What's your top 3 recurring nightmares?

ImSoMagical · 28/01/2022 14:25

So I had all 3 at once last night 🤣.
1 - I'm barefoot in a public toilet
2 - I'm swimming far out in the ocean terrified of fish and sharks
3 - a tiger and/or lion is in my house.
Think I'll go check up what that means......

Another one with the filthy or unusable toilet dream, although I don’t always wake up desperate for the loo.

Others are

  1. Being back at my old job trying to control a situation and no one will listen, or fill in paperwork and it’s changed to some insane procedure that i just can’t figure out.
  2. About to get on a plane and it’s a bonkers series of obstacles to get through the terminal and then when I’m on the plane it always does a crazy manoeuvre
  3. I’m driving but the brakes don’t work, and I can’t stop in time or I have to pedal the accelerator and the clutch like I’m on a bike to make it move faster.
BettyOBarley · 28/01/2022 22:13

Teeth falling out

Being in or very near a plane crash

Something like a car crash and at the point of impact I wake up with a huge gasp.

BurntO · 28/01/2022 22:17

It comes down to one for me. Any scenario, any catastrophe, and I can’t call for help. Either my phone won’t function, I have no signal, 999 is on hold or I get cut off.

RedRec · 28/01/2022 22:19

Trying to catch a train or get somewhere and constantly being thwarted, and never getting there.
Realising I am taking an exam tomorrow and haven't done any revision.
Trying to drive an out of control bus from the top deck.

BurntO · 28/01/2022 22:20

Ooo I’ve also had some where I am laughing so hysterically I will die. For example I am lying on a motorway and laughing so hard my body is weak and I cannot stop, I cannot get up, I can’t do anything. Had similar where a tiger is chasing me

Viviennemary · 28/01/2022 22:20

I have the needing a wee dirty toilet or toilets with no door dream
Getting lost
Packing a suitcase and not fitting everything in it that I must take home

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 28/01/2022 22:21

I'm in a play and about to go on but don't know any of the lines and I'm trying to learn them desperately.

The other one is that I'm late for school or work and no one will give me a lift, or I can't find anything to wear and it's getting later and later.

wandawaves · 28/01/2022 22:21

@PollyCreo

No.4 - I'm trying to defend myself against an attacker but can't kick or punch them - it's like my limbs are stuck in mud.
I get this one all the time! It's so frustrating.

My most often recurring one is being chased relentlessly, through people's backyards and I'm constantly jumping over fences to escape. I run very fast and easily leap over the fences, but it just goes on and on and on and I find it exhausting.

My 3rd most common one is of course, the teeth crumbling.

Weredone · 28/01/2022 22:24

@DarleneSnell you’ve reminded me I’ve had ones where they’ve multiplied too and I keep finding more and more hamster babies. I desperately trying to look after them but I can’t keep up and I keep losing them. I’d love to know what it means too!

Weredone · 28/01/2022 22:25

@BurntO the laughing one is SO strange!! Maybe you fear losing control? Or loss of control making you weak?

ShinyPikachu · 28/01/2022 22:29

Teeth falling out

DH cheating on me

Weird monsters/zombies/other supernatural weird things that I have to hunt down but also hide from in various ways.

louderthan · 28/01/2022 22:30

Realising I've only got a day to revise for GCSEs/A-levels/finals/write dissertation

Teeth falling out

Looking for something and being unable to find it with the sense that every second counts

BurntO · 28/01/2022 22:32

@Weredone I suffer from anxiety so makes sense Grin I remember laughing if I felt on the spot as a kid

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 28/01/2022 22:34

@Weredone you’ve just reminded me I also have that dream about a pet hamster. The hamster died many years ago but I dream she’s just been neglected in a filthy cage and the guilt is crippling.

I’ve just remembered another one; I go back to my childhood home and the back door won’t stay closed and locked and people keep getting in, or the house has drastically changed.

JSL52 · 28/01/2022 22:34
  1. Have moved house and hate it.
  2. Trying to get home in the dark , running but not moving.
  3. Partner ends relationship without and ghosts me.
Weeteeny · 28/01/2022 22:35

Teeth crumbling and falling out
My mouth jammed with something and I'm pulling it out like strings and strings of chewy stuff and I can never actually get it all out
I'm trying to get out my childhood family house to go to school and I'm missing pieces of uniform and I can't find them bit by bit and time is running out

Rubyupbeat · 28/01/2022 22:35

1, trying to find a clean toilet, with a door, as busting for a wee.
2, Hiding from something that is looking for me (a regular one from childhood)
3, really late for school and know it's really important to get there for exams (I am 57 for goodness sake!!)

And many more

I never have good dreams Hmm

Rubyupbeat · 28/01/2022 22:38

Another regular one is flying away from something really awful after me, in my dream, I know it's a dream, so I can make myself fly.

thistimelastweek · 28/01/2022 22:41

Teeth falling out. And there's a lot of teeth.

Being stuck in a precarious spot; can't move forwards or backwards.

Having to get somewhere and it's ridiculously hard, like wading through treacle.

Bwix · 28/01/2022 22:51
  1. Desperate for a wee, in a maze of bathroom where I keep on opening cubicle doors and finding a shower or a completely solid toilet or a hole where a toilet should be or a washbasin... or an empty tiled room.
  1. Go out and realise I'm not dressed or wearing something massively massively skimpy.
  1. The Part III dream (this is a Cambridge maths course). It's just me and the desk and the exam paper and I can't read the symbols - it's notation I don't recognise and none of it makes sense. I keep on turning pages and I can't see anything I recognise.
Morgan12 · 28/01/2022 22:51

I have this exact dream about my school uniform too!
swapsicles · 28/01/2022 22:56

Trying to get somewhere but I keep falling or my legs just don't work so takes forever!
Being topless at work
Needing the loo but they are all small so can't shut door or have little walls

StarryGazeyEyes · 28/01/2022 23:04

So much commonality - it's really interesting. I have some of these - the toilet one is a regular (never connected with needing a wee though), and also driving but not in control. Other regulars are:

  1. In my house but there's a helicopter/gunship appearing in the windows, and wherever I go I can't hide from it. Terrifies me.
  2. I have a flat that i've forgotten about (usually in my university town) and have to go and clear all my stuff out of it before the landlord realises i'm still there (30 years on!). I never want to leave anything behind, and i'm scared they'll catch me in there.
  3. I can flap my arms and fly but struggle not to crash into pylons. Always disappointed when i wake up and can't actually elevate!
  4. I'm in a city which starts off familiar but then I get lost and have no money or phone and don't know how to get home or get help.
  5. Usually a house i've known, but there's always an extra floor or wing that is haunted or holds something terrifying.

I realise that's more than 3 but I dream a lot!

AudTheDeepMinded · 28/01/2022 23:05

Teeth falling out.
Back at Uni for first week and don't know vital info about where I should be etc.
In a car that loses control and I can't drive it (sometimes the driver has collapsed and I am in the back seat). This has decreased significantly since I learnt to drive though.

Loobz · 28/01/2022 23:14
  1. Crawling around a tunnel and not being able to get out (I am seriously claustrophobic)
  2. Teeth falling out.
  3. Finding out that my degree isn't valid because I failed the final assessment.
