French Man has fingers removed to resemble "alien."

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but it popped up on my news feed and I initially thought it would make a lighthearted "Oh look, a man identifying as an alien now" post.

Reading the article it's absolutely horrific. This poor man needs help, not people indulging his delusions. The surgeons involved need struck off, whatever country they're in.

TW - images are disturbing.

I'm almost as shocked the paper has this under "Beauty, Cosmetic Surgery"

Pic of him in the loo. I realise, in the context of this insanity, that that doesn't really register but somehow it raises red flags for me.

I may have been on this board too long.

He should be frog marched to a Leprosy or burns unit and be forced to listen to the afflicted ones stories of how their disfigurements occurred through disease, accident and crimes upon them and how they yearn to regain their former looks.

It’s evil that doctors would actually do this.

ABCeasyasdohrayme · 24/11/2021 19:49

Its his body, if he wants to pay for surgeries to look like whatever he wants it doesn't bother me. It's his choice.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 24/11/2021 19:50

When I worked in A+E we had a man come in who had a magnet surgucally inserted under the skin in one finger so he could talk to aliens, he came to A+E because wanted it taken out as he didnt want to talk to them anymore.

Awful. He was so handsome before, I can’t understand why somebody would do this to themselves.

FindingMeno · 24/11/2021 19:50

Each to their own.
I'd rather see the money spent on these modifications going to people needing medical treatment they need and can't afford, but I don't think his unusual ideas necessarily mean he's mentally unstable either.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 24/11/2021 19:53

@BleuJay

An abomination to the human race.
Do you think the same about all people who self harm?

@Letsallscreamatthesistene 🤣 that's such a great story! I don't blame him, aliens do talk a lot of shite
Anontwentyone · 24/11/2021 19:54

Oh, thanks phone for posting that before I'd finished.

I clearly haven’t been here long enough as I can’t work out what you’re getting at!
KittenKong · 24/11/2021 20:00

Who is paying for this? It’s pretty horrific and yes, if you can pay there will be some surgeons willing to do what you want (see the recent ‘human barbie’ with boobs so large she can’t bend over?).

Why is another matter - what does he see when he looks in the mirror? Has he got kids (that would scare any child shirtless)? I am assuming a mental illness - wouldn’t be surprised if there was a history of abuse.

Anontwentyone · 24/11/2021 20:01

..... they don't visit a surgeon for any reason whatsoever for the most part, it's just a case of "woah I'm an alien, I'm a legal alien" with no attempt to change what can be seen by everyone else thinking no you're not. But anyway. Surgically removing someone's perfectly healthy fingers should really not be practiced.

I must admit I giggled at seeing all the photos only for it to finish with a photo of him highly non-alien beige slacks.

Soubriquet · 24/11/2021 20:06

It’s his body so I suppose he gets to do what he wants with it

He isn’t demanding his own personal space so he isn’t affecting anyone else either.

Personally, yes I think he looks strange, but he’s going for the alien look. He’s gonna look strange

30whatacrock · 24/11/2021 20:11

What kind of ethical doctor would do this.

@Letsallscreamatthesistene What did you do? Did he get the magnet taken out?

I've had quite a few patients with a fixed delusional belief of some sort. We used to have one who believed for years that he had insects under his skin (quite a common delusion) but was perfectly normal in other ways. You could have a completely rational conversation with him about anything other than the insects.

It's sadder when it involves body dysmorphia like this. He doesn't see himself, or his old self, the way we see him.

I bet you he didn't get the surgery in France. The French tend to be brutally bracingly frank about this sort of thing. I'd expect a French surgeon to tell him straight up that he is crazy.

Packingsoapandwater · 24/11/2021 20:16

The interesting thing here is that none of this would have been possible without the invention of antibiotics.

I think about that quite a lot. Considering the general consensus is that that we are oversubscribing antibiotics and we are facing the possibility of bacterial resistance, I do wonder whether future generations will judge us far more harshly for destroying a discovery that can save lives in the pursuit of these types of modifications, than they will environmental destruction.

TuftyMarmoset · 24/11/2021 20:17

There aren’t many things that make me go wtf but in this case truly what the FUCK. I can’t believe doctors did this to him and no mention of counselling or MH support?
