Do you do laundry on Christmas day?

Sorry a bit of a dull thread!

Just wondering if other people stick a wash on? I always seems to have loads of laundry...if I have a day where I don't do any, I find it really piles up and I end up with a backlog. On the other hand, it feels totally shit to do washing on Christmas day! What do you do?

I will be this Christmas day as my youngest has just puked all over his bed 😑.

DobbleBobble · 25/12/2021 00:06

I wash a load of clothes every day for family of 4, but Christmas and sometimes birthdays I have a day off as a treat to myself. It doesn't build up as the kids just wear their Christmas pyjamas all day. But it's not that difficult to put a wash on and if I was going to be stressed by not doing then I would.

Nanalisa60 · 25/12/2021 00:54

It depends on the weather, if it’s dry with some wind then will put one on, if it’s raining at day then no.

I've put a wash on of clothes I wore yesterday plus bathmat and pillowcases. Feeling smug. 🤭

gofg · 25/12/2021 02:11

I wash towels after every 1/2 uses couldn’t imagine 10 days

Absolutely ridiculous! Why do you imagine the towels are so dirty they need such constant washing?

Saturday is my usual washing day, but no way am I doing it on Christmas Day. It can wait until tomorrow.

MerryChristmas21 · 25/12/2021 02:11

@foreverandalways

I was told by my beautiful grandmother years ago that you wash your good luck away if you do x
That's New Years Day, not Christmas.
gofg · 25/12/2021 02:17

If the washing needs to be done and you have a washing machine, can you tell me what the hardship is in putting it into the machine and turning it on.

It's not a hardship, but I would then have to take it out of the machine, take it outside and hang it on the line, then bring it in when dry. None of that is a hardship, but it's Christmas Day - surely there can be one day in the year where the usual chores can be put on hold? Also I can imagine my late DM looking down on me in horror!

Eileen101 · 25/12/2021 05:29

I'll need to put a nappy wash on. I tried to get it all done last night knowing that we're going to be out today and tomorrow, but didn't get as far as the nappy wash.

I knew that this thread would bring up the usual washing towels debate Grin

Proseccorella · 25/12/2021 06:48

I wish I could!! Dog pooed on MIL's trousers late last night... Put a wash on but machine broke down mid-cycle Xmas Shock Merry Christmas everyone!!

UseOfWeapons · 25/12/2021 07:03

I would if I needed to and the weather was good for hanging it on the line for a flips!

lilstarr99 · 25/12/2021 07:18

Yes definitely! We are a family of six (four teenagers) and I have to do at least one wash per day to keep up. The teenagers, especially the girls go through too many clothes, but it the towels that causes problems. They’ll get a fresh one out, then leave it in a heap on the floor. No amount of nagging has worked!

TBF one of them has started doing her own laundry, but despite showing her, always overloads the machine, then forgets to spin or put in the dryer and I end up sorting it out or it’ll go fusty. I hate laundry, but it’s better to stay on top of it.

It’s lot like we have to scrub with our hands, it’s not a big deal!

Timeisavirtue · 25/12/2021 07:29

If there’s enough then yes, it’s usually the last thought behind everything else needing doing.

SlipperySlope99 · 25/12/2021 07:31

Just put one on now. DH and DS still asleep, washing basket full, so why not 😁

ScrambledEggForBrains · 25/12/2021 08:46

I’m tumbling as we speak, won’t do any cleaning or laundry on New Years Day though

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 25/12/2021 08:52

I've just put one on...between the new clothes for Christmas and what was in the basket, we have a full load. It's also a really good drying day, so it makes sense to get washing out on the line!

Are the battle of the bath towels with teenagers, just use it and drop on the floor and get a clean one out the airing cupboard next day!! Well I bought them all a Crome towel rail for there radiators in there rooms then bought them all two bath towels to match the colour of there rooms , told them that was it for the week , took all the other towels out of the airing cupboard. They eventually learned to hang them back on there towel rails in there room , after many times of having to use a damp one from there floor. Also said that if they did not bring them down to get washed with there bedding once a week that was not my problem, as I was not running a hotel for them. Really helped cut down on the towel washing two bath towels per person per week instead of seven. Can always use the its bad for the planet card if the say it disgusting To only use two bath towels a week, bet Greta is not using a clean bath towel every day!!

Brigante9 · 25/12/2021 09:20

No choice, puppies have had an accident overnight!

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 25/12/2021 09:24

I wasn't going too, but new kitten bolted his food this morning and vomited on a bedspread so needs must!

sherryoclock · 25/12/2021 10:14

Nope. Ill be too pissed

MajorNeville · 25/12/2021 10:19

I don't think of putting a load on as a chore tbh, just fling it in and forget about it until it's done and then dry it. About 15m out of your day.

wonkylegs · 25/12/2021 10:37

Not on purpose but MIL has tried to help with something I asked her to leave, it's gone wrong and I'm now sorting it out.

growyourownjam · 25/12/2021 10:38

Yes I do

notacooldad · 25/12/2021 10:52

Just as I was getting ready for work I heard Dh sorting out the washing and he got a load on as I was leaving.

sashagabadon · 25/12/2021 10:59

I’ve got one on now Grin

MadisonAvenue · 25/12/2021 11:05

I’ve not washed anything but I’ve ironed yesterday’s load while waiting for everyone else to get up.
