Best Concert You’ve Been To / Wish You’d Been To

Had some YouTube recommendations which lead me to this.

What’s been the best concert you’ve been to & who do you wish you’d got a chance to see live?

My favourite was Pink - just absolutely phenomenal. Her voice blew me away.

I wish I’d got the chance to see Tina Turner live.

I’ve never really been into concerts until I got to go to loads working for an arena sponsor.

Not through work - Take That Circus tour, the show aspect was amazing. Don’t think any will beat that.

Singing - Celine Dion was amazing, really enjoyed Mariah Carey Christmas Show.

We got to see one of Keith Flint’s last concerts a few weeks before his death.

I would absolutely love to see Pink live.

I wish I'd gone to Guns n Roses Use your illusion tour in 1991. Their Wembley gig was Izzy stradlin's last and the tour was the last they'd do with the the majority of the original band.
My parents wouldn't let my 15yo self go. Unsurprisingly.

@JustLikeSugar

Best: Lucinda Williams for the Car Wheels on Gravel Road tour in the 90s. A smallish venue, not a sell out crowd, a few drinks before had, and I knew all the songs. It was amazing.

Wish/Missed: Suede in 1994. Had tickets, on the way to the gig with best friend and planning to met others. Stopped for drinks, a few too many and some other complications and we missed the gig.

I saw suede on that tour, I was at uni at Exeter abd they played the SU

Take That, The circus. Never seen anything like it. It was beyond incredible

megletthesecond · 19/12/2021 21:15

Prince was always good. Saw him 3 times in the 90's.

camperqueen54 · 19/12/2021 21:17

Went to see the Beastie Boys in Liverpool. There was a riot. It was in the late 80s. Fantastic.

rslsys · 19/12/2021 21:22

The Who at Norwich Lads Club.
Once the smoke had cleared, the Club Manager came on stage and said there was a choice for the next week between Jimi Hendrix and Cream.
The vote was tied, they took a 10 bob levy from everyone in the audience and the following week we had Hendrix AND Cream. Happy days when bands were earning their dues, travelling in Transits and playing smaller venues.
**@Oblahdeeoblahdoe* I’m so* jealous that you saw Tina Turner!

FWIW, the worst act I saw live was Stereophonics. Maybe it was an off night but they were garbage
I saw Stereophonics at a festival a few years ago and thought they were excellent!

I think my best concert was Foo Fighters at the London Stadium.

I wish I could have seen Linkin Park or Queen with Freddie

Livpool · 19/12/2021 21:34

My best 3 are:

Pink
Prince
The Killers

MsCupcake · 19/12/2021 21:55

I’ve got three absolute best ever(!), Meatloaf (1980’s), Status Quo (1990’s) & Jeff Lynnes ELO (2019) all amazing entertainment and epic nights out.
Honourable mentions go to Neil Diamond 50th Anniversary Tour and The Everly Brothers (1980’s).
Sick I missed it, Queen with Freddie

AlecTrevelyan006 · 19/12/2021 22:18

best - and first - was Gary Numan at Hammersmith Odeon September 1980. It simply blew my mind.

close runner up is U2 at The Lyceum in The Strand, December 1981 - one of my favourite venues though they stopped having live bands there quite a few years ago. They had just released their second album (October - which I still love) and you got the sense that they were on the cusp of making it really big so it was a great time to see them. It was back in the day when there was no decibel limits so it was really loud and crowd was rammed in and we were bopping up and down all night so got incredibly sweaty. It was a freezing cold night and I remember getting the last routemaster bus home shivering but buzzing. Great days.

Would love to seen Bowie

LoLo2020 · 19/12/2021 22:20

Muse at Shepherds Bush. Felt like the roof was going to lift off! Amazing live band, best gig I've ever been to

Timeisavirtue · 19/12/2021 22:25

Years and years were really good...
I wish I’d got to go to pink, I absolutely love her and always see clips online which look amazing

MadisonAvenue · 19/12/2021 22:26

Best was Green Day supported by Frank Turner (two of my favourites in one night) at Brixton Academy around 2013, it was a Reading warm up show.

And not quite a concert but Billie Joe Armstrong playing St Jimmy in the American Idiot stage show on Broadway was amazing.

NeedWineNow · 19/12/2021 23:03

Forgot Take That! I've seen them three times and they've always been great.

Off to Manchester to see the Foos next year as we'll be away the following week when they play London. Can't wait.

And DH has reminded me about seeing the Stones at Wembley. They were great but we were so far back we watched the big screens rather than them on the stage.

Another I wish I'd seen - David Bowie

Ieatmarmite · 19/12/2021 23:18

Mono at a small venue in Leeds (forgotten the name). Hot, crowded and incredibly loud. Their music seemed to fill my whole body and I couldn't decide whether everything I was hearing was real or whether part of it was being made up in my own head.

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 19/12/2021 23:20

Bowie at Glastonbury.
Can't believe looking back I didn't try and go.

Pink Floyd in St Marks Square Venice Shock

waltzingparrot · 19/12/2021 23:30

Kid Creole & The Coconuts, Ipswich Gaumont 1983

StucklnAMuumuuCantGetOutOflt · 19/12/2021 23:31

Best Concert I have been to
Editors just before lockdown

Concert I wish I had been to Aforesaid Editors at Manchester Cathedral and probably Donnington 90 Whitesnake/Aerosmith www.ukrockfestivals.com/donington-1990.html
Floralnomad · 19/12/2021 23:33

Hard to pick a best one as I’ve been to some great events - Live Aid , Queen ( Wembley 86 ) , Springsteen ( a few times ) . The best in recent times was Cher surprisingly as I’m not a fan but my sister wanted to go and it really was an excellent show . Bryan Adams acoustic tour was also excellent as was George Michael . The only real disappointment was Billy Joel - we left early .

salsmum · 19/12/2021 23:37

Prince gold tour at Wembley and Phil Collins.

viques · 19/12/2021 23:47

@user1471453601

Leonard Cohen in Glasgow. Absolutely phenomenal. I know he only did the concert because he was broke (manager swindled him), but he was just magical. Loved him.

Cried when he died, months after Maryann and the day before the idiots elected in America.

His voice may be questioned by some, but his timing? Immaculate!

I was going to say Leonard Cohen at the O2! Amazing. So I will change it to Tina Turner, also at the 02. So much energy, she was inspirational.

Can I also throw into the mix Nina Simone, two hours late, drugged to her eyeballs/ drunk as a skunk (nearly fell off the stage) but OMG that voice .

newterritory · 20/12/2021 00:13

Springsteen - seen him countless times.
The man is just phenomenal Star

PermanentTemporary · 20/12/2021 00:24

Best ever: Springsteen at the Milton Keynes Bowl, must have been 92 or 93. Magical night. I wasn't even a fan really until then.

The one that got away: loads. I'm gutted I missed the Steely Dan Two Against Nature tour in the 90s, and Death Cab for Cutie played one night in the UK in 2020 I think and for some reason I decided it was too difficult to try for.
