Do you do laundry on Christmas day?

Sorry a bit of a dull thread!

Just wondering if other people stick a wash on? I always seems to have loads of laundry...if I have a day where I don't do any, I find it really piles up and I end up with a backlog. On the other hand, it feels totally shit to do washing on Christmas day! What do you do?

Hell no.

I'm currently working through a mountain of washing precisely so I can avoid doing any at all over the weekend and bank holidays.

ilovesushi · 23/12/2021 13:45

I've been poorly with a chest infection for three weeks and no one has thought to put the washing on once. I have put the odd wash on, but DCs bed sheets haven't been changed, towels are cleanish but supplies running low, laundry basket is beyond overflowing, sure DH and DC must be out of clean underwear by now. Clothes left on clothes horse are like cardboard. You would think they would start to notice but I think they are all oblivious.

rainrainraincamedowndowndown · 23/12/2021 13:46

I haven't even thought about it. If it needs to be done than I'll do it. It's not a really huge chore, stick them into the washing machine and job done anyway.

Absolutely not. Christmas is not a day for chores (unless directly connected like washing up Christmas lunch).

Lovemusic33 · 23/12/2021 13:47

I do some years (if it needs doing).
Towels are washed every week in my house 😉

We stay home for Christmas so it’s not hard to put the washing on whilst cooking dinner.

Iloveacurry · 23/12/2021 13:47

Yes I usually put one on in the morning. We go to my ILs on Boxing Day so not around and will then just get behind with the washing.

NameChange30 · 23/12/2021 13:47

Enjoying the towel debate btw.

"If you’re getting bodily fluids all over your towels I would suggest you’re doing it wrong."

🤣

TOWELS - those posters that wash them less often than once a week: What colour are yours?

Only, i used to have coloured towels and used to wash them once a weekish - and then i bought white towels ...

Shock it's quite shocking how yucky they get after 3/4 uses. Especially DHs.

And, to be brutally honest, mine sometimes. If i've shaved in the shower there might be some smears of blood where i've caught myself with the razor, or if i'm on and although i've washed i'll get a blood smear where i wipe with the towel. Occasional make up where i haven't washed mascara right off.

You wouldn't notice any of this on a coloured towel and it wouldn't make them ''musty'', but it does make them need a wash!

Now i wash them every 3/4 uses.

mnp321 · 23/12/2021 13:48

I genuinely cannot imagine having a new towel every day. I walk out of the shower, give my hair a quick rub, wrap the towel around me and I'm dry by the time I've pottered around for a couple of minutes. It dries on the radiator and doesn't smell musty in the least when I wash it weekly.

Perhaps a hygiene issue if you're a more of a "vigorous dryer" of body parts. Which I think may be more of a male trait.

Why haven't you said anything to your DH??
mnp321 · 23/12/2021 13:49

And my towel is white.

Hodl · 23/12/2021 13:49

Just waiting for my 4th wash of the day to finish. It's been all bedding and throws so all in the dryer, I'm trying to get it all done today so I don't have much to do tomorrow.

No I wouldn't do a wash on Christmas Day unless it was an emergency.

Anjo2011 · 23/12/2021 13:49

If a load needs doing then I’ll do it . Normally at the end of the day I will do a towels wash with the dishcloths and tea towels that we have used that day as well. Clean towel every day in downstairs loo, one of my pet hates is drying my hands on a wet/damp towel.

notacooldad · 23/12/2021 13:49

If the laundry basket is getting full , yes, I do. Why not it's not a hard job, washing, machine, into the dryer and away. It's hardly intrusive.

Several different colours but some pale blue/creamy coloured so you would see most things. Yes if I'm on I often have to put one in the wash extra but I would see that on any of our colours as I would check. Don't wear make up so I guess that helps there.
MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 23/12/2021 13:50

Why does anyone wash towels at all?? They don’t get dirty.

DH’s towels are very light grey and mine are a bright blue. Neither look grubby and you would definitely be able to see blood or mascara on either towel. I wash our towels every weekend.
ElftonWednesday · 23/12/2021 13:50

5 of us (adult sized) and we do about ten loads a week, 9kg washing machine. Occasionally a bit more if I wash dog bedding, floor mats, cushions.

Cazziebo · 23/12/2021 13:50

If I had a utility room, I might. As we eat in the kitchen, then get the board games out, having a washing running would spoil the day.

Shelby1981 · 23/12/2021 13:51

NO!! I try and do lots the weekend before so I can have a few days not doing washing

Ducksurprise · 23/12/2021 13:53

Always, have to wash all the new clothes!

Tianatiers · 23/12/2021 13:53

I was thinking the exact same thing as I hung up the second load this morning. I’m going to give myself and our overworked washing machine a break on Christmas Day but I will be paying for it for a few days afterwards! Also we have guests staying and I’ll have nowhere to hang it up while they’re here. When they go there’ll be all their bedding and towels. Oh dear I’m going to try not to think about it! Deep joy!

thewhatsit · 23/12/2021 13:54

I don’t need to put a wash on every day anyway, maybe 4-5x a week, so no. Only 4 of us.

Last year DD was in reusable nappies day and night (now fully out of them) so I washed most days. Still can’t fathom doing 2-3 loads a day though! I could still take the odd day off from it and I think I made sure to take Christmas Day off.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 23/12/2021 13:54

@Sunsetsupernova

How often is everyone else changing their towels then? It’s more like every 2 weeks here
This.

Surely after a shower you're clean so they aren't really getting dirty and if aired properly they shouldn't be damp and musty? Confused

Exception for me is hand towel from sinks as our hanging hooks don't allow for them to air well so they get changed every few days.

But back to Op - I wash most days but will probably just put a load on Christmas night then take out and hang up Boxing Day am

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 23/12/2021 13:55

I try not to, but if it's necessary, then I will do!

We've done two loads today, which will keep us clear enough of washing until Christmas night / Boxing Day so we won't have to do any this year (unless put on at night ready to go out on Boxing Day).
