Is anyone else monitoring the air traffic on FlightRadar24? There was an 8 minute wait to get on to the website!

Lots of military aircraft.

Someone is spoofing Flightradar. Top most watched plane at the moment is called FCKPUTIN, is circling Kyiv and supposedly an Antonov An-225 Mriya, the world's largest plane which was destroyed in its hangar early during the war.

littledrummergirl · 11/03/2022 09:12

I hope they leave this one switched on

Nice bit of work by whoever did the hacking/spoofing but I guess the sites owners might not have been too impressed…

The story about the drone that crashed in Croatia is just weird

B52 bombers near Cornwall again today. Is this the norm for these to be out and about round here?

FlightRadar24 - high traffic following invasion
CaveMum · 11/03/2022 14:01

Probably an exercise going on @elmfield4

PestorPeston · 11/03/2022 14:26

The b52s have been practising flying close for days. Round and round in close proximity. Probably refuelling training.

notimagain · 11/03/2022 14:45

No real idea what they are up to but it’s worth bearing in mind some (all?) can have a maritime role (e.g. shipping surveillance, and can amongst other things carry air to surface missile for an anti- shipping use)

I have to say I doubt it’s anything specifically to do refuelling training TBH, last time I looked B-52s don’t buddy/buddy fuel.

According to the Hungarian Ministry of Defence the military drone spent 40 minutes in Hungarian airspace. This is now being investigated by Romania, Hungary and Croatia.
There were two further cases of unidentified objects in Hungarian airspace this afternoon, but the Gripen fighter jets could not find the objects.

don't know if this is any help - we seem to have (or have had?) maritime exercises going on up here in Scotland. Normally at this time of year it's NATO Exercise Joint Warrior, but that has been put off for obvious reasons.

LilyRed · 11/03/2022 23:23

oh bugger, sorry poorly brain - should have added mentions the B52s and the NATO operation

Monitaurus · 12/03/2022 11:50

pestor re the drone in Zagreb. Someone is lying.

Papertyger · 12/03/2022 12:37

Isn't there a huge NATO excersise going on?
Or soon to be

TheSilveryTinsellyPussycat · 12/03/2022 14:56

Been watching Big Jet TV who were at Stansted to see AXY648M fly out on a humanitarian mission taking nappies, food etc. Organised and financed by Air X, whose idea it was. Luxury aircraft full with stuff. Going to Romania.

LilyRed · 14/03/2022 01:22

@Papertyger no, Usually it is the NATO joint warrior Exercise in the UK at this time of year and September/October, but not now for obvious reasons, maybe the one later in the year. If you read the RAF, Royal Navy and Army websites, they are quite clear as to what is going on and where .

I believe that smaller NATO exercises may be taking place elsewhere in the World

LilyRed · 15/03/2022 22:20

Mea Culpa - this is what is going on off the coast of Norway ...

Just tracking MJN582 which is currently taking Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe to Muscat. It's just about to leave Iranian airspace. I believe she will be transferred to another flight once in Oman and is due to arrive at Brize Norton around 10pm this evening.

CaveMum · 16/03/2022 14:43

There’s a flight scheduled from Muscat to Brize Norton but it was due to take off 15 mins ago and is now delayed until 2010 local time (4.10pm UK).

FlightRadar24 - high traffic following invasion
RainbowZebraWarrior · 16/03/2022 14:59

Yeah that would make sense Cavemum, she's not due to land in Muscat for another 25 mins. The flight must be delayed in order to allow time for her to transfer. She was probably originally expected a little earlier.

toomanyhobbies · 16/03/2022 19:30

I was just watching a Russian airforce plane heading towards Belarus disappeared. There is also an Italian jet flying towards Ukraine!

Couple of US fighter planes circling this afternoon in Romania. Is this normal?

notimagain · 18/03/2022 18:39

The pair of F-16s?

Doubt it’s that abnormal at all at the moment ATM, but it is relatively unusual to actually see their presence advertised on one of the tracker apps.
