Do you do laundry on Christmas day?

Sorry a bit of a dull thread!

Just wondering if other people stick a wash on? I always seems to have loads of laundry...if I have a day where I don't do any, I find it really piles up and I end up with a backlog. On the other hand, it feels totally shit to do washing on Christmas day! What do you do?

No, but then I’m always vaguely horrified (yet can’t look away) at MN laundry threads because people often say they have about 3 loads per day and I just can’t imagine creating that volume of laundry.

Wear a jumper twice. Change your towel every 10 days. Nothing will happen except for less laundry to do

Megan2018 · 23/12/2021 12:31

I put one on if needed, it only takes 30 seconds so hardly a chore. I don’t plan to do any, but with a toddler if it’s there, I’ll do it.

Pearlpink · 23/12/2021 12:31

It I needed too I would yes.

It's not really something that has a yes or no answer tbh. Sometimes I might but that depends on whether or not I can be arsed with it. That's applies most days anyway!

1forAll74 · 23/12/2021 12:34

No,I havent got a washing machine,

If you have outdoor hobbies & cloth nappies then wearing a jumper twice (which I always do) then you can easily generate 3 loads a day.

I come back from the horses absolutely caked in mud, I wear breeches several times if I can but have endless outdoor clothing to be washed this time of year. Not to mention girth sleeves, numnahs etc
The toddler has a ball at nursery with messy play but with potty training etc too she generates tons.

Can you not appreciate that people have lives that might be different to yours?!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 23/12/2021 12:36

Nope, only put a wash on every 2 or 3 days. Prob different when DCs were younger and throwing up/pooping/dropping food on everything.

stealthninjamum · 23/12/2021 12:36

Yes I would do it and probably will. My washing machine has a timer so I can set it to start early Xmas day and finish by 7 so I’ll spend two minutes hanging it out and hopefully will be able to ignore it til Boxing Day.

Jumpingintochristmas · 23/12/2021 12:37

In twenty years of parenting I have put the washing machine on once only at Christmas after a very unfortunate tripping/trifle incident involving DH Grin

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 23/12/2021 12:37

I might put it on, but I’ll definitely forget to take it back out again. So just like most other days really Grin

furbabymama87 · 23/12/2021 12:37

Yes I do. It takes seconds to put a wash on and a few minutes to put away. There's 6 of us in the house so if miss a day it just means there's loads to catch up on.

mum2jakie · 23/12/2021 12:37

Yes I do usually. Takes a couple of minutes and keeps on top of the washing

NotImpossible · 23/12/2021 12:37

I do a load once or twice a week so probably not but if it was a sunny/blowy day I might (not had many good washing days recently!)

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 23/12/2021 12:38

Change your towel every 10 days.

🤮

3peassuit · 23/12/2021 12:39

No.

Omicrone · 23/12/2021 12:39

3 loads of washing a day?!

No wonder our planet is fucked.

Omicrone · 23/12/2021 12:39

I do about 6 loads a week probably but definitely not on Christmas day.

Cuwins · 23/12/2021 12:39

No. We only put it on every 2-3 days so no need to. Also not here all day so wouldn't be able to take it out and hang it up anyway so would only be smelly by the end of the day.

Comedycook · 23/12/2021 12:40

Once a week Shock. For how many of you? Even if I lived alone, I'd have way more than that! Do you just chuck all the colours in together with whites and darks?

maddiemookins16mum · 23/12/2021 12:40

Yes, but only the table linen, napkins and tea towels. I stick a half load in after dinner, hang it on the dryer in the office upstairs and put away the next day. Probably takes 10 mins of my time.

Cuwins · 23/12/2021 12:40

@MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry

Change your towel every 10 days.

🤮

How often do you change yours? We do once a week but sometimes it's probably closer to 10 days. Not sure what the issue is with that.
maddiemookins16mum · 23/12/2021 12:41

@MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry

Change your towel every 10 days.

🤮

They must stink, wet, musty towels are one of my pet hates.
Sunsetsupernova · 23/12/2021 12:42

How often is everyone else changing their towels then? It’s more like every 2 weeks here

Kbyodjs · 23/12/2021 12:42

It’s about the one day of the year that I’m not going to - we have 3 kids, my husband gets very dirty at work and despite not washing towels and bedding as much as mumsnet says you should I constantly have washing to do

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 23/12/2021 12:42

Er, no. Not unless there were some massive child-related poo or vom disaster.
