Anyone else? We are in the SW. Meant to be pretty windy tomorrow..

My kid's school (and other local school) terms were all scheduled to end today anyway - nothing to do with weather.

Squishmael · 17/02/2022 18:52

We can choose whether we send DS in tomorrow (South West)

Tigersonvaseline · 17/02/2022 18:57

I'm keeping mine off without a doubt.
There is absolutely nothing to risk the school run for!

I have to work outside home so DS has to go to school. I need the money. We don't all have the luxury of choice.
Lougle · 17/02/2022 19:08

South coast - one school closed, one open right now.

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 17/02/2022 19:12

Central area with amber warning. Schools still open.
Really not looking forward to the school run and dd has a long walk to school too. Sad

xmaswiththeinlaws · 17/02/2022 19:22

Yes, emailed this afternoon after school finished, all schools in the MAT are shutting as they can't guarantee the safety of pupils arriving or leaving. We are in the south (more central). Online learning officially although they acknowledged there may be power cuts so guessing they are not necessarily expecting work to be finished. Other child's school has a TD day anyway. Looking forward to an extra hour in bed.

Notanewusertool · 17/02/2022 19:24

Yep, schools closed here too. It's like a shit snow day. Or some sort of lockdown nostalgia day.

Lauren1983 · 17/02/2022 19:29

A few schools in Swindon are now saying they will close. It is a bit frustrating when Bristol council are telling schools to close and Swindon are leaving it up to individual schools especially as we are due higher winds.

HelloDulling · 17/02/2022 19:29

Closed in Cardiff. DD will have online lessons, DS has just had work set, so we can pick and choose some bits to do over HT.

BigRedDuck · 17/02/2022 19:29

Bucks here. waves at @Player456
Our schools had inset day tomorrow luckily. I've still got to go to work...

JPduck · 17/02/2022 19:30

We're shut in Somerset

AudTheDeepMinded · 17/02/2022 19:31

I spoke too soon. Shut here in Devon.

Heckythump1 · 17/02/2022 19:36

Devon here, we broke up today anyway, but all other local schools closed because of the weather warning.

Tigersonvaseline · 17/02/2022 19:41

Wax if his school shut what would happen though?

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 17/02/2022 19:43

@gorzelwummidge

Anyone in Berks with schools shut?!
I'm wondering the same. Ours are all open.
HelloDulling · 17/02/2022 19:44

No one in the South West/Wales has the luxury of choice either. The schools are closed, the doors will be locked. We cannot send them in.

HelenaJustina · 17/02/2022 19:46

Still only one closed in Oxfordshire but Buckinghamshire (we’re near the border) are closing rapidly now.

Cam77 · 17/02/2022 19:46

I thought it was half term everywhere?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 17/02/2022 19:46

I'd have to use a day's AL. I try to save it for school holidays so if school's open he'll be in.

Yes I get that. The poster I was quoting said she was keeping hers off, indicating that they weren't closed.

@Cam77

I thought it was half term everywhere?
No, lots of places aren't on half term until next week. They aren't always the same nationwide.
Livelovebehappy · 17/02/2022 19:54

We’ve just had Storm Dudley in the North yesterday. No school closures here. Just got on with it....

Tigersonvaseline · 17/02/2022 19:54

Personally I think forcing " normality" in abnormal situations is barmy!
There should be nation wide strategies to Keep school open were possible with skeleton staff, those closest to their school to Keep open for absolutely essential attendance other wise keep it low key, Keep safe, don't Risk other people's lives , put pressure on emergency services.

There's only a yellow warming for some areas though.
