Anyone else planning incase they need to leave London?

So we didn't think Putin would invade Ukraine. He has. Didn't think he would bomb schools and hospitals and houses. He has.

I know the NATO etc countries are trying for it not to develop into a bigger war.

However what if it does. Surely London would be on the target list? We have camping stuff, am thinking of getting it together so we can get away from London.

Is anyone else?

I love the idea of a tent vs nuclear radiation

Madmog · 04/03/2022 11:09

I'd say there government buildings they'd target as well if they were going for London, so you'd need to try and avoid certain areas!

ceramicheart · 04/03/2022 11:12

Are you seriously planning to go camping to escape Putin?

This is the funniest thing I've read for ages

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 04/03/2022 11:15

I'm suddenly picturing Nuts in May

TarcasticSwat · 04/03/2022 11:15

Yes was thinking the same OP.

Which camping site are you opting for? I would like one with good shower and cooking facilities. Also, are you taking fresh food for an English breakfast or just taking pastries? Not sure I'd be able to get through the invasion without a fry-up...

Heatherjayne1972 · 04/03/2022 11:22

but where would you go? Where is ‘safe’?

If the worst happens it doesn’t matter where you are tbh

In reality it’s unlikely to escalate that far - You’re better off staying in London

stairway · 04/03/2022 11:22

I think there are some websites which show the nuclear fall out if a bomb was to hit your city. If a nuclear bomb was destined for London I’m sure most people would try and escape.

TellMeMoreHellebore · 04/03/2022 11:54

Yes I think it's human nature to try and escape, stay alive etc even though my head says no, you do not want to survive that and then head in to a nuclear winter. Those who do survive will turn on each other too

There would be no solidarity it would be a living nightmare

PeacheyPeach · 04/03/2022 11:57

Why do people have to leave such mean replies? Honestly the op was asking a valid question and is obviously very anxious. Not every one feels blasé about this situation, a lot are worried and scared.

LabraDabraDoo · 04/03/2022 12:04

Well, we have the option of staying with my parents in remote northwest Norfolk.

To be honest, I think a nuclear winter would probably be the less challenging of those two options.

LabraDabraDoo · 04/03/2022 12:06

Apparently last week, my mum observed that her sister was concerned Putin might nuke Kings Lynn and dad replied ‘but how would they tell?’

BigWoollyJumpers · 04/03/2022 12:09

Sorry to be defeatist, but the West Country (Devon/Cornwall borders) hosts Devonport, the largest Naval port in Europe, and East Anglia is full of Royal Air Force Bases. Many other rural areas host the British Army. It really doesn't matter where you are.... Isle of Man possibly, Jersey, Guernsey.... but you'd need a boat to get there.

If we had listened to the what the people of Ukraine have been telling us for years and not turned a blind eye to Putin we wouldn’t be shocked at all

I’m not thinking of leaving London if feeling so anxious it’s best to not read the news we are safe here

NoToLandfill · 04/03/2022 12:49

Thanks for all the replies! Even the mean ones. Yes I am worrying. Maybe others think too much, evidently.
I hadn't thought of the strike on London being nuclear. That changes things somewhat. And in that case, I'm beside you in Hyde park on a deck chair. However if it's 'normal' bombs then it does make sense not to be in London.

TellMeMoreHellebore · 04/03/2022 12:51

Ah right...I had assumed you meant nuclear

Planes would not be able to get through to drop bombs directly out defences would be all over it

Greeceisthebest · 04/03/2022 13:00

Get on with your life and don’t worry about something you cannot control.

IF in the (very unlikely) event London is gonna be bombed, we’re all fucked. You’re best staying in London so it will be over quickly.

But it won’t come to this.

My advice is stay off SM/ news and distract yourself with something you can control. You will only make yourself unwell with worry.

Suzi888 · 04/03/2022 13:19

@NoToLandfill

Well no, seeing the way they've bombed Ukraine cities it's taking days.
They aren’t using nuclear warheads. If they do, poof- we’re a gonner.
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 04/03/2022 13:22

As others have said, in the vanishing unlikely possibility IT happened, we would be hot footing it towards London to get it over with as soon as possible.

This

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 04/03/2022 13:23

I think the only way he’d attack London would be nuclear

AKASammyScrounge · 04/03/2022 13:26

@GeneLovesJezebel

I thought Putin would invade Ukraine. Am I the only one ?
I did too. He kept increasing the number of soldiers . Dead giveaway.
MaryStuart · 04/03/2022 13:26

@Dynamicsloth

Russia does not have sufficient land forces to invade western Europe. It will be nuclear.
This. A tent ain’t going to help you.
