What's your top 3 recurring nightmares?

ImSoMagical · 28/01/2022 14:25

So I had all 3 at once last night 🤣.
1 - I'm barefoot in a public toilet
2 - I'm swimming far out in the ocean terrified of fish and sharks
3 - a tiger and/or lion is in my house.
Think I'll go check up what that means......

Fucking elevators malfunctioning/out of control. Also, desperately trying to pack a suitcase but there’s just too much stuff/not enough time. I would pay good money to never have to dream again. Sometimes I’m actually put off falling asleep because I have vivid dreams every night.

loveattheFair · 29/01/2022 07:35

Has anyone tried to wake themselves up whilst their dreaming? Like you know your asleep but your minds telling you to wake up because it's getting too scary.

Anyway,

1- Being trapped in a building with lots of doors and narrow corridors and all the doors I go through lead me back to the same place.

2- Teeth becoming loose/cracking/falling out.

3- Pulling lots of thick, stringy stuff from my mouth. Similar to lots and lots of chewed up bubble gum. I can never get it all out.

TheAnswerIsDontThinkAboutIt · 29/01/2022 07:45

@ZittiEBuoni

Oh, you've reminded me of the absolute worst, which is that I murdered someone in the past but got away with it and something happens that brings it all out into the open. I've only had this a handful of times but it is so vivid and the horrible feeling from it hangs around me all morning.
This is mine! I was reading along, wondering if anyone else would post it. This is it exactly.

The sheer RELIEF when I wake up and realise I haven't killed someone.

Karwomannghia · 29/01/2022 07:49

Intriguing how many of us have the disgusting/broken/ exposed toilet one! That’s my main one.

Also falling off something very high either in a car or bus or just from standing up on a cliff. I start to fall and then think I can’t believe this is actually happening.

The exam one.

AltheaVesr1t · 29/01/2022 08:15

I had no idea the 'neglected, dying animal' dream was common, I have been having this for years. Sometimes it's an animal I know, sometimes an unknown animal, it could be birds, cats, fish - even a lion once. I find these dreams very distressing.

I also have regular zombie apocalypse dreams.

I have these dreams about animals and they are distressing. I once dreamed that I had a starving lion in the spare room. I often dream that I have. while hutch of full rabbits i have forgotten about.

And yes, the zombies! I love them though.

I had a dream last night along those lines, but I was getting rid of the other survivors by going round and stabbing them in their heads. I was VERY vivid.

forlornlorna · 29/01/2022 08:29

Stealing the family car (I can't drive) then driving to town in it perfectly fine. But then can't remember which ones the brake, or it won't stop.

Trying to dial 999 but I can't find the numbers, or my fingers won't work etc.

Being invisible if I hold my breath. I like that one

Yes definitely. Sometimes I can just tell myself it's obviously a dream and I can wake up or move on. Sometimes I have to scream and scream until I wake up, or more likely wake DH up with my weird scary moaning and he shakes me awake. Poor man.
Sloughsabigplace · 29/01/2022 09:19

I have to wake myself up too sometimes. I’m my dream, I rock myself, hit myself, scream, try to “move” my body in the real world.

Usually when I wake up l am am panicking but moving only minimally in the real world.

Apart from once where I gave ex h a back eye Blush

nannybeach · 29/01/2022 14:58

The reason why you can't run away in your dreams is because your body has designed it that way to stop you acting them out. I don't do it now,but up to moving here 10 years ago,I sleep walked and ran to get away from whatever was chasing me. It was a miracle I didn't hurt myself!

EishetChayil · 29/01/2022 15:43
  1. I'm rushing to pack my bags to get to their airport to move countries.
  1. I'm on a plane that is flying dangerously close to the ground, but nobody else seems concerned.
  1. I've left my baby somewhere and forgot where she is.
Sarahlou252 · 29/01/2022 17:45

My recurring ones when I'm anxious.
I'm in a caravan, there's a helicopter/plane outside with headlights looking in I can't get the numerous windows and curtains closed fast enough without them seeing me. I can hear them outside. When the windows and curtains are closed they go.
Similarly. I am in my house. When I go out of the door the planes swoop down and I have to race back to the door to get in and be safe.
Get them so regularly theyre like a film I've seen many times.
I'm guessing it's me wanting to keep my inner self private, I'm quite shy by nature.

