Is anyone else monitoring the air traffic on FlightRadar24? There was an 8 minute wait to get on to the website!

Lots of military aircraft.

The other one seems to have disappeared too now?

BurntO · 27/02/2022 00:14

Yeah it disappeared

QuantumHypothesis · 27/02/2022 11:41

Despite sporadically refreshing the military version over the last hour, mine still shows the same planes in the same spot.

Looks like most planes are avoiding polish air space now too.

Hi I have FR24 … is the military version an add on of that app or another app. Thanks

No aircraft shown over Ukraine so assume location transponders are turned off.

I think that would be a very reasonable assumption…
Crankley · 27/02/2022 16:44

tghere's a US helicopter close to the west, flying from
MIELEC, no destination

Crankley · 27/02/2022 16:48

There's*

Also a Spanish Airforce plane approaching from West.

TabithaTittlemouse · 27/02/2022 16:49

Even reading this is scaring me! I don’t think I’ll be looking myself!

Crankley · 27/02/2022 16:54

Interesting, the Spanish plane is the second most tracked aircraft, tracked by 36,264.

Crankley · 27/02/2022 17:01

Flew past nearest airport in Poland and disappeared.

chicagononsense · 27/02/2022 17:05

I’m on and no issues getting on. There is a lot of US military over Romania.

chicagononsense · 27/02/2022 17:10

There has been no aircraft over Ukraine since the conflict began.

Russia has now been banned from European airspace.

Crankley · 27/02/2022 17:10

I noticed them, they are flying from US air bases in the UK and Germany - Mildenhall and Ramstein.

BabbleBee · 27/02/2022 17:14

Probably completely unconnected but I spotted the Royal Family of Monaco earlier today heading north. Also a Rossiya -Special Flight Squadron north of Cairo. Currently three of the USAF planes looping in Poland which has been the case for a few days now.

DM reports a significant increase in air traffic from both Lakenheath and Mildenhall overnight which has worried her.

notimagain · 27/02/2022 17:16

No civil aircraft, obviously.

Any military stuff there will have it’s transponder (the bit of kit that transmits data that flight trackers use) turned off.

Wasn’t watching the Spanish aircraft and can’t get the flight radar playback to function ATM but it may have disappeared if it was descending towards an airport and dropped below the floor of tracker coverage in that part of the world.

Crankley · 27/02/2022 17:17

Sorry TheRealHousewife I didn't see your question. I can see military aircraft and just logged on the website, no special addons. Just keep clicking until you find one, they are usually the larger planes.

Just clicked on a private plane going from St Moritz to Moscow, presumably some of the oligarchs are going home.

BabbleBee · 27/02/2022 17:23

@TheRealHousewife Freedar and Military Freedar are two other apps, not connected to Flightradar24

FWIW the larger military aircraft (transports, tankers and some of the surveillance types) are allowing themselves to be tracked, one reason probably being because they are spending a lot of time in airspace shared with civilian traffic.

It’s pretty obvious though, given the number of tankers regularly in holding patterns just outside Ukrainian borders - for example right know there is a KC-135 that has been circling just east of Krakow for some time - that there are plenty of fighters and other types etc in the airspace that we are not seeing, even when they are over “friendly” territory.

Crankley · 27/02/2022 17:29

Yes I saw that doing loop the loop.

Crankley · 27/02/2022 17:32

It's 4th highest tracked by 27,280. Amazing

Yellow85 · 27/02/2022 17:57

Anyone got any info on what the heck this one’s doing? Talk about long way for a shortcut. And over Russia 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sorry I can't find that one, difficult to see on the map.

It's no longer showing as Stockholm as the destination. Looks like it might be headed for Moscow.

It makes me think it's an Oligarch not wanting to say hey re headed back to Russia, but that's just my imagination. I don't know how common it is for such significant destination changes
