What's your top 3 recurring nightmares?

ImSoMagical · 28/01/2022 14:25

So I had all 3 at once last night 🤣.
1 - I'm barefoot in a public toilet
2 - I'm swimming far out in the ocean terrified of fish and sharks
3 - a tiger and/or lion is in my house.
Think I'll go check up what that means......

That my tongue is so swollen I have to bite chunks off and spit out so I can breathe. Always wake up with a mega dry cardboard mouth after weird.

Kudupoo · 28/01/2022 16:57
  1. Trying to have a conversation with ex-boyfriend and his family
  1. Desperately trying to call for help on a phone that I can't dial the numbers on/make connect/get anyone to hear me
  1. Massive bodies of water, waves, ice, whales/sharks, long journeys across sea, tsunamis. I nearly daily dream of water in some form it's so bizarre.
RedToothBrush · 28/01/2022 17:00

@ALongHardWinter

1) All my teeth/hair falling out. 2) Going into an exam and not having done any revision. 3) I'm desperate for a wee but can't find a useable toilet anywhere, every one I find is in an absolutely disgusting state,or there's no door on the cubicle. Inevitably when I have this dream,I wake up busting for a wee.
I don't have 1) and exams never bothered me but i do have a reoccurring nightmare about handing in essays on time for a deadline and i have the exact same dream as 3.

I suspect 2 and 3 are really common.

captainmajor · 28/01/2022 17:01

1/ I'm running and running as fast as I can away from a big fat woman in a hairy brown hacking jacket who is on a big bay horse , it's chasing me and bearing its teeth which are yellow I manage to roll under the barb wire fence just in the nick of time as it snaps at me

2/ I'm writing notes for a dressage judge and the rider gets to almost the end of the test and I haven't written anything and cannot remember what was said by the judge to keep up

3/ I'm on an ironing board with a friend and it's being towed around a city - we are site seeing like it's an open top bus but it's going pretty fast

Distant01 · 28/01/2022 17:08

1 I'm in a toilet with low walls and everyone can look in.
2 I'm in my works canteen in a flimsy nightshirt and trying to cover myself up.
3 I go out with my very hairy legs on show Grin
I dread to think how these translate 😳

UserBotTrending · 28/01/2022 17:10

@KimWexlersPonyTail

1. Going on holiday and ending up with no clothes not even knickers
  1. Teeth falling out and also part of my face falling off
  2. Needing a toilet but everytime i find one its broken or too filthy to use , always wake up bursting!
My mum has dream 3 and she is quite anti emotion imo. Bit repressed. Never sits with uncomfortable truths long enough to deal with them. It's staplegun on the game face every day.
UserBotTrending · 28/01/2022 17:11

For context she thinks im too emotional.
I have never had that dream though

Distant01 · 28/01/2022 17:13

@PinkFizz1

That I am trying to phone the emergency services and for some reason I can't dial 999?

Oh @newbathroom I have this regularly too!!

I also have this dream. Either I keep pressing the wrong numbers or I get through to what I think are the police but I know they're baddies.
Lellochip · 28/01/2022 17:14

Nothing original here, only recurring ones are teeth crumbling out and filthy/strangely public toilets (that no one else in the dream seems to mind??)

mrsfeatherbottom · 28/01/2022 17:15

Not really nightmares but I often dream the following:

  1. trying to find a toilet and if I do, I'll find there is no door or some other reason I can't use it

  2. I need to contact someone urgently by phone but can't. In the past, it involved pay phones, now it tends to be smart phones that I can't get into or can't find the right app

  3. teeth breaking and/or falling out

ladygindiva · 28/01/2022 17:16

1 Trapped in an empty building with an angry horse
2 Going on stage to perform in a play / give a speech / play a piece ( I'm a musician) I've never even read let alone rehearsed
3 teeth becoming wobbly and all falling out

ConstantCougher · 28/01/2022 17:22

I keep having this reoccurring dream that we are at war! A nuclear type bomb has been dropped and me and DH have to decide whether to kill the DC or let them slowly die painfully as we do and hope they die before us. Honestly it’s absolutely devastating and I wake up so so upset. It’s only been happening the last couple months but this lot with Russia has me worried!!

The other one since childhood is my teeth crumble and fall out and I have to spit bits out.