100problems · 29/01/2022 18:21
  1. I can't shut and lock my patio door and am constantly worried about being broken into
  1. I am given a tarantula in a box, and the tarantula follows me everywhere. We are then locked in my mother's dining room where many others appear.
  1. There is an annexe to my house with several more rooms that are not used. Even when I start to use them, they remain unused.
  1. I am watching children in a swing park and then there is a nuclear blast and they are all wiped out. This last one is particularly weird as I had it from age about 13 (now over 50) and was transfixed when it appeared almost exactly as dreamt in a Terminator film.
willweevergetthere · 29/01/2022 18:38
  1. Constipation - where I just can't poo and it always involves weird open plan toilets.
  2. Out of control car. Driving slowly but the brakes just won't work

There are my only 2 at the moment

IcyWinterWonderland · 29/01/2022 20:05
  1. Teeth falling out
  2. Falling
  3. Being back at school
OhWhyNot · 29/01/2022 20:34

Being back with an ex boyfriend

Sitting on the tube and suddenly I’m aware I have no clothes on

Peeing in public the toilet is in public too recently it was on the stage at Wembley stadium, the set started sooner than I expected Confused I was a backing dancer (50 and 3 stone overweight not sure who’s backing dancer)

thekaratekid · 29/01/2022 20:35

Every year around "exam" season (easter onwards basically) I get horrible dreams about not having revised, revised the wrong thing or missing an exam. I wake up panicking about revision and then feel immense relief when I realise that's all in the past. I did well in exams, but obviously the whole experience has become deeply embedded in my brain. Hmm

I also get the horrible running late but can't get there dreams. Can't get dressed, arrive in wrong location, getting lost...awful.

Teeth falling out is another one....or the feeling of a singular tooth falling out and then my tongue feeling the empty socket. Like when you lose a tooth as a kid....really weird.

Babyroobs · 29/01/2022 20:37

I'm pressing the brakes on the car but nothing is happening and it's just not slowing down.
My teeth all start to wobble one by one, I'm frantically trying to get to a dentist but they are all closed or can't see me, my teeth then start falling out one by one.
I also have the trying to dial 999, but my phone won't work or I can't get the numbers right !

Inkanta · 29/01/2022 20:48
  1. Using communal toilet area with no walls between toilets.

2.Cannot complete exam questions and running out of time.

  1. A house that's mine with loads of strange rooms. Most I don't use.
Inkanta · 29/01/2022 21:07
  1. Front teeth are loose and pushing them back into the gum.
  1. I'm on a very high narrow ledge and don't want to fall off.
  1. Driving up a steep vertical road hoping car doesn't flip backwards.
spiderlight · 29/01/2022 21:20
  1. Desperate for a wee and can't find a clean toilet, or can only find one without a door, or there's a massive queue, or there's someone I know outside the door talking to me so I can't go.
  1. Trying to run away from something and my legs get heavier and heavier.
  1. Need to make an urgent phone call to resolve some kind of emergency, usually with an audience, but my phone keeps crashing or I can't remember how to type the numbers in.
spiderlight · 29/01/2022 21:21

(I'm slightly relieved to see that so many of us have the toilet nightmare!)

buddy79 · 29/01/2022 21:27

So fascinating!!

I have lost my children or they are in danger I can see but cannot reach / warn them.

I have done something awful - usually had an affair or left my husband for someone awful and I realise I have made a terrible mistake and ruined my life. I had one version of this where I had murdered someone. Such a bloody relief to wake up!

Teeth falling out etc.

Not recurring but I have also had the one being in an out of control car but in the back seat, I only had it once but remember it so well as I woke utterly panic stricken, my Mum was in the back seat too and I was desperately trying to protect us both.

SeeminglyOblivious · 29/01/2022 21:28
  1. Tidal wave, like the one in deep impact.
  2. Being in the back of a car, seeing a wall approaching and knowing we're all going to die...then a white flash at the point of impact and waking up.
  3. Being stabbed by my dad, repeatedly whilst my mum screams. I have no idea why, my dad was lovely and there's no abuse/trauma or family drama or anything in my background.
SeeminglyOblivious · 29/01/2022 21:31

Lots of teeth dreams on here...i think teeth are supposed to symbolise money? So teeth falling out is some kind of financial worry or strain.
