Anyone else planning incase they need to leave London?

So we didn't think Putin would invade Ukraine. He has. Didn't think he would bomb schools and hospitals and houses. He has.

I know the NATO etc countries are trying for it not to develop into a bigger war.

However what if it does. Surely London would be on the target list? We have camping stuff, am thinking of getting it together so we can get away from London.

Is anyone else?

I thought Putin would invade Ukraine. Am I the only one ?
No, you're not alone. Last week, a Facebook memory popped up on my husband's feed from 8 years ago (2014 when Russia annexed Crimea). I remember the conversation my husband and I had at that point about it being the start of something that could take years to come to fruition and reveal Putin's true intent for Ukraine.

And here we are. We were horrified by the events that kicked off last week but surprised? Definitely not.

These are the new "Is there going to be another lockdown" and "They are going to close schools again!" threads

TheLeadbetterLife · 04/03/2022 10:39

It’s been obvious for years that Putin would invade Ukraine.

Why would he attack London? That’s where all the oligarchs’ money is.

Chloemol · 04/03/2022 10:41

@NoToLandfill

Well no, seeing the way they've bombed Ukraine cities it's taking days.
If NATO and Russia go to war with each other it will be over in seconds, as it will be a nuclear war

Big Bang, end of world

Why do you think NATO countries are so adamant they are not getting involved on the ground now

MaChienEstUnDick · 04/03/2022 10:41

Yep, this invasion has been in the post for years. It's been inconvenient to see it, that's all. Watched Petro Poroshenko thanking the UK for standing shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine earlier and wept buckets for how we've ignored this coming situation over the years.

But anyway.

Putin is not going to send the Red Army to invade the UK. The way we continue to centre ourselves as some kind of world power here is laughable. If there's an escalation, it will be in mainland Europe, then it will go nuclear and then even your best bell tent isn't going to save you.

Playplayaway · 04/03/2022 10:42

@FazedNotPhased

Unnecessary

Is it though? These sorts of posts drive misinformation and panic.

Best not to read the posts then.

A lot of these posts are from people who are genuinely scared, needing a bit of compassion and factual answers.

Fl0w3ry · 04/03/2022 10:42

No where in the UK would be safe anyway if he attacked London. We are such a small country. I don’t think camping in the sticks would save you.

Quite. We'll basically become a dacha nation.
Rory1234 · 04/03/2022 10:50

I wouldn’t ever want to risk my kids being alive without me in a post nuclear world - we live in London and I’d be driving further in rather than away from it so at least we’d all go together!

nope, I did too.

Exactly. The Covid-anxious have pivoted to the War-anxious.

Also rogue states such as Russia are well-known to pay people to post on forums either supporting Russia or whipping up fear among western Europeans.

OP is doing this role perfectly.

FourTeaFallOut · 04/03/2022 10:55

Putin doesn't have to lift a finger to terrorise the public here, he could just sit back and let mnetters do the job.

ThisIsGroundControl · 04/03/2022 10:55

I'm the other way, I will be heading into London the moment a nuclear war looks likely

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 04/03/2022 10:56

American Intelligence had been saying he would for weeks now. I believed them.
Alrightqueenie · 04/03/2022 10:56

How much are the Russians paying you OP to run their hysteria campaign?

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 04/03/2022 10:57

As for running off to Cornwall in a tent. Er, no I won't be doing that.

Motherofgorgons · 04/03/2022 10:57

No. I grew up with the shadow of nuclear war so am used to it and not panicking.

I thought these stupid threads had stopped by now. Yawn.
Exactly. Totally irresponsible thread.

You've been watching too many disaster movies. Why not read The Road. That might give you a few ideas about survival. Hmm

felulageller · 04/03/2022 11:03

There's plenty of space for wild camping in Sutherland.

No one will bother nuking there.

PinkPlantCase · 04/03/2022 11:04

We aren’t in London but I have considered what we’d do.

Our inlaws live rurally but unless we were to move to them permanently I don’t think we’d be able to make the journey (at the same time as everyone else) if there was a full blown war.

We also have family abroad (not in Europe) but again unless we just decided to move out there wayy in advance I can’t see long haul flights operating during an all out European war.

We have a friend who lives very close that has a basement. That’s probably the only place we could realistically go if needed.

If you’re interested in being more prepared for all sorts of things have a look in the preppers board.

Bigkingdom · 04/03/2022 11:04

Nope i’m staying put. I don’t watch the news so i’d hopefully be unaware and just die quickly with my kids. Sad thought and this is why i don’t watch doom and gloom on TV.

zoemum2006 · 04/03/2022 11:04

We’re the least likely to get bombed as Putin’s friends own half of London.

Also, we’ve applied the weakness sanctions.

We’re bottom of his list.

Hint: Find a shopping trolley with four good wheels on your way out of London.
