What's your top 3 recurring nightmares?

ImSoMagical · 28/01/2022 14:25

So I had all 3 at once last night 🤣.
1 - I'm barefoot in a public toilet
2 - I'm swimming far out in the ocean terrified of fish and sharks
3 - a tiger and/or lion is in my house.
Think I'll go check up what that means......

  1. Teeth falling out
  2. Elevator falling- so weird, I even “feel” like I’m free falling
  3. I’m at school and my a levels are next week and I haven’t been going to class

A bonus 4- Going out in my underwear or naked and feeling ok, then everyone starts looking at me and I then realise I should be wearing fucking clothes

JuergenSchwarzwald · 28/01/2022 17:53

When my ds was younger I used to have recurring anxiety dreams about not being able to get home in time to collect him from nursery or school eg with delayed trains, missing trains etc.

As he got older and didn't need collecting anymore, it changed to being late for parkrun or not being able to find my way around the parkrun course.

I've also had the teeth falling out one.

DH has the exam one.

ZittiEBuoni · 28/01/2022 17:54

Malfunctioning lift

Massive low-flying planes exploding in the sky

Desperately trying to call emergency services but unable to type 999

nannybeach · 28/01/2022 17:55

Driving uphill in car,and it disappears from under me. Living in a few rooms in an absolutely huge house, with so much wrong with it,no stairs to get upstairs.Busting for the toilet and it has no door.

ShadowKitty · 28/01/2022 17:57
  1. Teeth falling out.
  2. Driving at speed - but from the back seat and I can't reach the brakes or steering wheel.
  3. I'm at airport and I have forgotten my passport, handbag and all my luggage.

So interesting how common these themes are!

the80sweregreat · 28/01/2022 17:58

The teeth one is scary. I've had this dream so many times !

tinkywinkyshandbag · 28/01/2022 18:05

I'm getting married again but in the same dress which is always tattered and dirty.
I'm in a toilet but there's something wrong with it, it's dirty or the door doesn't close or something.
There is a dead body concealed somewhere in the foundations of my house or rolled up in a carpet in the wardrobe!!

Seeing this list makes me think I must have got some serious stuff going on but I think I'm really quite normal!

tinkywinkyshandbag · 28/01/2022 18:06

@CrimbleCrumble1 I've had that one too

LadyCatStark · 28/01/2022 18:07

Someone in may family/ a friend has murdered someone and I have to help hide the body and keep up with the secret.

I need to get ready to go somewhere but things keep happening and I get no closer to leaving.

I also have the one where I need the toilet and they’re all filthy and disgusting. I get this when I have period pains.

MilkWasABadChoice · 28/01/2022 18:09

1 Exam I haven’t revised for
2 Running from danger but can’t run properly
3 One of the children drowning

Drowning is the worst and most frequent. Awful.

(Wtf is it with all the teeth??!)

StillMedusa · 28/01/2022 18:11

The toilet one.. desparate for a wee and the loos are filthy, or I can't get in. Thank God I've never yet wee-d in these dream loos...just wake up bursting!

My children dying. My DS1 is in Australia and dreamed he had died in a car accident.. my dream was so logical, I was ringing the consulate to arrange to fly his body home, and I wanted to see it even though he was mangled. I woke up sobbing and had to fb video call him there and then ..it was so real.

Losing my dog. (also makes me wake up sobbing!)

Entschuldigung · 28/01/2022 18:13

1 Mouth is full of some kind of goo that I can't get out
2 Teeth breaking - No idea this was a common one
3 In an open plan office at work and suddenly realise I've forgotten to put a top on so I'm completely topless but trying to pretend nothing's wrong

I had one awful dream once, thankfully not recurring, where I was on the back of the ferry with my daughter (aged about 5 at the time) when she suddenly falls off the ferry. I'm trying to decide whether to jump in or try to get help by which time I've lost sight of her.

