Best Concert You’ve Been To / Wish You’d Been To

Had some YouTube recommendations which lead me to this.

What’s been the best concert you’ve been to & who do you wish you’d got a chance to see live?

My favourite was Pink - just absolutely phenomenal. Her voice blew me away.

I wish I’d got the chance to see Tina Turner live.

Prince
@TheHuntingOfTheSarky: where did you see Steely Dan?
Wembley Arena in the 90s sometime. Last time they toured here anyway!

Smokeahontas · 19/12/2021 11:55

@Oblahdeeoblahdoe I’m so jealous that you saw Tina Turner!

FWIW, the worst act I saw live was Stereophonics. Maybe it was an off night but they were garbage

Though more recently (ish) mark ronson was excellent and completely different, tosca at the arena de Verona

gogohm · 19/12/2021 11:59

Actually (sorry on a roll here) I think the most amazing thing of all time was Mahler's symphony for a thousand at the royal Albert hall

Peridot1 · 19/12/2021 12:01

Queen. Dublin 1984. Amazing.

Also saw them at Slane in Ireland which was a bit miserable due to the weather. Freddie got pissed off with people at the front throwing things and threaten to walk off.

MissAmbrosia · 19/12/2021 12:17

Depeche Mode - various times over the years
REM at MEN
Madness at Wembley Arena - just before Xmas.
Robbie Williams at Knebworth
Paul McCartney
The Who doing Quadrophenia at Hyde Park with Phil Daniels

Wish I'd seen Queen at Knebworth - dsis went.

Eyesofdisarray · 19/12/2021 12:18

Foo Fighters- phenomenal!!!!
Wish I'd seen Queen with Freddie; had a massive crush on him
Want to see Faith No More - but not touring at present due to illness

PhilCornwall1 · 19/12/2021 12:29

Best I've been to is Dire Straits, Knopfler blew my brain with the speed he played.

Next best was Level 42.

Yep, I'm quite old.

Thatldo · 19/12/2021 12:32

Andreas Vollenweider(harp) on lakeside in Switzerland in 1985

mrstea301 · 19/12/2021 12:36

Prince in Glasgow, absolutely phenomenal! Loved that the tickets only went on sale three weeks before the gig, so you weren't waiting for a year or more to go after buying the tickets! Fleetwood Mac were also amazing, saw the rumours lineup and know that will never happen again now as they've all fallen out again.

Really wish I'd seen David Bowie - was meant to see him at T in the Park but someone threw a lollipop into his eye at a gig just before it so he cancelled, and was replaced by The Darkness.

Seen everyone until I stopped in 2010 due to costs. I wasn't paying £100 to see acts I had paid £15 for at their peak. Most memorable? Springsteen 1981. 2 x nights, mcr Apollo. 3rd row, centre stage. Hitting his peak. His NEC shows 2 weeks later were equally stunning but in a bigger venue. The 1985 Born in the USA tour made him a superstar. Bon Jovi at Bradford City Hall on the Slippery When Wet tour. Pandemonium. You knew they were going to be massive. Tina Turner, Break The Rules tour. Her comeback that launched her 2nd career. An up and coming Bryan Adams as support act promoting his new album Reckless. Lots of others best caught on their way up. Nowadays, nobodies seem to play in 10000 seat venues at £100 plus

FlipFlops4Me · 19/12/2021 14:17

I wish I could go back in time and be at the Pink Floyd Pulse concert. I've got the DVD and the CD's but oh, I wish I'd been there!

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 19/12/2021 14:17

When Elbow played Sheffield Arena, Richard Hawley was there with them to perform The Fix.
I would have loved to have been there.

My best gigs have been Bob Dylan and The strokes. Goose pimply feelings at those because I absolutely love both of them.

The most fun was probably Red Hot Chilli Peppers. It was a beautiful hot day, in an open air theatre. I randomly was given the tickets for free a few hours before with a few beer tokens thrown in. It was just so fun and spontaneous.

Karmagoat · 19/12/2021 14:24

Prince was amazing. Had tickets to Madonnas Blond Ambition concert but got run over a week before so couldn't go 🤦‍♀️ still gutted about that lol!

Agadorsparticus · 19/12/2021 14:29

Best vocal performance was Alicia Keys, amazing, better than Mariah Carey and Beyonce. Best concert for energy was Justin Timberlake, great show.

Downtherefordancing · 19/12/2021 14:31

@Smokeahontas
No it was at Aintree race track, Liverpool x

TheVanguardSix · 19/12/2021 14:32

The Pixies, Sigur Ros... both phenomenal live.
Really loved seeing Erykah Badu live as well.

I wish to heavens I'd seen George Michael live... and Leonard Cohen... and Prince.

CMOTDibbler · 19/12/2021 14:32

Freddie Mercury Tribute concert. It was absolutely amazing.
Also, Whiskey Myers at the O2 institute in Birmingham. They are the kind of band who are permanently on tour and had those live stage skills you only get from working your butt off in tiny venues.

stopringingme · 19/12/2021 14:38

Tina Turner at Wembley, that night she had a surprise guest - Lionel Richie, who was in the UK and he sang quite a few songs.

Also Madonna in 1987 at Wembley.

JustLikeSugar · 19/12/2021 14:43

Best: Lucinda Williams for the Car Wheels on Gravel Road tour in the 90s. A smallish venue, not a sell out crowd, a few drinks before had, and I knew all the songs. It was amazing.

Wish/Missed: Suede in 1994. Had tickets, on the way to the gig with best friend and planning to met others. Stopped for drinks, a few too many and some other complications and we missed the gig.

Mackmama · 19/12/2021 14:50

I love going to gigs. I think my favourites have been the ones I’ve been to this year having not been able to go for so long. Royal Blood and Sam Fender.

I’ve been watching Get Back so the concert I wish I’d been at was that Beatles one on the roof!

PhilCornwall1 · 19/12/2021 15:36

Perhaps not one to admit, but another good one was Kylie Minogue at the Eden Project a couple of years ago. She really was quite good.

CatNamedEaster · 19/12/2021 15:50

I saw Kylie too, back around "Your Disco Needs You" time. She was ace.
