Might seem a daft request but I have neither in my home so these would be nice to see, especially at this time of year when flames and warmth are needed the most. Cats and dogs in the pictures, making the most of it all, are welcome 🙂.

Shameless bookmarking. We’re currently planning and saving for a whole new fire, fire surround, mantle, hearth etc for our living room. Just bought the house and we’re saving so we can splurge a bit so it’s be lovely to see others.

MrsPnut · 05/12/2021 20:43

Bookmarking and will take a photo shortly. No pets in front of the fire because it’s a bit too hot for them.

ponkydonkey · 05/12/2021 20:44

I'd love to show you a good one but it's a bit warm for a fire tonight...

Tomorrow promise

We have an Aga and a multi fuel stove. I'd give anything for gas central heating tbh.

Vickles20 · 05/12/2021 20:52

Love our woodburner. Heats the whole for the downstairs which is all knocked through.

Used to have a real open fire. But it just heated our toes!

Beautiful. Cant be beaten but I'm surprised that there are pets out there who would find a spot in front of the fire too hot. Our cat and spaniels in the family home years ago competed for the best position. Cat usually won on account of sharpest claws!

I use the Sky scenes log fire on our tv, sounds great just missing the warmth Xmas Grin makes the room feel so cosy with the pretty lights this time of year.

Bluntness100 · 05/12/2021 20:57

My friends only light their fire for their twenty year old cat, who loves to lay in front of it, we have no pets, just an old house, which needs a fire really to keep it habitable. Plus we are self sufficient in wood, so it’s pretty much free heating,

What fuel do you burn ? Our family home was in the heart of the suburbs and a smokeless zone so we used to burn Homefire smokeless coal. It wasn't the easiest fuel to ignite and it did smell unpleasant when the wind blew down the chimney but it stayed alight for ages and gave a lot of heat. Another downside was the large amount of ash to get rid of the day after. Fortunately, there was a quite big deciduous plantation behind the back gardens on our road and I spent many hours collecting firewood from there, especially after strong winds had dumped a few weak branches. Mainly beech, as I recall.

We burn seasoned wood, we have two large wood stores and store wood for at least two years before we burn it, we use a moisture meter to check it before we burn it, and make sure it’s below ten percent, it’s trees that have come down, or large branches, in our own garden that we burn. At any given time we have about three years supply but it’s a lot of work chopping it, storing it and then moving it up to the house,

Shmithecat2 · 05/12/2021 21:14

We've an open fire. Idiot cat would climb IN the fire if I let him....
