Anyone else planning incase they need to leave London?

So we didn't think Putin would invade Ukraine. He has. Didn't think he would bomb schools and hospitals and houses. He has.

I know the NATO etc countries are trying for it not to develop into a bigger war.

However what if it does. Surely London would be on the target list? We have camping stuff, am thinking of getting it together so we can get away from London.

Is anyone else?
@marieantoinehairnet Ok. If you are determined to see any calm on these boards as "we are alright jack", then there is not much I can say. Bowing out of this discussion as apparently any message other than "Leave London. Now!" is callous.
Crikey, you need to chill out!

hobstey · 05/03/2022 10:18

@MrPickles73 I don't say it was normal a month ago, I don't think it was.

willowstar · 05/03/2022 10:41

I live in East Anglia surrounded by RAF Lakenheath, Mildenhall and Marham. I wouldn't come this way if you are worried.

TellMeMoreHellebore · 05/03/2022 10:46

I don't think there's any safe place. Best to stay at home I would think

gogohm · 05/03/2022 10:57

Russia doesn't have enough troops to take Poland let alone march to London (hitler had a lot more popular support than putin he didn't make it to London either). If it's nuclear we will never know about it

gogohm · 05/03/2022 11:00

@LabraDabraDoo Grin

Brilliant, made me smile

Nuclear it is then!

Someone needs to take him out...and soon!

tirednewmumm · 05/03/2022 13:48

@FazedNotPhased

Unnecessary

Is it though? These sorts of posts drive misinformation and panic.

Surely someone very thick wouldn't know they were stupid Grin

I don't think op is particularly im just saying that's a daft question

AWavyLine · 05/03/2022 15:30

I thought he was going to bomb the North Sea?

TellMeMoreHellebore · 05/03/2022 15:35

I thought he was going to bomb the North Sea?
well why would he do that?

@TellMeMoreHellebore It’s been quite widely discussed. My understanding is that experts think he might not go straight for the highest number of deaths but rather bomb between Denmark and Britain as a way of using nukes without MAD (on the basis that the West might not respond with full force in this scenario).

catsareme14 · 05/03/2022 18:17

I live by GCHQ . I'm fried

LondonQueen · 05/03/2022 18:23

It would most likely be nuclear, let's face it it'll be over in seconds rather than slowly dying of radiation poisoning in a tent...

Skybubble · 06/03/2022 11:17

I will say that I am feeling more anxious each day that this all goes on, I just want it to stop as does everyone else, I don't think anyone knows how this is all going to end including Putin. Maybe op is right in thinking that having a plan in place isn't such a bad idea.

Bollix · 06/03/2022 11:47

Living in Newbury Berkshire in the 80s near RAF Greenham common I was comforted by the fact that if a nuclear bomb went off we would know nothing about it as we were a prime target.

Now living in the West of Ireland and hoping that if the worse happens we'll be in range too - as previous PP have said the thought of surviving the blast is far worse.

I feel for people that are genuinely anxious but there really is no way anyone can "plan" for this eventuality.

Bollix · 06/03/2022 11:49

I really don't think it will escalate to this level either

Skybubble · 06/03/2022 12:15

@Bollix
When I try to think of a plan I know anything would be pointless and I just hope that any pain is over very quickly for everyone. Unfortunately the current situation is out of our hands and we have a madman in control.

There is literally nothing you can do if there is nuclear war. Plans won't help you.
Greeceisthebest · 06/03/2022 13:54

Folks, please stop all this fear mongering and hysteria. It’s completely pointless because....

a) it’s very unlikely to ever happen due to MAD
b) if it did happen, having a plan would be pointless
c) you would need to have some serious hunter/gatherer skills to survive, most of the modern world would not be able to adapt and they would die out

The only thing you’re doing is making others panic and worsen mental health, which is not what we need right now.

Please get a grip. Perhaps go and read meditations by Marcus Aurelius- stoics are pretty good for helping humans cope in uncertain, difficult times.

FavouriteFortnight · 06/03/2022 14:00

I have a friend who used to work in the civil service in defence and was on The List for employees who would be sequestered in the bunker so they could continue working in the event of a nuclear strike. He thought this was worse than the alternative - the idea being you’d keep on working until you ran out of provisions, there was no plan for a way out.

fungh · 06/03/2022 14:04

@Greeceisthebest but i've stocked the bunker now! 😆

Flapjacker48 · 06/03/2022 14:06

@AWavyLine Well that is great then, other than oil rigs there is nothing to destroy! UK survives!

youhadmeatjello · 06/03/2022 14:22

I spoke to a family member today who is in a job that involves planning for this kind of thing - so countrywide disaster, and there are plans in place for many things at the moment (I’m not privy to the details) but she’s not worried at all.

This has made me feel somewhat reassured as she WILL be privy to the details but never shares specifics as she’s obviously can’t.
