Anyone else planning incase they need to leave London?

So we didn't think Putin would invade Ukraine. He has. Didn't think he would bomb schools and hospitals and houses. He has.

I know the NATO etc countries are trying for it not to develop into a bigger war.

However what if it does. Surely London would be on the target list? We have camping stuff, am thinking of getting it together so we can get away from London.

Is anyone else?

The feelings many are expressing are very reminiscent of the 80’s when US and USSR were threatening each other

Thankfully then we didn’t have 24 hour news and social media this certainly intensifies anxiety

Like another pp mention best to keep yourself occupied with something you can control

Luciemaie · 04/03/2022 13:27

All those of you saying you’d drive further in to London so that your children could die with you need to give your heads a wobble

grapewines · 04/03/2022 13:28

@GeneLovesJezebel

I thought Putin would invade Ukraine. Am I the only one ?
No, you're not.

If Putin drops the bomb, I'd rather just die.

Squiff70 · 04/03/2022 13:33

If a bomb is going to fall on you, nuclear or otherwise, then I'd say a house is going to protect you sliiiiiightly more than a tent would.

Just sayin'.

HRTQueen · 04/03/2022 13:38

Our instinct would be to protect our children and our own lives and fight to live

How that would be I don’t know but I’m quite sure that is what we would do we see people suffering terribly but the still fight to live and still do their best to protect their children

TabithaTiger · 04/03/2022 13:40

@ceramicheart

Are you seriously planning to go camping to escape Putin?

This is the funniest thing I've read for ages

This comment really made me laugh which I very much needed today!

Sorry you're feeling so anxious OP. I would try and avoid the news and social media if I were you. It's horrible, but watching the 24/7 coverage won't change anything.

RedWingBoots · 04/03/2022 13:41

Yeah but there were random films on TV you could watch that showed you the outcome of a nuclear war or nuclear bombs going off. There were also "safety" films telling you to hide under tables, stay away from windows, etc.

The only thing I got from it was make sure you were in the epicentre so when you get hit you die instantly.

ChocolateIsAlwaysTheAnswer · 04/03/2022 13:41

Please. This is ridiculous. Hmm

dangerrabbit · 04/03/2022 13:44

OP I get it because I am also anxious about nuclear war (generally anxious but specifically about nuclear war, I think because I am in my 40s with news addict parents and it was always a worry when I was a child).

I cheer myself up with the comments PP have made that much London property is owned by Russian Oligarchs and they wouldn't want to destroy their precious possessions; also by listening to uplifting music, such as this Tom Lehrer song:

If it’s a war between nato and Russia l wouldn’t bother going off to camp.

I love your optimism but this really does not seem to be the case. NATO's members have failed to meet their funding commitments for years. This article in The Week offers an overview of the comparative military capabilities: www.theweek.co.uk/the-week-unwrapped/104574/nato-vs-russia-who-would-win?amp.

Motherdare · 04/03/2022 13:57

I must be twisted because this thread has actually made me laugh for the first time in a week.

HRTQueen · 04/03/2022 13:59

I watched the first 20 minutes of Threads and then was sent to bed as I became so anxious

I was half expecting ds to be anxious about the situation but thankfully he isn’t he is saddened by what he has seen and we have been able to have conversations. He told me a few girls in his class have been crying (I won’t lie I would have liked him to be a little more sympathetic to them feel so anxious)

NoToLandfill · 04/03/2022 14:00

Point taken about the tent!
I was thinking of going to northern Scotland. Don't think Putin would bother bombing there. Hence the tent.

But yes I am really worried. Will look at less news.

No, and I think that’s a bit bonkers

I have wondered why Roman is in such a hurry to sell up after being established here for many years. Maybe his mate has told him to take what he can get and come join him in the Siberian bunker before he nukes us! Mind you, it would be pretty boring for them to obliterate everyone and only have their families and friends to entertain them underground. No more instagram boasting for the younger ones for a long while!

Dont be daft. More than likely to free him up some cashflow to by cryptocurrency which is not subject to sanctions and protects his money.

Russia does not have sufficient land forces to invade western Europe. It will be nuclear.
And aimed at OUR nuclear resources . Their supplies and command structure are all located in West Scotland. We'll get nuked first, phew thank goodness. Fried alive and never knew a thing.

I won't be fighting gangs for food supplies in the Home Counties then wondering how to cook rats with no water electricity or access to google.

Optimism? I think what was meant was that nuclear bombs would be used immediately.

spleencoffin · 04/03/2022 14:20

I'd put an end to my loved ones suffering then end my days trying out as a post apocalyptic savage heroine like Charlize Theron in Mad Max

Quite fancy the idea of savagery and no rules to live by. I'd go and stab my cunt of a boss first

DiamondBright · 04/03/2022 14:23

We're off grid so I've ordered some extra gas, that's exactly as much as I did to prep for Covid and Brexit as well.

spleencoffin · 04/03/2022 14:24

A tent Grin

Fuck me this thread has made me laugh more than I've done in days

Bless you OP

toastfiend · 04/03/2022 14:28

Russia aren't going to invade here in the traditional sense. If the conflict hits the UK then it will be nuclear. Where would you go? Anywhere with a major military base would likely be targeted so that cuts out a lot of more rural places and their surrounding areas too. The rest depends which way the wind is blowing and how big the bomb is. Best to stay put and enjoy your life, especially given that this still isn't a likely scenario.
