Do you do laundry on Christmas day?

Sorry a bit of a dull thread!

Just wondering if other people stick a wash on? I always seems to have loads of laundry...if I have a day where I don't do any, I find it really piles up and I end up with a backlog. On the other hand, it feels totally shit to do washing on Christmas day! What do you do?

@Omicrone

3 loads of washing a day?!

No wonder our planet is fucked.

Nearly half of the UK’s electricity is from completely renewable sources. The tariff we use is 100% renewable.

Billionaires having a space race is far more problematic than people doing two loads of washing.

caringcarer · 24/12/2021 18:22

Nope, Xmas day I cook a lot do no laundry. Iight put on s load on Boxing Day if needed.

restingbitchface30 · 24/12/2021 18:24

I will because my sons got COVID and I’m trying to wash all his stuff daily. But normally, no. The house gets scruffy and I don’t care. We are all together that’s all that matters

If the washing needs to be done and you have a washing machine, can you tell me what the hardship is in putting it into the machine and turning it on. Is it really that much sacrifice of time to do this? You are not handwashing the machine does it for you. Jeez the generation today think it is a chore to use a washing machine you just can not believe it

Roselilly36 · 24/12/2021 18:29

I don’t now, but when my DS’ were little, Christmas Day was still a laundry day.

ichundich · 24/12/2021 18:30

No, I've done 5 over the past 2 days and can finally see the bottom of the basket!

masterblaster · 24/12/2021 18:54

In preparation for Christmas I sent 24 kg (about two weeks worth of clothes for the entire family, all of the towels and all of the sheets) to the local washing service and got it back three days later folded and ready to put away. It cost 42 quid and I’m in no way unhappy.

Davygran · 24/12/2021 18:55

@ShirleyPhallus

No, but then I’m always vaguely horrified (yet can’t look away) at MN laundry threads because people often say they have about 3 loads per day and I just can’t imagine creating that volume of laundry.

Wear a jumper twice. Change your towel every 10 days. Nothing will happen except for less laundry to do

Exactly this! We shouldn’t use something once (undies excepted of course) and presume it needs washing. It’s so wrong!
notacooldad · 24/12/2021 18:59

I'm going to wash the bedding before I go to work tomorrow ( Christmas day)

That's radical!!!🤣🤣🤣

RB68 · 24/12/2021 19:01

I generally wash one load a day sometimes two if I can dry outside - but I don't have a dryer, we only currently have a bath so don't bathe every day - although we do wsh, we are not sporty so no kit really other than my gym stuff and whilst I work out and get hot its not drenched in sweat etc as I try and keep HR at an evenish keel so as not to stress my body etc. If something is not next to the skin and has no stains then it gets worn again - I always try and wear a vest top under a jumper etc

I think we are all too quick to throw something especially towels etc in the wash too frequently

RB68 · 24/12/2021 19:02

oh and wont be washing things tomorrow

skodadoda · 24/12/2021 19:05

@Jumpingintochristmas

In twenty years of parenting I have put the washing machine on once only at Christmas after a very unfortunate tripping/trifle incident involving DH Grin
😮 more information needed here 🤣
TheRemotePart · 24/12/2021 19:17

I’ll stick a wash on. Possible the dryer. Nothing will be hung, though.

CaptainPovey · 24/12/2021 19:23

If you want to, put a wash on.

If you are not sure if its allowed about it, log it with Wash and Trace and see if any locals have caught the bug

CaptainPovey · 24/12/2021 19:26

*ignore 'about it' Blush

Dnaltocs · 24/12/2021 19:33

Definitely not. Whites one day, non whites another. Too much washing when not needed.
I wait till I have a decent pile. Too much electricity used.
Merry Christmas to all here.

waitingpatientlyforspring · 24/12/2021 19:37

We did last load yesterday. We (dh) probably will do one with the table cloth, napkins etc tomorrow night.

Scottsy100 · 24/12/2021 19:37

I’ve got one on now 😂

RamblingOldWoman · 24/12/2021 19:41

We’re a family of 6 and I generally do 2 loads a day but I never wash on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Day, or any bank holiday. It’s not going anywhere and I’d rather do a few more loads afterwards and have time off from checking the dryer and putting it away!

Bleachmycloths · 24/12/2021 19:45

I would definitely avoid a full on wash but I would have no qualms about putting in a wash at the end of Christmas Day if necessary: cotton napkins, tablecloth, hand towels that people have used, tea towels etc. No big deal
If you have a washer dryer.

Tzimi · 24/12/2021 19:45

@1forAll74

No,I havent got a washing machine,
Wow, so do you use a laundrette all the time? Or do you wash your clothes by hand?
c3pu · 24/12/2021 19:46

I do laundry whenever it needs doing, which sometimes falls on Xmas day.

I don't see the big deal, it takes less than 5 minutes to load the machine and not much more to hang it up after with an hour or so in between. I do plenty of chores on the day (cooking, washing up etc) I really can't get worked up over a few minutes of laundry.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 24/12/2021 19:47

@Foxglovesandlilacs86

And if this is turning into a towel thread, then I wash towels after every use! With this many people in the house I couldn’t stand damp towels hanging round everywhere! And I just prefer to use a clean towel every time. Each to their own though!
Fuck the planet, eh?
marktayloruk · 24/12/2021 20:05

Don't even think of it. Do no housework even.clearing or washing up on Christmas Day.

MrsMop1964 · 24/12/2021 20:08

no and not often on Sundays or Bank Holidays either. It's a hangover from my grandma, but I guess that was to give (usually) the women a day off.
