know what people want.

But what we can push back against is this idea that everyone in eastern Ukraine supports separatism, or everyone in eastern Ukraine is so afraid of Azov that they want to leave Ukraine to save themselves. If that were true you would not see the people of Mariupol resisting literally to their deaths.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 07/03/2022 20:23

@DovesofPeace have you seen the Reservoir dogs poster they have released ? With the strapline 'just launched' ? I cannot believe that it is actually real, I keep waiting to hear they have been trolled by the Russians ?

dreamingbohemian · 07/03/2022 20:24

DovesofPeace Welcome to MN

You are a new arrival to a thread series that's seen 9000 posts, if you find it boring then you are free to start another thread, Ukraine for Tories perhaps.

I'd like to think so.

Today I spent all day looking at local authority sponsorship for refugee crisis. I think the same is going to happen here as before LA's will sponsor X amount of refugees. They will then be put in to NASS accommodation owned by the home office.

Ironic that what also fell in to my Inbox was the home office's guidance and launch of their "violence against women initiative"

And I though, what do you think all these women fleeing Ukraine are currently at risk of without stable and secure accommodation. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I have to say I quite agree, having a lazy Prime Minister who thinks it is more important that he has a birthday party than gets on with the job and is paid by Russia is boring.

The answer is quite simple, get rid of the Prime Minister.

With respect, I'd do the same to any government if they were being this FECKING USELESS over refugees. Thats my grip.

Its not anti-tory as such. I apologise if thats how its coming across - its me taking the piss out of utterly tripe posters, which all they are good for, is mocking. I simply want them to DO something meaningful. I don't want posters and memes, I want action. I am UTTERLY frustrated over it. The reason I've done them is precisely to demonstrate just how much arse they are and little effort they take.

As for international relations, I'm afraid that if its hampering our ability to talk to other countries than again I'd just like them to DO something about it. If Brexit is why there is a problem, I'm not going to avoid the elephant in the room to avoid upsetting people. We just need to get the fuck on with it, and stop being dicks about it full stop.

The utter BOLLOCKS of party politics today has REALLY got to me. We shouldn't have a shower of shit of a Home Security playing Hide the Visa Processing Centre or a minister dismissing KGB security concerns.

This is actually serious, and these people are treating it as a jape.

What has Priti Patel done all fucking day, for her actual job?? Its an utter utter shambles.

We should all be as angry as hell over whats happened today, no matter who we support - including actual Tory Party Members. It has been widely reported that many Tory MPs have been utterly pissed off with it privately today. Precisely because utterly shameful.

DovesofPeace · 07/03/2022 20:31

The silly, unfortunately I can't imagine NASS accommodation is going to be of decent standard's.

I know booking out nice hotels wouldn't be sustainable longer term but surely in the short term, preferable whilst people adjust to their New surroundings
And get used to the shock, process what's happened.

endlesscraziness · 07/03/2022 20:31

@cakeorwine I'm wondering if there's another board this could go on going forward? Looking for it in 'Fun and Games' to get into chat seems a bit wrong consider the subject

RedToothBrush · 07/03/2022 20:32

Should we not be getting angry at the handling of the refugee crisis?
Seriously?

If anything I don't think we are anywhere near angry enough.
I will not be shutting up if they continue to behave like this.

Simply cos its kids and the elderly most screwed by our government's callousness.

BreadInCaptivity · 07/03/2022 20:32

Polyanthus2 · 07/03/2022 20:33

Well, maybe everyone's forgotten about Boris' many misdemeanors but I'm not voting Tory at the upcoming council elections in May. Hopefully others will do the same and he still might be ousted before the next parliamentary elections.

DovesofPeace · 07/03/2022 20:33

Which poster?

I've only heard about the new coalition which is making me feel nervous tbh.

In the interest of “balance”: an unexpected thread by war journalist Oz Katerji, currently in Kyiv. Johnson’s early shipment of arms to the country means he is popular there.

[quote dreamingbohemian]This is nice:

A German multi-billionaire has rented three hotels at the Polish-German border for three+ months for #Ukraine refugees, turning meeting rooms into playrooms for children & kindergarten teachers. Kitchens will provide a breakfast & dinner buffet. Will likely cost him $5 million

ussian President Vladimir Putin has now deployed into Ukraine nearly 100% of the more than 150,000 forces that he had pre-staged outside the country before the invasion, a senior U.S. defense official said on Monday.

“That’s our best estimate right now,” the official told reporters, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Twelve days after starting its invasion of Ukraine, Russian forces have largely stalled north on Kyiv and still do not control the skies over Ukraine, increasingly relying on missile and artillery strikes.

The official said Russia had fired more than 625 missiles at Ukrainian targets.

The Pentagon ordered over the weekend an additional 500 troops to Europe, which would bring the total number of American forces there to about 100,000, the official said, as the United States seeks to guard against the war’s spillover into NATO nations.

That's a lot of US troops over here
