Anyone else? We are in the SW. Meant to be pretty windy tomorrow..

AledsiPad · 17/02/2022 18:03

2 of mine are coincidentally on INSET tomorrow, but the others are not. No closure so far.

Tyjaro75 · 17/02/2022 18:04

Our school in mid devon is now closed tomorrow.

EveningOverRooftops · 17/02/2022 18:05

I think, given the amber and red warnings it’s a smart move for schools to close.

The potential for power cuts, flooding and road closures is incredibly high so keeping a big vulnerable chunk of the population at home is safer.

I’ve popped out to get milk and bread as the last time we had a big storm roll through our road was inaccessible for 2days whilst they dealt with structural damage from fallen trees (lots of trees around here) and chopping up several tons of trees and the localised flooding slowed down fresh food coming in.

Sad to say this is going to become the norm with climate change causing chaotic weather globally.

On a lighter note, I’m looking forward to the rolling trampoline watch as it never fails to amuse and amaze me people don’t think of tying down trampolines and Wendy houses when storms like this are common in the winter.

Closed here, oddly enough I’m on Dartmoor.

We’re expecting to lose the roof if it’s bad tbh, have been around the garden and put everything away that I can and everything that can be charged is on charge, going to cook a bunch of food too just in case!

Usernumber5253747293 · 17/02/2022 18:09

Mine were on inset day anyway. Most schools in my area have shut for the day though!

ZittiEBuoni · 17/02/2022 18:09

itsgettingweird OMG!!! ShockGrin.

Yes, we're getting a big shop in tonight rather than the usual tomorrow night so we'll be stocked up ready for any extra mouths to feed.

Lauren1983 · 17/02/2022 18:11

Still open in Wiltshire. High of 75mph expected on the morning school run. 55mph on the afternoon one. Not looking forward to it.

MinglingFlamingo · 17/02/2022 18:12

The school I work at is closed tomorrow Sw England

Fileexplorerrrr · 17/02/2022 18:12

Yes in Gloucestershire. I think the majority of schools are now 😬

A580Hojas · 17/02/2022 18:15

As a side note, what I'm finding interesting about this thread is that it's not half term at the same time over most of the UK.

DeathWinsAGolfish · 17/02/2022 18:16

School closed here in Dorset.

SedentaryCat · 17/02/2022 18:16

Only one school closed in Oxfordshire tomorrow due to the weather.

DCs currently expected to go in but I'm keeping an eye on things.
School due to finish at 12 noon so wouldn't be too much hardship if they finished early for half-term.

TheHoptimist · 17/02/2022 18:19

@silverbubbles

closed in Bristol
LA advice too and glos.
Butchyrestingface · 17/02/2022 18:20

@UrsulaBursula

I’m assuming you mean Saturday school?
Whereabouts are you?

Enquiring minds want to know.

The only times half terms are the same is the summer term, because it has to fit in to the public exam schedule.

But even then it might be different in Scotland (different exams)

BobHadBitchTits · 17/02/2022 18:27

We've had a message to say school might be closed. In Gloucester.

Chipsahoy · 17/02/2022 18:27

Last three storms were horrific for us in north east Scotland. Power down for four days twice. We are rural but even the bigger villages were down for three days during the December storm.
Hope it doesn’t hit so hard for you all in south west England and Wales.

Fimofriend · 17/02/2022 18:36

We are in West Midlands. My children's schools are closed tomorrow due to the storm. So far everyone I have spoken to says their children's school is closed too.

gorzelwummidge · 17/02/2022 18:37

Anyone in Berks with schools shut?!

SockFluffInTheBath · 17/02/2022 18:38

My DCs’ school is in Gloucestershire. The Head emailed this evening to say the school would be closed tomorrow.
AladdinPrincess999 · 17/02/2022 18:41

@UrsulaBursula someone's already started their weekend. Grin

Its half term here! Stay safe everyone

I saw an upcoming research project that is looking to recruit people to interview about power outages (2 days or longer) during the recent storms. Going by the experience of friends in NE Scotland, I thought they should probably look to run a fair amount of their recruitment efforts there.

im in wiltshire and had an email that we will be told if school is closed by 7am tomorrow. Trampoline is weighed down with concrete bags and I can lift it at all so hopefully that 4 heavy concrete sacks arent moveable in the gust!
Lost a fence panel and one is holding on but its coming down with the next gust so thats 2 new panels im getting on monday! Neighbours whole fence has come down so my dog has had lots of little walks today to have a wee as she cant go outside (the 3 houses in a row all have fences out so she'd be off!)
I hate the storms so much! I get so on edge (last night i had to sleep with headphones in and calming music playing all night) why are we having so many storms?!

Lulu1919 · 17/02/2022 18:46

Dorset schools closed tomorrow

HufflepuffPride · 17/02/2022 18:47

Right decision IMO. The storm will be raging at the exact time people will be on the school run.
