Bring your favourite flops/shoulda been hits to a new audience Smile The only rule is, they cannot have made the UK Top 40.

My first choice - Humpe and Humpe, ‘Careless Love’. The duo changed their name to Swimming With Sharks (the name of their album) in the UK, for fairly obvious reasons Grin

Me and DH sing this all the time and I've heard the kids singing it when they think we aren't listening 😂

Tightrope by Electric Light Orchestra. I marvel at their genius every time I hear it (or any of their songs)

ChickenStripper · 25/02/2022 20:00

@NannyGythaOgg

Back Street Luv by Curved Air.

It was a hit in 1971, but they were a great group who had this one hit that I have never heard on the radio since, so it meets most of your criteria and is amazingly good.

OMG I used to love this - had forgotten all about this. Just watched on You Tube .

I only discovered this was the original version about a month ago! I really like it.

John Frusciante's entire solo catalogue, but to single one out perhaps Ramparts.

I'm not sure how obscure it actually is, but I've never met anyone else who knows it! But I've loved Diamond Lights by the Boomtown Rats since I was about 8.

Love that song, not heard it in a long time.

Carly Connor who's gonna love you?

LadySlipper · 25/02/2022 20:15

When You and I Were Young, Maggie. genius.com/John-mccormack-when-you-and-i-were-young-maggie-lyrics The original poem is was written by a schoolteacher who's young wife died at 23 of tuberculosis.

I remember my Grandad singing it to my Grannie when I was a kid. I could cry every time I hear it.

Needdoughnuts · 25/02/2022 20:16

Ariel by Dean Friedman. Imagine you are 21 and in love for the first time. This song from 1977 gets me every time and I can't believe it never charted. We used to sing the chorus to each other. He the first bit, me the echo then we'd change over next chorus. Sigh. Might try and find him on FB, see if he's still a hunk.

JennyWreny · 25/02/2022 20:17

Diamonds and Rust - Joan Baez

Omg I sing this to my kids every day!!!

Naughty naughty teens are always stealing my warm hoodies even though they have their own so I wheel around the house screeching "where's me jumper!! Where's me jumper!!"

Also jilted John. Now that's a classic belter.

And 20 cents goodbye by goldfinger.