MouseholeCat · 28/01/2022 17:24

1- I'm doing my A-Levels and haven't completed a bunch of the course work or revised for exams.

2- My husband is cheating on me or leaving me.

3- I'm the only person in the world that can defeat an evil villian. Think Sauron, Voldemort etc.

NotPennysBoat · 28/01/2022 17:27

Teeth falling out
Husband leaving me for someone else
Not preparing for an exam

QueefofSheena · 28/01/2022 17:27

I have the pee one too
A version of the naked one where I have no bottom half on
A constant one I have during times of anxiety is getting on the wrong train, going a few stops then not being able to get back so I end up in a strange place

Violetparis · 28/01/2022 17:28
  1. Being in an emergency situation and being unable to dial the right number for help.
  2. One of my best friends moving away.
  3. Not revising for an exam.

Also have the teeth falling out one too.

NotsoNeurotypical · 28/01/2022 17:29

I've lost something and can't find it, the harder I try and find it the more lost it becomes
One of my children has run off or been kidnapped and I am trying to find them and can't
Other ones on a similar vein are that I am lost, I can't find my house anywhere, etc.

All my teeth falling out

evtheria · 28/01/2022 17:36

I only have 2, and I’ve had them since I can recall, since I was very little. Everything else (masked intruders breaking into home, people dying, being chased, etc) does not faze me... if I have these two then I will wake myself up and try not to fall back asleep.

  1. I am up in a small, high mountain village. It is night but the moon is full so everything is illuminated and in shades of indigo. The village looks alpine-ish, and I am surrounded by people. Everything looks like paper cutouts (think animated old Tim Burton film?) and the people are clearly paper people with very round moon-like faces and frozen expressions. It is the middle of the village square, everyone is in a hurry walking to and fro, and I’m just stood in the middle listening to the sound of paper shuffling. Some people have fallen and I can see their flat paper faces getting trampled on.

  2. I am in a bright white, endless space with no walls, nothing... except two enormous hands suspended in front of me. They’re massive, giant-sized hands, and are busy tying a knot in a super-thin red thread. The fingers are thick and clumsy, and I am unable to look away as I watch the knot slowly coming together and tightening in the middle of the thread. (I don’t know what happens after this, I hate this dream and will wake myself up!)

Would love a psychologist to explain these to me, always wonder why my child’s brain came up with these for nightmares!

LoveFall · 28/01/2022 17:38
  1. I am a long way from home and can't find my car. I just walk and search for hours.
  1. I am in the office building where I work and I can't find anyone I know, or my office. Some change management consultants have been hired to switch everything around and impose impossible productivity standards.
  1. My parents, who both died in 2013, are still alive except I have taken all their money. (I was executor of their estates.)

I also sometimes have the one where I have an exam and haven't gone to class, never mind study.

#3 is a very bad dream that never fails to really upset me.

PattyPan · 28/01/2022 17:38

I used to have ones about my teeth falling out. The dreams would be different each time, different locations/scenarios etc but the common feature would be my teeth falling out. Never had any other recurring ones and I haven’t had those for a few years now.

JorisBonson · 28/01/2022 17:39

This is really outing but, for as long as I can remember (30 odd years), I've had a nightmare about Paul Shane from Hi De Hi shouting at me.

Mt parents could never understand why I'd cry when he came on the telly.

Jobhunterhelp · 28/01/2022 17:40
  1. Being told I hadn't passed my degree as needed to take a further exam
  2. Being outside in just a towel.
  3. Being outside barefoot.
maddiemookins16mum · 28/01/2022 17:42

Seeing a plane crash on a runway I am driving alongside of (actually to be specific, a Monarch airlines plane at Larnaca airport). Long story.

PattyPan · 28/01/2022 17:44

Barefoot outside is a nightmare? What about in the garden or beach? Confused
maddiemookins16mum · 28/01/2022 17:47

Pressed too soon, my others involve teeth but my worst is my Mum not actually being dead but that she ‘woke up’ after I’d left the hospital and the Drs were too scared to tell me. So we had the funeral etc, sold her house and they put her in a home (from which she ‘escaped’) and had been looking for me for years when I found her walking barefoot on the high street. But she had by now developed dementia.. It’s such a sad, horrible dream and deeply upsets me. I’m actually crying writing this and making mash at the same time.
