Is anyone else monitoring the air traffic on FlightRadar24? There was an 8 minute wait to get on to the website!

Lots of military aircraft.

@notimagain I've discovered you can go back in time! Was there at 8.19pm and then vanished. Interesting...

Oh what’s that island *@TellMeMoreHellebore*?
I assume they mean Crimea. It's a peninsula (not an island) on the south coast of Ukraine.
QueenofDestruction · 24/02/2022 21:21

Very interesting, thanks.

@TheRealityCheque

well no not Crimea....i said "island". Can't really confuse Crimea with an island.

serpent island in the black sea, though god knows why its so desirable

Following cause I’m hooked on Flightradar24 at the best of times 🤫

Currently nothing over Ukraine or Belarus. Flights flying around Belarus. 🥴

BoredZelda · 24/02/2022 21:39

I had a look. Not one plane over Ukraine

Ukraine closed its airspace this morning. That’ll be why there are no planes flying over it.

I do rather suspect the reality is there will be aircraft there, it is more a case of no planes/crews are daft enough to be making themselves electronically visible to tracking sites or anybody else by way of datalink or other means.

@littlerebellion yes I remember Grin

This is actually a really interesting thread. I think I need to check this all out aswell!

There are several. I have used Marine Traffic to follow folks I know when sailing.

ipswichwitch · 24/02/2022 21:50

TellMeMoreHellebore try marine traffic. Used to use that among others to track DHs ships when he went offshore!

Hb12 · 24/02/2022 22:06

Seen a NATO plane or two leaving Malta. Plus quite a few with no call sign.

catsareme14 · 24/02/2022 22:58

How have you all got the flight patterns up ? Blue lines to show circling etc

winniesanderson · 24/02/2022 23:07

I'm new to using this but have often browsed through threads. Would anyone be able to tell me what would cause a plane to vanish? I noticed a Russian Air Force plane heading towards Belarus and thought it would be interesting to see where it went. But I accidentally clicked on something else when taking a screenshot and then couldn't find it again.

This US airforce one did a funny little squiggle earlier over norfolk, this app has always fascinated me.

it the US air force heading into Russian airspace by the look of it!

Tigersonvaseline · 24/02/2022 23:31

How does this link work.
Does it take a long time for flights to load?

TheChosenTwo · 24/02/2022 23:37

It does @TellMeMoreHellebore - is there a reason it doesn’t have a takeoff and destination? Lots don’t, but why?

Tigersonvaseline · 24/02/2022 23:46

I've got the military one but it's showing three planes
