I’m an adult and I don’t have an advent calendar 🙋🏻‍♀️

I just don’t get them nor want one. Sometimes some of the things look nice but there’s invariably things I don’t want in there. I like using the same skincare not random bits and bobs. One year I shared a body shop calendar with my teen daughter and I’m still trying to use up tiny shower gels. I see so many threads, surely I’m not the only adult out there without one!

I can’t believe it’s December - only got the kids their calendars yesterday when they were right in front of me in the shop.

Part of me yearns for a beauty calendar - then I consider the wasted plastic and the fact I’ll probably hate 20 of the products and I’d rather just drop the cash on 2/3 full-size products I actually love.

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2021 07:34

I only got one because my sister bought me one.
I buy my adult DSs one because I always do.
If you don’t get or want one it’s fine, don’t have one.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 01/12/2021 07:35

I’ve not got one. I haven’t had one since I was a teen living with my parents. I didn’t think it was normal for adults to have them?

I've just got myself a chocolate one. I always want chocolate.

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 01/12/2021 07:37

I buy myself a box of chocolates and have one every day in December, much nicer. I wouldn’t want random stuff.

Footprintsinthegrass · 01/12/2021 08:10

I don't bother for me. I think the bigger adult ones are ridiculous. Perfume, gin, makeup. How does anyone have money left for Christmas?

ThePoisonousMushroom · 01/12/2021 08:18

I have a gin one. I have money left for Christmas because my dad bought it for me as a gift.
I wouldn’t be bothered if I didn’t have one, equally it’s nice that my dad thought of me and bought it. It’s not that big a deal.

MeltedButter · 01/12/2021 08:18

I'm not having one and neither is my DH. It's not that main stream yet is it?

This is the first year I will be doing Xmas Eve boxes but I'm only doing them for my kids not myself or DH.

Goldensunnydays81 · 01/12/2021 08:21

I always think I want one but think I would be disappointed with what’s in them or won’t use the stuff so I never get one but then feel disappointed I haven’t got one 🤣

Tal45 · 01/12/2021 08:28

We all have cadburys heroes ones - waiting to see if it's full of eclairs in which case will be very disappointing.

Tal45 · 01/12/2021 08:29

As had one that had far too many Chomps for my liking previously.

drspouse · 01/12/2021 08:30

I have never had one for me but this year I got a (plastic free) yarn calendar.

ColettesEarrings · 01/12/2021 08:31

I've got a Tony Chocoloney one! So there! 🤣

picklemewalnuts · 01/12/2021 08:32

I've done this! A good quality that I wouldn't usually have.

I also burn an advent candle.

I do enjoy the Christmas preparation, but think the calendars are a bit of an eco disaster!

When did adults start having advent calendars?
No problem with it, just didn’t realise people did.

Fridafever · 01/12/2021 09:02

I have one for the first time this year and finding it very exciting. DH thinks they’re ridiculous but I don’t care

DameCelia · 01/12/2021 09:04

@drspouse
Which yarn advent calendar did you get? I'm trying to decide whether to look for any that are still on sale.

ssd · 01/12/2021 09:05

Im buying myself one later

Santaischeckinglists · 01/12/2021 09:06

Dh bought me one.
I am 50!

Lifewith · 01/12/2021 09:07

What a strange thread
If you don't want one, don't get one.

Kendodd · 01/12/2021 09:07

When did adults start having advent calendars?

When businesses noticed a marketing opportunity.

I bought one for myself (gullible)
It's only a card one with windows and a picture underneath. I did delight in opening window one this morning Blush

foxgoosefinch · 01/12/2021 09:09

I have an ingrained belief that they’re for kids only! As a child I loved my picture ones and actually hated the chocolate ones, which always had cheap chocolate in them which I didn’t like. I think I must have told my mum not to get me one any more when I was about 14 as I thought I was far too old for them. (To be fair, I might have thought differently if you could have got nicer ones with proper chocolates in at the time 😂.)

There are so many things now that used to be for kids that now get marketed to adults - people forget that Easter eggs were only for kids until recently, too! It’s only within the last fifteen years that there was a big push to market “adult” Easter eggs and it became a big thing. Advent calendars too.

Kendodd · 01/12/2021 09:10

I always buy one of my now teen children a cheap chocolate advert calendar for Christmas. As in wrap it up and put it under the tree for Christmas day. The joke is, it's the worlds worst Christmas present.

Fizbosshoes · 01/12/2021 09:10

I've not got one, and never had one as an adult. I am way too low maintenance for beauty ones and eat chocolate everyday in December anyway but I might look for reduced ones in Hotel Chocolat at the end of the month
