West Berkshire here. Ours is open from 10am until normal finishing time

Kite22 · 17/02/2022 20:56

I thought it was half term everywhere?

School holiday dates have always varied around the Country.
Feb 1/2 term probably more so than many holidays.

Wehadabetamax · 17/02/2022 20:57

I'm in Devon. Most of the schools here are closed, except for the one I work in and the one my kids go to 🙄

MoiraRoseRules · 17/02/2022 20:58

@gorzelwummidge@AlbusSeverusMalfoy
West Berks have three schools shut at present, my kids village school right by the Wiltshire border sent home learning home just in case and will update in the morning. It is surrounded by loads of tall trees…

Waveifyouknowme · 17/02/2022 20:58

@Chipsahoy

Last three storms were horrific for us in north east Scotland. Power down for four days twice. We are rural but even the bigger villages were down for three days during the December storm. Hope it doesn’t hit so hard for you all in south west England and Wales.
Thank you

We're in Gloucestershire and closed tomorrow. How the fuck did we cope when we didn't know, prepped just in case and got on with stuff. I don't remember schools being closed for storms before, although I do have a memory of having to leave a school building through a side window as the door couldn't be opened due to flooding.
This must be going to be one hell of a storm as it looks as though its worse than anything we've ever seen in the UK.

Just has the email. We are now closed Smile
Kitsinthehood · 17/02/2022 21:22

Our school in Gloucestershire is shut tomorrow but I'm still expected at work so having to take the day off and my boss is not happy. It's annoying, getting shafted again as a working parent just like the last two years of covid.

Shadedog · 17/02/2022 21:22

Midlands in an Amber area. School is open but I’m considering not sending them. They travel on an ancient double decker on roads just begging to have a tree fall on them. Too far to walk home if roads are closed.

Ah ok, more rural area? We are basically central Reading.

SiliconDioxide79 · 17/02/2022 21:33

All cosy here but my husband is a builder doing up a barn and his insisted he will stay at the building site. You know, in case it gets hairy and he has to climb onto the scaffolding and stop tarpaulins being ripped off. ARGHHHHH!

@littledrummergirl - side effect of Covid I think. Schools can just shift to remote learning. No more snow days either 🙁
Marzipanfruit · 17/02/2022 21:54

Trouble with relying on remote learning is that it is internet/electricity dependant. Not always possible as we found out in the N.E of Scotland during the earlier storms this year. Sure the schools will do their best but don't be surprised or cross if it doesn't happen. We were more concerned about people being safe warm and fed.....

tac10 · 17/02/2022 22:00

Schools are open tomorrow where I am in West Yorkshire and half term for us is next week. We had storm Dudley through here yesterday and it was mainly railways affected……

Saladd0dger · 17/02/2022 22:04

Schools closed in Wiltshire. Noticed some businesses post on Facebook they are closed to. Luckily it’s td day for us tomorrow

2reefsin30knots · 17/02/2022 22:04

DS, DH and my schools all not open for F2F tomorrow (3 separate schools in SW).

My school was closed for F2F by local authroity direction and we have moved to online learning. We were closed at 2.30pm with kids going home at 3 so no time to prepare paper packs of work- we are relying on electricity being up and running and families having access. DH (public) and DS (prep) just closed early for half term, no online provision.

rach2713 · 17/02/2022 22:12

Ne Scotland some schools shut here for snow. But we was also shut for they winds a few weeks back..

RoriBori · 17/02/2022 22:23

Yep school closed, but I still have to go to work a minimum wage job in a bookshop no one will come into Confused

Meadowblossom · 17/02/2022 22:25

@NinaDefoe

I can’t remember a time when schools have closed because a storm has been forecast can anyone else? Obviously snow days happen most years but not storms.
The last storm like this was 1987. I can remember it. They closed schools as the risk of school buses blowing over was too high.
Meadowblossom · 17/02/2022 22:26

@Benjispruce5

It’s half term anyway.
For you but not for everyone.
Benjispruce5 · 17/02/2022 22:37

Yes I know. Hmm

inappropriateraspberry · 17/02/2022 22:38

Closed here in Cornwall. No home schooling as pointless if power goes out! Half term starting anyway, so just an extra day at home for us.
