I'm clearly a bit bored...

Richard Burke is my perfect man and he and Monica made a much better couple than she and Chandler.

I really couldn't stand Susan. Or Emily.

Ross Geller is the funniest friend and mellowed a lot as he aged.

The Rachel and Joey hook up was totally wrong on all levels. She just wouldn't have gone there.

Kathy cheating on Chandler was pretty unbelievable (in real life both actors protested this, obviously to no avail).

Phoebe was a bit of a bitch who often threw her friends under the bus.

I preferred David the science guy to Mike, he was very funny.

It would have been nice for Joey to have a happier ending, a dream woman or part in a hit show.

Rachel's wardrobe is absolutely incredible.

Monica's Mum is really awful to her.

I hate to say it but Joey is a bit of a loser. Though he was the only one who never got drunk throughout the entire show.

Janice was actually really nice.

I'm sure I have more :-)

Richard Burke creeps me out. Everyone thinks he's so amazing bit how many people would be happy if their 50-odd(?) yesr old best friend started dating their 20-something child who that friend had known since they were a baby and had them playing in their garden etc. I'm glad she didn't end up with him.

DivorceAdvicePlease123 · 31/10/2021 17:53

I think he's an absolute dreamboat 💕

I remain devastated that Monica and Richard broke up. The kiss in the opticians was 🔥

aConcernedPrude · 31/10/2021 18:01

I agree re Phoebe, she was poison at times, I don't get why she was so popular. My least favourite of the lot.

I'm not a huge Joey fan however I think he's the most loyal of the bunch. There's an awful flashback episode (Mac and Cheese possibly) where he and Chandler are reminiscing about how 'badly' they each treated each other on occasion but Joey's moments were just from stupidity on his part, Chandler on the other hand was a bit of a dick at times and actually a pretty shit friend (cheating with Cathy etc).

The episode with Phoebe's wedding, don't get me started. Monica acts appallingly and nobody pulls her up on it. Ok, Phoebe fires her but then does crawling back at the end (karma for being a bitch over the years, maybe Wink).

TLIMSISNW · 31/10/2021 18:02

Yes yes about Janice. She’s a sweetheart. An annoying one sure, but a sweetheart nonetheless.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/10/2021 18:05

I really disliked Emily, i read somewhere that the intention was that she and Ross end up together but Helen Baxendale decided to bale out of the series for whatever reason so was written out. Thank God if true.

DivorceAdvicePlease123 · 31/10/2021 18:07

Also a fun fact - Ellen DeGeneres turned down the role of Phoebe. Thank fuck for that!

Ross definately has so many of the funniest scenes. I rewatched when pregnant and I actually laughed at many bits.

The leather pants, the ran, pivot! Pivot!

I think she got pregnant IRL.
RachelHasThoseInBurgundy · 31/10/2021 18:11

Ross was the funniest character. His personality was unpleasant and quite controlling but DS as an actor portraying him was unrivalled.

Joanna was also a very funny minor character.

Pickles89 · 31/10/2021 18:11

I don't know why on earth they had Kathy cheat. Why not just have her leave to go on tour with her show? It could have been really sweet, she would have been heartbroken, but ultimately had to put career progression first. I mean she used to buy baby hamsters for medical experiments, so I'm thinking she'd be pretty desperate for her acting career to take off!

DivorceAdvicePlease123 · 31/10/2021 18:12

Or when he starts screaming in his new apartment when Rachel and Phoebe are trying to get him to look away from the window. Or when he says "I see so EVERYBODY wins" after Rachel wants the others to think they're having sex. Or the prom video with his big afro and moustache staring seductively into the camera. He's a brilliant character!

Tom Selleck is just DIVINE, so yes, with you there

Ross the character is an awful control freak creepy weirdo, but David Schwimmer plays him to perfection. And yes, he's often extremely funny

Very true about Rachel's clothes. And her hair really was fab

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 31/10/2021 18:12

No way was Richard 46 ! I'm 46 now ! Oh no !

LeaveYourHatOn · 31/10/2021 18:13

I'm rewatching it at the moment and have also been having lots of thoughts.
Ross is indeed very funny, and I agree, OP, he mellowed a lot. He's my favourite of the men. Joey is sweet and loyal but yes, very dim and not really going anywhere.
Chandler is amusing but there are so many issues there. I can imagine that would not be fun as he ages.

I really like Phoebe a lot more this time round! I hadn't appreciated how very much she did her own thing.
Rachel I loved then and I love now - she is my favourite out of all of them.
Monica is actually a bit of a shit character. She's got a lot of baggage (both her parents are crap to her), and those quirky tics are going to seem less quirky as she gets older I think (the combination of her and Chandler is going to make for some VERY screwed up kids).
Yes to Richard. She really missed out there, he'd have been so much better for her.

Pickles89 · 31/10/2021 18:14

@CinderFuckingRe11a

No he wasn't. He was a 'whole person who can drink' (21) years older than Monica, who was at least 26.

LeaveYourHatOn · 31/10/2021 18:15

Oh and YES to Janice - she was wonderful! Annoying laugh, yes, but actually very kind and thoughtful and funny.

KatharinaRosalie · 31/10/2021 18:15

Richard and Monica were meant to be together and she clearly settled for Chandler.

Ross is dreadful though, insecure whiny man-baby.

RachelHasThoseInBurgundy · 31/10/2021 18:16

Richard was lovely, but she made the right decision- children were a deal breaker for her. She’d never have been happy if she’d stayed with him and ended up childless but nursing her ageing husband. Plus Chandler was funny Grin

RoxOff · 31/10/2021 18:16

I loved Phoebe! She was the coolest and funniest character for me.

They’re all great comic actors, though.

Emily was dire. Such poor casting and her ‘zany British family’ weren’t funny at all.

Janice was lovely and Chandler would’ve been lucky to have her!

Pickles89 · 31/10/2021 18:16

I hated there was no mention whatsoever of Ben in the last series, like he was just evaporated after the baby came along. And Ross was ok with Emma being whisked away to Paris?

LeaveYourHatOn · 31/10/2021 18:17

I think it went slowly downhill from when Monica and Chandler decided to get married. It changed the dynamics too much, and I don't think I ever really believed their relationship was any more than both of them "settling".

RachelHasThoseInBurgundy · 31/10/2021 18:18

Joey and Rachel was the worst decision ever.

LeaveYourHatOn · 31/10/2021 18:18

Yy to Emily being dire - does ANYONE like her?