Brakebackcyclebot · 28/01/2022 18:16
  1. I have to do my finals again but have done zero revision
  1. I am starting uni again and have to live in halls with a load of really drunk 1st years but I am 50.
  1. I have missed a ferry and have to row out to catch it up - and a big red hand comes out of the sky and pulls me under the water..
  1. I am bouncing on a giant net in a warehouse. It bursts and I fall out of the bottom.

Sometimes I wonder if I am weird.

SilverOtter · 28/01/2022 18:17

That I am in a group of people that have been sort of rounded up somehow, and then some other people start killing us. Usually I'm one of the last to be shot after trying to run away. Usually they carry on shooting my body after I'm dead, and I can see this sort of like an out of body experience.

This dream has recurred all my life, but is getting less and less frequent the older I get. In fact, I can't remember the last time now that I actually had it.

Sloughsabigplace · 28/01/2022 18:18

ooo, I also get one where I’ve killed people and I’ve hidden the bodies and I’m terrified of getting found out.

Sometimes I can even smell they decay.

IckyPop · 28/01/2022 18:19

@ALongHardWinter

1) All my teeth/hair falling out. 2) Going into an exam and not having done any revision. 3) I'm desperate for a wee but can't find a useable toilet anywhere, every one I find is in an absolutely disgusting state,or there's no door on the cubicle. Inevitably when I have this dream,I wake up busting for a wee.
I have the teeth falling out one, but usually when I'm really not happy in life. Your no 3 toilet one is word for word the same as mine. The location might change - restaurant, festival, campsite whatever. But the feeling is exactly the same.

I also get the being naked in public. It's like it seems normal at first then I realise being naked in town is not normal and I get really anxious and embarrassed Blush

StruggleStreet · 28/01/2022 18:19

The most common recurring themes for my nightmares are:

  1. Zombie apocalypse (Dream me is often pretty bad ass in this one)
  2. Being chased by a lion or some other kind of big cat (had this one a lot in both of my pregnancies)
  3. Move into a new house and everything starts falling apart (okay that may not be that scary but I find it really stressful)

The other recurring dream I have is that I’m trying to catch a flight (always seems to be to or from Australia) and I’m going to miss it for some reason. Sometimes I make it, sometimes not. Would love to know the relevance of that one.

TenThousandSpoons · 28/01/2022 18:19
  1. Needing the toilet but looking in each cubicle to find progressively worse states in each - filthy, no door etc. usually ends with me having to go in one with no door and other people come in and see me.
  2. Teaching a class but haven’t prepared the lesson - all the kids start coming into the room and I start making up something. Then the head teacher or an inspector comes in.
  3. I’m flying by flapping my arms. It could be a good dream or sometimes someone is chasing me and I keep going lower and lower so they nearly reach me and I have to flap harder.
mumofEandE · 28/01/2022 18:19

When I am stressed I have the same recurring dream- that I haven't revised for an exam or haven't read a book I needed for a class!
I left Uni nearly 30 years ago!

TenThousandSpoons · 28/01/2022 18:20

Ooh one more is my cat biting me. Probably this is more frequent than my flying dream these days

Indoctro · 28/01/2022 18:20

Teeth falling out

ToofFairy · 28/01/2022 18:23

I once read that dreams about losing teeth are a sign of fear of aging.

IckyPop · 28/01/2022 18:27

@ToofFairy

Oooh interesting. I've read before that it means you are unhappy/dissatisfied in life, that you need to make a change. It is interesting how common some of these are though.
DarleneSnell · 28/01/2022 18:27

Teeth falling out. Glad it's not just me!

Late or missed uni assignment even though it's years behind me.

Weirdly, my old rabbit neglected in a hutch, we've forgotten about him and left no food, the cage is all nasty. Strange as he's been gone years after a long life.

"Apocalyptic" types - asteroid about to hit, plane crash, bombs going to drop, volcano etc. I never seem to die though.

Snozzlemaid · 28/01/2022 18:29

Anyone else not have nightmares?
I honestly can't remember having them at all.
