Best Concert You’ve Been To / Wish You’d Been To

Had some YouTube recommendations which lead me to this.

What’s been the best concert you’ve been to & who do you wish you’d got a chance to see live?

My favourite was Pink - just absolutely phenomenal. Her voice blew me away.

I wish I’d got the chance to see Tina Turner live.

I wasn’t a fan before but I ended up watching Muse at a festival many years ago and they were really amazing. Great vocals, lots of energy and crowd engagement

Smokeahontas · 18/12/2021 23:56

My sister has seen them live a few times & said the same. They’re not really my cup of tea either.

Muse and Greenday

Both of which I only went to to keep someone company

I went to an early UB40 gig before they became huge. It was brilliant. Saw them at the NEC several years later and it was one of the most disappointing gigs.
Another fab one was Bruce Springsteen in a football stadium mid 80s.

OldWivesTale · 19/12/2021 00:18

The Smiths in 1984 or 85 - The Queen is Dead tour.

TheDogsMother · 19/12/2021 00:19

Funny you should say that about UB40 Kite. I went to see them at Brighton many years ago and it was a total disappointment. The set was barely an hour and an opportunity to plug all their new stuff (as it was at the time) and none of the old favourites. It's put me off them as a band ever since.

shinynewapple21 · 19/12/2021 00:24

@Kite22 Did you see Springsteen at Villa Park? 1988 I think. Thats the best gig I've seen.

Katshouldnotswim · 19/12/2021 00:27

Simple minds early 90s at city football grounds.

Downtherefordancing · 19/12/2021 00:29

I have seen loads of bands live but must admit one of the best was Michael Jackson on the Bad tour .. and I only went to keep my two younger sisters happy.
Really wish I’d seen Prodigy … RIP Keith x

Leonard Cohen in Glasgow. Absolutely phenomenal. I know he only did the concert because he was broke (manager swindled him), but he was just magical. Loved him.

Cried when he died, months after Maryann and the day before the idiots elected in America.

His voice may be questioned by some, but his timing? Immaculate!

Cocolapew · 19/12/2021 00:31

Best is Prince and The Revolution Parade tour in 1986 (I think!)
Also loved Neil Diamond 50th anniversary tour, The Revolution a couple of years ago and The Specials about 5 years ago.
I wish I had been at Prince birthday concert in Detroit and Talking Heads Stop Making Sense.

SkiingIsHeaven · 19/12/2021 00:34

Prince. Just the best.

Boxerine · 19/12/2021 00:36

Bowie and pulp, both at Glastonbury. Wish I'd seen Prince.

Smokeahontas · 19/12/2021 00:37

@Downtherefordancing was that at old Wembley?

User1471 I was just about to say Leonard Cohen. Absolutely amazing. I actually want to thank the bastard who stole his $$$ because otherwise I'd never have seen him.

msbevvy · 19/12/2021 00:42

The Ramones in London on New Year's Eve 1977 stands out for me but there were ever so many other great gigs that year.

AgeingDoc · 19/12/2021 00:45

Not sure if it counts, but the best concert I ever saw was the classical pianist Valentina Lisitsa at the Albert Hall.Just her and her piano all night, it was phenomenal.
Completely different, but the person I wish I could have seen live is Stevie Ray Vaughan - perhaps the best guitarist of all time.

Cocolapew · 19/12/2021 00:51

Oh and Blondie in Belfast a few years ago, I touched Debbie Harrys hand Grin

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 19/12/2021 00:51

Ahh OP, the best concert I ever saw was Tina Turner, front row at the NEC. Others were Meatloaf also at NEC and the Rolling Stones in Prague. Wish I'd seen Prince

Divebar2021 · 19/12/2021 00:54

Best by a “country” mile ( pun intended) was Chris Stapleton a couple of years ago. Wish I’d seen Nina Simone although I have no idea when she died.

Ducksareruiningmypatio · 19/12/2021 00:58

@JustLyra

Muse and Greenday

Both of which I only went to to keep someone company

These are both in my top 5 Grin Along with Frank Turner, Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters
brogan1972 · 19/12/2021 04:24

Donny Osmond at the Liverpool Arena, maybe 4 or 5 yrs ago. With my cousin who was a massive fan in the 70's.
Hands down he is Mr Showbiz!!!

TanteRose · 19/12/2021 04:31

Kate Bush, Before the Dawn tour 2014
Nothing comes close…

Really wish I’d seen Sinead O’Connor live - not sure if she’ll tour again

jellybe · 19/12/2021 04:58

Greenday- absolutely amazing. First time I saw them was Cardiff castle in 2002 such good memories.

Chilli peppers in Hyde park were amazing too.

jellybe · 19/12/2021 04:59

James brown opened for the chilli's which made it even better.
