French Man has fingers removed to resemble "alien."

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but it popped up on my news feed and I initially thought it would make a lighthearted "Oh look, a man identifying as an alien now" post.

Reading the article it's absolutely horrific. This poor man needs help, not people indulging his delusions. The surgeons involved need struck off, whatever country they're in.

TW - images are disturbing.

I'm almost as shocked the paper has this under "Beauty, Cosmetic Surgery"

OP posts:

Yeah OP, course you did. Then you decided to state that he's horrifying and delusional and let others join in. Jesus wept. This place is becoming so fucking toxic.

This guy doesn't give two shits what you think of him, or whether you want to try to psychoanalyse his reasons for extreme body mod, or any of the other hypothetical bollocks some people have come up with on this thread. Just live and let live for actual fucks sake.

ArabellaScott · 25/11/2021 20:55

It seems quite a cold and unpleasant world where nobody is to ever express concern at a fellow human being who is clearly suffering - I would say ostentatiously suffering.

Shock at this man's appearance is to be expected, it's rational and I would also suggest probably a large part of his motivation. He wants to shock & provoke, he is asking the world to respond to him. You might even say he's begging for a reaction.

I can recognise this because it's a human need to be seen and acknowledged. We want our pain to be met by others, we want to be witnessed. So no, no anger or hatred here, that's an odd take. Just shock and compassion and anger at any person who would enable this.

We live together in the world, we're all just walking each other home, as the saying goes.

We should look out for each other, we should try to take care, we should at least offer help rather than shrugging and saying 'it's his choice'.

Where do you get the impression he is suffering? Honestly, please copy and paste anything that he has said that implies that.

Some people do not want your pity.

I found that piece really interesting too, MissMinutes24

I think this type of behaviour is a symptom of a sick society that isn't fit for purpose anymore. Animals start chewing at themselves when highly stressed, and I feel like humans are doing the equivalent with surgeries and modifications.

How do you know? By your own analysis, I presume. We are all speaking in hypotheticals, here.
ArabellaScott · 25/11/2021 21:00

The impression he's suffering? He's cut his fingers off.

An abomination to the human race.

@MoveAhoy I mean, this is pretty offensive.

Your righteous anger missed its mark I think or are you asking me to join you in condemning a poster?
I'm confused.

How does that prove he is suffering?
Kanaloa · 25/11/2021 21:11
@Kanaloa I just spent some time on his Instagram profile.

Before he had his fingers chopped off he posted multiple photos of people with two fingers and hints as to it being his next plan.

What has he posted more recently?

A large selection (in a gallery) of mechanical legs.

I'd be £1000 (of my own money) that he plans to have his legs amputated.
Confused

Awful. Well I hope if he does become disabled through this the people who have done it are prepared to be his carers and see what they’ve done.

Kanaloa · 25/11/2021 21:12

The impression he is suffering? He has cut two of his fingers off and wants to be an alien and posts it all on social media.

If a loved one of mine did that I’d be very concerned and would presume they were suffering.

And if they told you they were happy? What then?
Whatwouldscullydo · 25/11/2021 21:15

Do mentally stable people chop off fingers ?

If he's so happy whys he planning other procedures? He'd be done surely. As opposed to only 34 percent done.

Kanaloa · 25/11/2021 21:15

To be honest I’d think they had suffered a mental break. The man I mentioned upthread, Dennis Avner - there was a doctor of bioethics who was asked about him and said ‘Cosmetic surgery is a practice based on informed consent that needs to balance the risks with the benefits. It is possible to have a coherent view that is nonetheless detrimental to one's well-being. This is a patient who's being harmed by medicine in the interest of his tradition.’

I think this is much the same really. Just because someone can coherently say I want this doesn’t mean it’s right or good for them.

For every Dennis Avner, there are countless people with extreme body mods who are not killing themselves.
Kanaloa · 25/11/2021 21:34

Are there? I didn’t know countless people were out there chopping off healthy fingers for no reason.

If you think this is normal and healthy behaviour that’s your lookout. I think it’s pretty worrying to be honest. Body modifications are one thing but this is body mutilation. And as a pp said he’s now posting pictures of mechanical legs, so what’s next?

Kanaloa · 25/11/2021 21:36

Also, outside of fingers he’s cut his nose off too. There’s no way that doesn’t cause health issues.

Kanaloa · 25/11/2021 21:38

And the videos of him on Instagram dancing round with a big bloodstained knife - these aren’t the normal actions of a healthy individual.

Magicpaintbrush · 25/11/2021 21:39

If I was this guy's parents I would be devastated at what he has done to himself. If he ever changes his mind there is no coming back from this.

CouncilHousedAndViolentBaby · 25/11/2021 21:40

So so sad

MoveAhoy · 25/11/2021 21:45

@XenoBitch

You really do not recognise that a harm has been done until death is involved.
And I don't think you care even after their death. They died doing what they loved seems to be your angle.

There are people behind these ideas. Actual people. Not honorary vessels of thought. People.

Death is not the yard stick of harm. It is the extreme. Harm is present way before death or even pain!

XenoBitch · 25/11/2021 21:55

I self harm.. I have been sectioned for self harm. I know what it is like. I don't think this man is the same as me. Simple.

Kanaloa · 25/11/2021 22:02

There isn’t just one form of self harm unfortunately. It comes in many different forms - excessive drinking can be a self harm even.

Just because you’ve self harmed and don’t equate yourself with this man doesn’t mean he isn’t self harming.

yourestandingonmyneck · 25/11/2021 22:03

@Rightsraptor

Pic of him in the loo. I realise, in the context of this insanity, that that doesn't really register but somehow it raises red flags for me.

I may have been on this board too long.

I can't figure out what you're getting?

The difference between self harm and body mods is intent.
Kanaloa · 25/11/2021 22:09

And what do you think the intent is here? Cutting off your nose, lips, ears, and fingers. Procedures they refuse to do in your own country so you need to go elsewhere to have them done. Posting this all on social media. Telling people you want to be an alien. Dancing around with a big bloodstained knife.

Come on. I agree that body modification can be acceptable but this isn’t just body modification.
